John was baptized April 19, 1676. There are no more records of him in
Massachusetts. Therefore we think he is the John Byington found in
Branford, CT as early as 1716. He went to CT and called his name
Byington, which is found in records October 16, 1710, progenitor of
family in CT who spell the name Byington or Boyington. (Boynton
Family, 1987)

John came to America with his brother, William. They embarked at Hull (Ki ngston Upon Hull), Humberside, England, in the autumn of 1638, and
arrived in Boston the same year. John was a "tailor" by trade, but also
tilled the "acre and a half of land" that he was assigned in 1640. THE
BOYNTON FAMILY A GENEALOGY OF THE DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM
AND JOHN BOYNTON compiled by JOHN FARNHAM BOYNTON and his
wife CAROLINE (HARRIMAN) BOYNTON 1897
Autumn of 1638 - Sailed on the "Humber"to Salem, MA with his brother Willi am. Founded Rowley, MA. and named it in honor of his minister, Exekiel Rog ers of Rowley, Yorkshire, England.
Taylor, farmer, teacher, and one of America's first bee keepers.
First clothmaker in New England.
John's will, dated 8 Feb 1670-1, mentioned his wife Ellen, children Josep h, Caleb, Hannah, Samuel, Sarah, John, and Mercy, and his brother Willia m. John Boynton, Jr. was made executor as he had taken care of his paren ts since coming of age. The will was proved 28 Mar 1671.[3/2:214]
The inventory of the estate, taken 27 Feb 1670-1, listed "a hive of bees a nd an ould saddle, 1 pound 5 s". Honey bees are not native to North Ameri ca but were most likely first brought to New England in the 1620's or 1630 's. In any event John Boynton would have been one of the earliest beekeepe rs in this country. The inventory also included animals and "Tooles as bel ongeth to husbandry".[3/2:214216] As did most of the early settlers, Jo hn fed his family by raising and tending his own crops and livestock. T he estate amounted to 233.13.00.[3/2:216]

Maude grew up in East Millinocket and was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1949, after which she married Arthur in 1951. In addition to her husband of 49 years and her parents, Maude was predeceased by her siblings, Lois Elwell, Keith Boynton, Lawrence "Red" Boynton, Ethel Noddin, Flora Scott, Reuben Boynton, Colleen Boytnon and John C. Boynton.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. There are no records of Peltiah Boynton until 1778 when he enlisted in
the military to fight in the Revolutionary War. He married Lydia
Blackledge in 1780. They had seven children. Following is the text
of the marriage of Peltiah to Lydia Blackledge. "August 22, 1780,
Peltiah Boynton m. Lydia Blackledge, both of Pownalboro." (Taken from
Wiscasset Town Records on 4/21/1999 by Roger Boyington) Shortly after
he married Lydia Blackledge, Peltiah moved to Mercer, ME, then a dense
wilderness, took up a farm and cleared the first land in town. After
a few years he moved back to Dresden where he remained until past
middle life, then he moved to Mercer again. (information obtained from

General Notes: Husband - William Boynton
William Boynton was born in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in
1606. He came to Rowley, Massachusetts with Rev. Ezekial Rogers in
the Autumn of 1638. He was assigned a lot on Bradford Street, to
which he subsequently added by purchase in various parts of the
county. He gave a farm to each of his children in his lifetime, and
the remainder of his estate to his wife, Elizabeth Jacksin, whom he
brought with him. In the records he was called a "planter" and
"weaver", but in the deeds he is called a tailor. He taught the
school from 1656 to 1681, and was probably the first person employed
as a schoolmaster in the town. ( compiled from "Boynton Family", by
J.F. and C.H. Boynton, 1897.)

General Notes: Child - Caleb Boynton Sr.
Caleb Boynton was born April 7, 1650. He married Mary, daughter of
Edmund and Ann Moore, of Newbury, June 24, 1672. She was born in
Newbury, November 30, 1648. He resided first in Newbury, then in
Ipswich until 1695, after which we have no further record of his
family in Massachusetts. Ipswich church records give his death in
1696. Circumstances indicate his son, Caleb, went from Ipswich along
the coast to York, ME, and thence to Wiscasset. ( information from
"Boynton Family", J.F. and C.H. Boynton, 1897)

General Notes: Child - Peltiah Boynton
(information obtained from

the military to fight inthe Revolutionary War. He married Lydia
Blackledge in 1780. They had seven children. Following is the text of
the marriage of Peltiah to Lydia Blackledge. 'August 22, 1780, Peltiah
Boynton m. Lydia Blackledge, both of Pownalboro.' (Taken from Wiscasset

Lydia Blackledge, Peltiah moved to Mercer, ME, then a dense wilderness,
took up a farm and cleared the first land in town. After a fewyears he
moved back to Dresden where he reMained until past middle life, then he
moved to Mercer again. (information obtained from Boynton Family, 1897)

General Notes: Child - William Boynton
