Viscount Montgomerie created in Ireland in 1622, MARRIAGE: Page 140 of the book, Origin and History of the Montgomerys, by B.G. de Montgomery states: In 1587 Montgomery married Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Shaw, Laird of Sauchie...the families of Montgomery and Shaw were united by many bonds. BIOGRAPHY: From pages 140-143, Origin and History of the Montgomerys, by B.G. de Montgomery: Hugh, first Viscount of Great Ardes (1560-1636), was educated at Glasgow College. To complete his education, he went to France and stayed for some time at the French court. He afterwards repaired to Holland. Like his father, he joined a Dutch regiment and got a commission as a captain...After his father's death Montgomery returned to Scotland...Montgomery was able to keep the King informed about the attitude of the English nobility and gentry towards his claim to the English throne. This source of information was of great value to the King, who later on liberally rewarded Montgomery for his services. He was knighted in 1605, and...he and his sons Hugh and James were naturalized in England. On 3rd May 1622 he was raised to the peerage and created Viscount Montgomery of Great Ardes. This was not a distinction conferred upon a court favorite but the reward of valuable services...Montgomery had acquired large estates in Northern Ireland and was the leader of the plantation of that country at the beginning of the seventeenth century...Montgomery's acquisition of big domains in Ulster had taken place with the King's consent...Thus the country where Montgomery had settled was unhappy and devastated, but he laid balm upon the wounds and in a few years he had founded economically sound industries and turned large portions of Ulster into prosperous country...Montgomery used his enormous income for building and restoring churches and houses. DEATH: When he died in 1636 there was national mourning in Ulster and his funeral was celebrated with almost royal splendor. The peers of Scotland were represented on this occasion, and the Ulster King of Arms carried his sword and armorial shield.

Capt. Clement Moody was a great-great-grandson of The Immigrant, John Scriven.
He served in the Massabesick (Waterborough, Maine) Militia in the Revolutionary War.
In making reference to Clement's wife, Mary, the CENTER CEMETERY RECORD BOOK (Stowe Town Clerk) says "Clem's wife." The record of her death also states "probably the wife of Capt. Moody."
"A search of the records in the Registry of deeds at Alfred reveals that Clement Moody of Stow, then in the County of Chittenden, [now County of Lamoille] Vt., found his way into town and being satisfied that there was an opportunity for a 'living' purchased from James Barnes December 28, 1795, from John Wheelwright April 28, 1801 and from John Smith February 13, 1802 tracts of land which, included this pond, and contained more than 300 acres. The record of these conveyances is found in Volume 68 at Pages 194, 195 and 196.
This John Smith was the first settler in town.
That Clement Moody had a large family is indicated by the abundance of stone walls that yet remain and the record of vital statistics which show:

CLEMENT'S PARENTS: Clement, Sr. was born before 1672 (possibly 1661) in Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts (Anderson, 223), and died 21 April 1729 in Exeter (Metcalf, PROBATE RECORDS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, 2 [op. cit.], 362). Sarah was born 14 December 1668 in Wenham, and died in Exeter about 1711, sometime following the birth of their seventh child, David, who was born about 1710 (Marlene A. Hickley [comp.], DESCENDANTS OF JOHN CLARKE OF WENHAM, MASSACHUSETTS AND EXETER, NEW HAMPSHIRE [Bath, ME: The author, 1968], 2, 3). Clement and Sarah were married before 1693 in Exeter (Anderson, 223). They were also the parents of Josiah Moody, who married Elizabeth's sister, Sarah (see their article below, 9). Following Sarah's death, Clement re-married, taking for his second wife a lady named Alice, who outlived him.
General Notes: Child - Samuel Moody
Samuel was a private in the Massachusetts forces during the Revolutionary War.
In an upcoming book, EARLY FAMILIES OF ALFRED, MAINE, author and genealogist Fred R. Boyle presents information, based on some recently found documents, that "Samuel Moody purchased land in Industry from the Proprietors of the Plymouth Purchase, 31 May 1804, and withe wife Hannah, both of Lewiston, sold the land 23 June 1804." Boyle surmises that perhaps they were getting ready to move to New York State with their son, Joseph.
General Notes: Child - Scribner Moody
There are two equally compelling arguments for the parentage and dates for Scribner's wife, Sarah. The first comes from Sandra Ellis' article, "Scribner Moody," in MAINE FAMILIES IN 1790, Volume 4 [op. cit.] and The New Hampshire Genealogical Record [NHGR] Volumes 3 and 5 [op. cit.]. According to Ellis, Sarah's parents were William and Sarah (Bean) Smith, and that Scribner and Sarah were married before 9 December 1762 (page 188). Volume 3 of NHGR informs us that Sarah's parents were married at Kingston, New Hampshire 8 February 1738/39 (page 40). Volume 5 of NHGR tells that she was baptized at Kingston 28 June 1744 (page 111).
The second argument comes from Bernie MacBean's THE CLAN MACBEAN IN NORTH AMERICA, Volume 3 (where information provided by Patricia Caswell of Olathe, Colorado, is quoted on page 550), and Kathleen Hosier's book, KINGSTON NEW HAMPSHIRE EARLY FAMILIES, PATRIOTS & SOLDIERS [op. cit.], pages 8-10. Hosier's book refers often to official records of Kingston and New Hampshire. According to both books, Sarah's parents were Joseph and Hannah (Davis) Bean, Sarah was born 19 April 1740, and married first William Smith (although Hosier's book shows only his last name). Then,according to Caswell's information, Sarah married Scribner 12 September 1762.
In this present document, we are favoring the first argument.

Me., May 22, 1795; m., 1817, Dudley Moody, b. in Monmouth, Me., Oct. 26,
1789, son of Rev. Gilman Moody, of Gilmanton, N. H.
The parents of Dudley Moody saw their eleven children grow up to become
useful members of society.
He lived at Kent's Hill, Readfield, Me., He died there, Oct. 2, 1865,
aged 76. His wife Mary, who was eminent for unobtrusive piety and great
amiableness, died at Kent's Hill, Readfield, May 16, 1862, aged 67.

LUCY AYER RICHARDSON, eldest offspring of Deacon Thomas and Mary (Ayer)
Richardson, of Monmouth, Me.: b. in Standish, Me., March 28, 1806; m.
1830, Rufus Moody, b. in Monmouth, Feb. 24, 1805, son of David and Joanna
(Fairbanks) Moody, of that place.
They settled in Monmouth, near the residence of her father. In July,
1874, Mr. Alfred Poor, at my request, called on her an obtained a great
amount of information relative to the numerous descendants of her
grandfather David Richardson, who, in 1778 removed from Newton Mass., his
native place, to Standish, Me. The account she gave corresponded
remarkably with those obtained from other sources.
