Biographical Sketch:
Born March 1, 1807, and raised in Connecticut, Wilford Woodruff was a miller by trade. He joined the Church in 1833 and served two missions before being ordained an Apostle in 1839. As a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, he completed four additional missions, presided over the temple in St. George, Utah, and served six years as Church Historian. He was sustained as Church President on April 7, 1889. As President of the Church, he dedicated temples in Salt Lake City and Manti, Utah, oversaw the organization of the Genealogical Society, and reemphasized the value of historical record keeping. After much pondering and prayer, he received a revelation that the Latter-day Saints should cease the practice of plural marriage. In 1890, he wrote the Manifesto, testifying that the Church had ceased teaching the practice of plural marriage. In addition to being the Lord's mouthpiece for that revelation, President Woodruff also left a legacy that emphasized missionary and temple work. He died in San Francisco on September 2, 1898.

Holden - Craig Ernest Thompson, 55, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2010 with his parents, brothers and sisters by his side in Middlebury, Vermont. Craig was born on December 4, 1954 at Millinocket Regional Hospital and grew up in Medway the son of Byron E. and Melissa L. (Van Dine) Thompson.
Craig graduated Schenck High School with the Class of 1973. His professional career began in the East Millinocket Paper Mill moving on to Day & Curry, Seaward Construction , Par Electric and then Three Phase Line construction until May of this year where he worked as a General Foremen.
Craig was an avid New England Patriots, Boston Red Socks and Nascar Fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, and attending his daughter's sporting and musical events.
Craig is survived by his parents, Byron and Melissa Thompson of Upsala, Ontario, Canada, his daughter, Missy R. Thompson of Brewer, his sister Cynthia Sweeney, her husband, Michael of Bourne, Massachusetts, his brother, Darrell Thompson , his wife, Jeanne of Bradford, his sister, Gaye Beebe , her husband, Paul of Upsala, Ontario, Canada, his sister Julie Delaplain, her husband, Frank of Juneau, Alaska, his sister, Beth Dix of McAlester, Oklahoma, his brother, Malcolm Thompson, his wife, Julie of Shoreham, Vermont, his brother Calvin Thompson, his wife Rhonda, of Medway, and his brother, Ben Thompson, his wife Rebecca of Loudon, New Hampshire. Craig was the proud Uncle of dozens of nieces and nephews and countless cousins.
Family and friends may celebrate Craig's life at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Orchard Street, East Millinocket, on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial service celebrating Craig's life will be Saturday, October 30, at 1:00 PM also at Calvary Temple. Final interment will be at Grindstone Cemetery in Medway, Maine. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket.

Seth a woodsman farmer moved his family wherever he found work in
Maine; at Benton 1855, Etna 1858, Winslow 1860, Clinton 1863, Winslow ca
1868 and Mattawamkeag 1870, the last move obviously influenced by the
arrival of the European and North American RR, creating numerous
permanent jobs
for woodsmen and teamsters. The next two decades were relatively
prosperous. Maine Central RR acquired E & N A RR and shared tracks to
Vanceboro with Canadian Pacific who then built a main line from
Mattawamkeag via Brownville, Greenville and Jackman to Montreal, a direct
route from the Maritime Provinces.
In 1871 Exsah bought lot 121 on the east side of Webb Hill and
adjoining lot 101 in 1888. Seth built a house and barn on lot 101 and
farmed the property until his death. On 26 Sept 1894, Exsah sold the
homestead to Rose, second wife of Warren Wyman who farmed it until his
death. Exsah lived with her children or siblings, Lizzie Wyman at Benton
or James Thompson at Keyser, WV. In her last years her son Alfred located
her in a nursing home in Manchester New Hampshire.

Fred and Delia lived South Lincoln then moved to Mattawamkeag to a house
he had bought 9 Nov 1889 from Adele Heald; lot 18 on the east bank of the
Penobscot River. In 1891moved to Boston, Massachusetts as horse car
driver then conductor on West End Street Railway (Eastern Mass [Metro]
Transit). Lived at 43 E Windsor St. and102 Hammond St. South Boston.
Resigned 1895 to open a restaurant at 959 Tremont St d/b/a Wyman &
Parker. Christopher C. Parker boarded with them at 89 Camden St. South
Boston.
Employed at Manchester New Hampshire 1896 as motormanon Manchester
Electric Railway. Lived 1896-7 at 26 Adams St. (North End), 1898-9 at 387
Amherst St, 1900-1 Taylor St. near Holly Ave and 1902-4 at 227 Jewett St.
In 1904 railway strike, he lost his job. Construction foreman on
Manchester-Milford RR, cut timber from Joe English Mt. New Boston with
partnerMr. Hoyt.
In 1904 Delia inherited Woodbury Homestead, Lincoln, Maine. which he
farmed until 1914 then retired to Manchester. Had vegetable route then
market on Hanover St. Lived on Massabesic St, Mammoth Rd, Page St, South
WillowSt (Nutt Farm) and Auburn St. Bought portable saw mill and cut
lumber in Auburn New Hampshire for New England Box Co. 1919 moved to
Porter Maine. where he stabled 8 teams, cut lumber (2 mills) for N E Box
Co. at Parsonsfield and Porter. 1920 moved to Chesterfield, New
Hampshire. Turndown in lumber business idled his mills. Leased Eagle
Stable at Keene,New Hampshire and entered livery business. Lived at 318
Elm St, 22 Middle St, and 41 Elliot St. Keene. Lumbered at Chesterfield,
Gilsum, Harrisville and Marlow, New Hampshire. Electrified his mills at
Victoria St. Keene and Troy Road, Swanzey.
In mid-twenties when blight infected American Chestnut trees he bought
and cut all he could find in Cheshire County; sold utility poles to phone
and power companies and ties (small trees and culls) to RRs. Lucrative
enterprise until 1929 when the Great Depression found him with thousands
of unsaleable poles and ties on skids in the woods and at railroad
sidings.
1931 had a poultry farm at Gilsum, New Hampshire. 1932 moved to 683
Main St. Keene. 1935 bought a filling stationat 429 Winchester St. which
he operated until his death in 1938.

Moses Witham, musician, in Captain Chadwick's company, Colonel Learned's regiment, April 1813-1814. He was a fifer, and at his death, left his fife to his daughter, Mrs. Hiram Witham. He was at Stony Creek, June 6, 1813, and at Plattsburg, September 11, 1814.

Eleanor L. Wheaton Millinocket and Brookton - Eleanor L. Wheaton, 94, wife of the late Douglas P. Wheaton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Ross Manor in Bangor. She was born April 9, 1912 in Brookton, the daughter of Hawley W. and Ientha E. Thornton. Eleanor was a lifelong member of the Brookton Baptist Church and was very active in the work of the church. She worked many years at the Baskahegan Sporting Camps in Brookton for "Biscuit and Gertie" Bartlett, as well as the nursing home in Danforth with Martha Ripley. She worked at Living Waters Bible Camp at East Grand Lake and for 12 years boarded local school teachers in Brookton. Eleanor was also active in the Danforth Garden Club. After moving to Millinocket in 1986, Eleanor continued her devotion and faith through the First Congregational Church in Millinocket and was a member of Onawa Chapter #130, O.E.S. in Millinocket. She enjoyed getting out for the annual Thornton family reunion and local community events. She always looked forward to visiting with many dear friends. In addition to her parents and five siblings, Eleanor was also predeceased by a special daughter in law, Shirley A. Wheaton. She is survived by her son, Perley E. Wheaton of Millinocket; two grandchildren, Cheryl A. Collinsworth and her husband Michael of Millinocket, and Michael P. Wheaton and his wife Sharon of Hampden; five great grandchildren, Amy and Aaron Collinsworth, David Wheaton, all of Millinocket; Tyler and Michaela Wheaton of Hampden; three sisters in law, Hazel Davis of West Enfield, Mertie Walker of Bangor, Marilyn Wheaton Fitzpatrick of Norridgewock and Florida; a very dear and special friend, Marguerite Kimball of Millinocket; and many Thornton and Bubar family members from Lincoln and Millinocket. Eleanor spent many years caring for her family members. She will be greatly missed.

MILLINOCKET - Perley E. Wheaton, 76, passed away peacefully on Sept. 18, 2013, at home with his family after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 7, 1937, in Brookton, the son of Douglas and Eleanor (Thornton) Wheaton, both of whom are predeceased.Perley graduated from Lee Academy where he met his high school sweetheart, Shirley, who meant the world to him; they were married for over 35 years before her passing in 1999.He is survived by his two children; daughter, Cheryl Collinsworth and her husband, Michael; son, Michael Wheaton and his wife, Sharon, of Hampden; five grandchildren, Amy and Aaron Collinsworth, David, Tyler and Michaela Wheaton; dearest cousins, Ronald, Paul, and Philip Thornton; many special family members; as well as his best friend, Donat Busque; and all those who were part of the Millinocket Ford/Mercury family.Perley was a life member of the Elks, B.P.O.E. 1521, the Anah Temple, Provost Guard. Perley owned and operated the Millinocket Ford/Mercury car dealership before his retirement in 2000. He sold cars for over 40 years and is remembered by many from his 1980s radio jingle "There Ain't No Beatin' Perley Wheaton." Perley loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling. He was a big fan of Nascar, the Red Sox and Patriots, never missing a game if possible. Perley loved animals and had many over his lifetime. Most recently he shared his chair with two papillons, a chihuahua and a German shepherd.
