When the Wooley kids were little, we thought our mother was referring toAunt Anne as "Anne Anne" so that was her name to us for as long as shelived. My son asked what he should call her and I told him he shouldcall her "Anne Anne Anne" because she was his Great Aunt but he decided,instead, to call her "Triple Anne" which amused her greatly. She lovedchildren and a good time was always had at her house. She loved to playcards and taught us many different card games throughout her life.Canasta and SCAT were my favorites.

CULHANE, Anne W.
Sept 14, 1996. Survived by her husband, Maurice; son, Patrick (Maura);daughter, Sheila and Laura Culhane; grandchildren, Miegan and Patrick II;sister, Margaret McMicking. Anne was a foster mother for 26 childrenduring a period of 38 years. She was past president of the Rosary Guildat Sacred Heart Cathedral and secretary to the coordinator of the CCDProgram and was active in several community organizations.
Friends may call Monday 2 - 4, 7 - 9PM at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 1511Dewey Ave. (one block north of Ridgeway Ave.)

MEDWAY - Josephine York, 82, went home to be with the Lord, April 8, 2004, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in East Millinocket, the daughter of William and Mary (Bushey) Burby. She was a member of the Calvary Temple for more than 40 years where she was secretary and treasurer for about eight years, and was active in the Sunday School and the W.M.'s. She is survived by her husband, Guy York Sr. of Medway; four children, Guy E. York Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Rialto, Calif., Thurza Frost and her husband, Donald, of Spring Hill, Fla., Elizabeth Montgomery and her husband, Victor, of Newport Beach, Calif., and Stephen York and his wife, Laurie, of East Millinocket; one sister, Maude Peterson of China; one brother, Frank Albert Burby of High Point, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Calvary Temple-Assembly of God, 2 Orchard St., East Millinocket. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Temple with the Rev. Regginal Adams and the Rev. Mark Pilletere officiating. Interment will be in Grindstone Road Cemetery. MEDWAY - Josephine York, 82, went home to be with the Lord, April 8, 2004, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in East Millinocket, the daughter of William and Mary (Bushey) Burby. She was a member of the Calvary Temple for more than 40 years where she was secretary and treasurer for about eight years, and was active in the Sunday School and the W.M.'s. She is survived by her husband, Guy York Sr. of Medway; four children, Guy E. York Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Rialto, Calif., Thurza Frost and her husband, Donald, of Spring Hill, Fla., Elizabeth Montgomery and her husband, Victor, of Newport Beach, Calif., and Stephen York and his wife, Laurie, of East Millinocket; one sister, Maude Peterson of China; one brother, Frank Albert Burby of High Point, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In some areas of Germany it was often the custom to give
repetitive first names to each child. Christening records would list names such as; Johannes Michael,
Johannes Andres, Johannes Leonard and Johannes Jacob. By the time the children were confirmed children were confirmed or married, however, they would go by their middle name.Many records will include the full double names, while others drop the first (or repetitive) name. Also,official records
would sometimes distiguish or indentify the person further by adding; son of Jacob, John, or Samuel, etc. This custom has been observed in some records encountered with this Jacob Burket.
John Jacob Burket was 8 months old when his parents, Johan Dedrick Burcket and Polly (Kountz) emigrated to the colonies. They arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Loyal Judith, which sailed from Rotterdam and Deal with Lovel Paynter as commander. Arrival date in the Colnies was November 25, 1740. On January 7, 1763, Jacob Burket married Barbara Fisher in Christ's Church in Philadelphia,

The Comptroller General at the Division of Records show Jacob Burket was enrolled as a Private Eighth Class with Capt. Davis' Company Tenth Battalion, Olancaster County Militia. According to the evidence of a Battalion Return dated 1777. Authority: Military Accounts (Militia) Residence ascribed; Brecknock-Carnavon Township, as recorded and sealed thereon stamped by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Harrisburg. (PA Archives, 6th Series, Vol III pg. 24, 51, 5, 593, and 797, B. 974.8 - Also, Miscellaneous Rolls of Association and Militia, pg. 666)
A Warrant for 100 acres of land was granted to Jacob Burget by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in February 1786. (No. 193 (B) Bedford County, On the 1790 Census, Bedford Co., PA, Jacob Burket is shown with 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16, and 1 female. (Microcopy T. 498-Roll #3)
Jacob Burket died intestate January 31, 1834 in Greenfield Twp.; Bedford County, PA.
He is buried on the 625 acre plot of land, part of that which he received in a land patent dated February 9, 1786 (Orphan's Court, Bedford Co., PA Docket 5, page 112.)
A descendant of Jacob Burket, Sr. described his burial place thusly: The Burket Cemetery is in a little patch of woods on the top of a hill su rrounded by open farm fields. It was an old custom to have a cemetery atop a hill and bury the person under a shade tree. The reason being they could rest in peace under a shade tree and look over their domain. The Burkett Cemetery is situatedted exac tly this way. Standing at the cemetery or on the porch of the house that is the re today, the house is built across the from from where the original log house stood which was even with the cemetery about 300 feet away. One can lookacross the road and see for about a mile or so. Chester Croyle says," the Burkets owned all this as he raised his hand and pointed across the open fields across the road to the south." Chester Croyle's grandfather was Jacob Burket, son of Julian (Weyant) and Jacob Burket, Jr. The Croyles claim to be in possession of the original land patent."
