East Millinocket \endash Ora S. Lyons, 81, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2011 from a Millinocket hospital. He was born February 16, 1930 in East Millinocket, the son of Everette and Erma (Powers) Lyons.
Ora grew up in the area, and worked for Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket for 39 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, but was truly passionate about fishing, a pastime he enjoyed immensely. Ora will be remembered as a loving family man by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine (McLaughlin) Lyons of East Millinocket; two children, Donna Jean Soper and her husband David of Dedham, and Garold Lyons and his fiancé Patricia Madson of North Tonawanda, New York; five grandchildren, Aaron Lyons and his fiance Erin Salmen; Jason Lyons, Cody Lyons, Mia Ippoliti-Lenfest and her husband Ryan, and Joshua A. Soper; ten great grandchildren Alina Jean Lenfest, Trinity Lyons, Emma Lyons, Tyler Salmen, Neal Lyons, Gavin Lyons, Zane Lopez, Michael Kennedy, Lyric Palmer, and Mataya Spirit Gerdom; two nephews, Pete and Prince Lyons; a niece, Jean Moore; and several other extended relatives. In addition to his parents, Ora was predeceased by two brothers, Fay Lyons and his wife Florence, Ray Lyons and his wife Evelyn, and a sister, Pauline Beathem and her husband Harold.

Guillaume Pelletier was born in 1598 in <u>Bresolettes <http://gapellet.brinkster.net/bresol.htm></u>, Perche, France, the son of Eloi Pelletier and Françoise Matte (?Mare).
There are documents in the genealogy archives of the Paris National Library that indicate that the Pelletiers from Perche are probably descendants of Barthelémy Le Pelletier of Brittany. Barthelémy was given the Perche forest by the French King, Charles V, as a reward for his bravery in the battle of Thouars, in Poitou, August 7, 1372. (Louise Pelletier in <i>La Pelleterie</i>, Bulletin #25, Volume 11, No. 1, Winter 1997.)
Perche, an old French province (circled below), founded in 1115, is west of Paris and east of the coastal province of Normandy. Perche no longer exists as a province today - it is part of Lower Normandy. The ancient province of Perche was dismantled into four uneven parts in 1790, when the French Assembly divided France into "départements". Today, the province of Perche would correspond roughly to the eastern portion of the "département" of Orne, and the western portion of the "département" of Eure-et-Loire. Perche is still referred to as a region of France. Approximately 4% of the early Canadian settlers were from the Perche region. Recently, the author and his wife went to Tourouvre and Bresolettes.

Family Legand has it that Mr. Mabry was an abusive husbvand, who beat his young wife one time too many when one day she didn't have a hot meal on the table when he came home in the middle of the day. He may have well been a brilliant lawyer, young as he was, but he must have had a hot temper. The laws of the day didn't protect women against this kind of domestic abuse, and so, Mr. Lyon took the law into his own hands.

Young farm boy: “Sometimes, when my brother Joe and I got up in the morning, the chamber pot under our bed was frozen.” In the out house, what did we use? . . . [smile] well, the good old Sears Roebuck catalogue . . . and some pages were better than others.”
Farm Boy: “I was trying to make a little bit of money gathering fur but some one was breaking into my traps near the creek. One morning, I got up early, and I saw a man walking near one of my traps. I fired my shotgun in the air. . . I never saw the man again.”
Teen Age Farm Boy: [1928] “I was sitting next to my father on the farm truck, going into Waterman [a small town near DeKalb]. There were some people parading in Ku Klux Klan clothing. I asked my father who these people were. He said: ‘Oh, just some darn fools who don’t like Negroes, Jews and Catholics’. I thought for a minute and then said ‘Yeah, but Dad, there are no Negroes out here. And there are no Jews. And we’re the only Catholics!!!!”
