Samuel was a private in the Massachusetts forces during the Revolutionary War.
In an upcoming book, EARLY FAMILIES OF ALFRED, MAINE, author and genealogist Fred R. Boyle presents information, based on some recently found documents, that "Samuel Moody purchased land in Industry from the Proprietors of the Plymouth Purchase, 31 May 1804, and withe wife Hannah, both of Lewiston, sold the land 23 June 1804." Boyle surmises that perhaps they were getting ready to move to New York State with their son, Joseph.

AKA: "Long Daniel" Scribner Born: October 18, 1802 - Otisfield, Cumberland, ME 14 Baptized: Died: June 10, 1889 - Otisfield, Cumberland, ME 12 Buried:
General Notes: Husband - Edward Scribner Jr.
Edward was a farmer. He died when he was thrown from a horse.
General Notes: Child - Joseph Scribner
Joseph was a farmer in Otisfield.
General Notes: Child - Clement Scribner
Clement was a farmer in Harrison.
General Notes: Child - Daniel L. Scribner
Daniel was known as "Long Daniel" because he was a tall, slim man. He was a farmer in Otisfield and, at one time, a partner with his brother, Joseph, in a mill at East Otisfield (It burned in December 1901). He lived in Portland for several years, operating a hotel. Then, he moved on to Boston for a year or two before returning to Maine and Harrison where he lived for 15 years. He then moved back to Otisfield for a few years, then he moved to Bolster's Mills. Daniel is also remembered as being one of the old time fifers who played for the musters and other gatherings.
For a few years in the late 1800's, Daniel wrote an occasional newspaper column for the "Oxford County Advertiser" in which he told of his recollections of persons and events in Otisfield during the 19th century. For example, one article, "Recollections of an Old Man in His Eighty-first Year," in the 7 September 1883 edition, told about early wagons and carriages in Otisfield.
In the article he wrote for the 1 February 1884 edition, he states "I was born in Otisfield in the second year of the present century." Three years later, in the 3 June 1887 edition, he states "I was born 18 October 1802."

There are two equally compelling arguments for the parentage and dates for Scribner's wife, Sarah. The first comes from Sandra Ellis' article, "Scribner Moody," in MAINE FAMILIES IN 1790, Volume 4 [op. cit.] and The New Hampshire Genealogical Record [NHGR] Volumes 3 and 5 [op. cit.]. According to Ellis, Sarah's parents were William and Sarah (Bean) Smith, and that Scribner and Sarah were married before 9 December 1762 (page 188). Volume 3 of NHGR informs us that Sarah's parents were married at Kingston, New Hampshire 8 February 1738/39 (page 40). Volume 5 of NHGR tells that she was baptized at Kingston 28 June 1744 (page 111).
The second argument comes from Bernie MacBean's THE CLAN MACBEAN IN NORTH AMERICA, Volume 3 (where information provided by Patricia Caswell of Olathe, Colorado, is quoted on page 550), and Kathleen Hosier's book, KINGSTON NEW HAMPSHIRE EARLY FAMILIES, PATRIOTS & SOLDIERS [op. cit.], pages 8-10. Hosier's book refers often to official records of Kingston and New Hampshire. According to both books, Sarah's parents were Joseph and Hannah (Davis) Bean, Sarah was born 19 April 1740, and married first William Smith (although Hosier's book shows only his last name). Then, according to Caswell's information, Sarah married Scribner 12 September 1762.
In this present document, we are favoring the first argument.

RESIDENCE:
1886: rem to Littleton, NH [LTH]
OCCUPATION: 1896: laborer [LTH]
BIRTH:
[LTH] compiled about the time of his marriage & revised 10 years later, says he was born in "New Ireland, PQ"; which no longer seems to appear on any map.
However, according to Rootsweb placenames dataBase, New Ireland was another name for New Erin which, until 1905, HAD a railway station on the New York Central (Conrail) Railway line where it crosses Chemin New Erin, aka Rte 202, at 45.14N/74.15W (5 miles north of Huntingdon, PQ and 20 miles SW of Maple Grove).
(Littleton, NH Town Report mr gives his PO as "Maple Grove, PQ" which is on south shore of river across from the upsteam tip of Montreal, at the intersection of Routes 205, 236, & 132).
Aerial photographs show only a very few houses clustered at that location in 1995.

Born: Baptized: Died: Buried:Spouse: Bernard Ward Marr: April 7, 1861 - Rec'd Burlington, VT
General Notes: Child - Margaret Mooney
RESIDENCE:

MARRIAGE:
VVR gives her marriage to Bernard Ward as 1st; but, gives her parents' names as Francis and Elizabeth Powers. Also, her then 4-yr old dau "Mary Mooney" d. the following year, and the VVRdr gives her parents as "Barney and Margaret Ward". Thus, we are force to surmise that either this was her second marriage, or "Powers" is NOT her father's surname; but, her mother's maiden name - It is THIS hypothesis that I am following here.

LAND OWNERSHIP:
Involved with "Patrick C Mooney of Danville" in 1843 land deals concerning 57 acre "Lot 24 in part of Danville called, Walden Gore" [Dan.Land.Recs(11:174)].
This same lot of land was bought by "Joel Mooney of Danville" March 19, 1839 from John Bachelder and quit claimed back to him Nov. 18, 1840 [Dan.Land.Recs(10:170,175,383)].
However, on Nov. 5, 1840 "Patrick Mooney Jr of Hartland, Windsor Co" had bought this same lot 24 from [his neighbor per 1840 census] Joel Sanborn [Dan.Land.Recs(10:372-3)].
This Lot 24 was finally sold out of the Mooney name (no one of the name has owned land in the town since) by "Patrick C Mooney of Hartland, Windsor Co" April 29, 1848 to Willard K Langmaid [Dan.Land.Recs(12:56)].
NOTE: there are no Vital Records or Census Records for Mooney in Hartland, Windsor Co, Vt.
It is also unknown at this time whether or not "Patrick C" and "Patrick Jr" are the same person, or father and son; nor, whether husband or son of Bridget C (Maloney) Mooney.

[Turner, Prettyman, York Family tree.FTW]
BROWN GENEALOGY, Vol I, by Cyrus Henry Brown, Boston, The Everett Press Company, 1907, page 198.
He was born in the old house on the hill, but in his early infancy the family removed to the home nearer Beaver Creek. He was educated at the Waterman Schoolhouse, the Brookfield Academy, and Cazenovia Seminary; graduated from Union College, under the presidency of President Eliphalet Nott; joined the Methodist Episcopal Church when about eleven years of age, and during his early college years, by authority of his home church in Brookfield, entered the local ministry. In 1854, with his brother Sidney, he established the Valley Female Institute, in Winchester, Va. He was Professor of Mathematics, Latin, and German. He closed his connection with the institute in 1858 and joined the Oneida Conference. Before he joined the Oneida Conference he married 2nd Kezia Lichtenthaler.
At the close of his pastorate at Manlius, Mr. York married 3rd Caroline Moore.
In 1882 he went to Nebraska and California. From 1883 to 1886 he spent most of his time in Nebraska. His subsequent years were mostly spent in Brookfield, temporarily supplying the pulpits of the Baptist churches of Brookfield and No. Brookfield, with more or less pulpit service in the Methodist Church in Brookfield. In 1891-1892, under the direction of the Waterman School Association, he prepared a "history of the Waterman School District; Its Schools and Its Peoples," a typewritten volume of two hundered pages for the school district. In 1892 he commenced the preparation of a "History of the York Family in America." This was a typewritten volume illustrated with maps, plans and photographs. An abridgement of this volume prepared for his son has been placed at the disposal of the compilers of this work, and from it has been drawn most of the information relating to the York family.
