John Getchell's wife, Sarah had some Cherokee blood in her. She was verygood with the sick and travelled over the valley on horseback to wherevershe was needed. She died of consumption in Ohio at the age of 71. Asyet I have not been able to trace her ancestors.
John and Sarah first went to Ross Co., Ohio from Brunswick, CumberlandCo., Maine with the Isaac Van Tassel Marmee Indians Mission Emigrantsin1822. He was one of the first to settle in the N.W. section of theBallville Township. Two years later, he located on the Sandusky Riverand the 15 July 1827 was given a deed to (Inlet Number 50 in the newsurvey) in the Reservation of two miles square at the foot of the rapidsof the Sandusky River on the east side thereof and in the county ofSandusky.
From Deed Book of Sandusky Co. E. pg. 33: Part of his land was conveyedby patent to James Monroe, later President of the United States. Thisland was located on the main highway from Lake Erie to the WesternReserve.
John Getchell built a large two story home with a wing on each side.Here he had an Inn and a dance hall. The main house was still standingand in splendid preservation in 1946. The present owners have a roadsidefruit stand.
John Getchell Rideout's lineage traces back to Nicholas Rideout (whomarried Mary Ingersoll). They lived at Falmouth, Portland, Maine. Hewas a man of very sturdy qualities which have been inherited by a longline of descendants.
John Getchell and his 2nd wife, Mary Jane Kellogg had no children found.Mary applied for a pension on his War of 1812 military service record,but was refused. She claimed he served in Capt. Henry Getchell's Co. ofmilitia. He enlisted in Lisbon, Maine. He came to Chillicothe, Ohiowith the Van Tassel Co. to the Indian Missionary Post on the Maumee wherehe engaged in farming. He was one of the first settlers in the northpart of Ballville township. He was a shoemaker and followed his trade atthe Indian Mission.

BOOK - RIDEOUTS IN AMERICA
David Oliver, was of a wondering nature. He hunted the hills for miningprospects and would be gone for weeks. His parents owned a large farmjust two miles from Fremont. He was a fine looking young man. He wasvery popular with the young people. He loved to dance and played thefiddle and accordian very well. He became very excited at the gold rushin California, and urged his brothers and brothers-in-law to make thetrip to the gold fields. So they took three ox teams and wagons loadedwith provisions, tools and trinkets to trade with the Indians. They madethe trip to Salt Lake in safety but when arriving there, their wagonswere badly in need of repair and their oxen surely needed a rest, so theydecided to rest in Salt Lake.
While resting there, David decided to attend the Mormon Church meetings,much to the disgust of his brothers. In time, he told them he had beenbaptized. The brothers turned back, but David stayed in Utah and finallymarried Ann Blows Gilby, who had lost her husband (Mathew Gilby) and fivechildren with cholera in St. Louis. Ann and her small son Mathew walkedacross the plains. She met David Rideout and they were married. Theywould buy small farms and the eggs and butter kept the wolf from thedoor. He located the large coal fields in Carbon Co., but not having themoney to develop them he sold them to a large mining Company for $300.00.
When Draper, Utah was settled the Rideout family was sent there to hlepcolonize it.

SEBREE Studies Page 150; [Probate Office Records, Hartford, CT, will and inventory, estate of David Sage, Jr. 1703]; [R56]; [R64, p.14]. Dr. Field, author of an 1819 work on the statistics of Middlesex Co, CT, who said that David Sage and Thomas Wetmore, among the first settlers, came from Wales. [R64, p.8].
HISTORY:
David SAGE, described as the first of that name to come to America. Astone erected to his memory, still standing in 1878, was in the Riverside cemetery on the bank of the Connecticut river, at the north end of Main Street, Middletown City. His will was signed 27 Mar 1703 and admitted to probate 4 May 1703.
Age 16, 1st Thursday in Dec, A.D. 1655. court case. June 1660 - he was received into the church. 22 FEb 1662 - he was formally recognized as an inhabitant of Middletown, Middlesex Co., CT. 30 May 1663 - with similar grants to other pioneers he received "...a house lot on the other side of the rivulet, on the west side of the highway to Hartford." The area, formerly called Middletown Upper Houses, is now part of the town of Cromwell.
CONFLICT: Marriage (2) is given as Mary Wiley daughter of John Wiley and Elizabeth Clough [R56, p.133]; and also found as (2) Mary Willcox, daughter of John Wilcox. [R64, p.14]. Three marriages are listed until this is resolved.
David owned nearly 800 a. of land when he died; part of his homestead on Pleasant street was occupied as of c1978 by a bank in Cromwell.
Ormsbee's data on the children of David SAGE vary somewhat from those of Elisha Sage's, but being more recent and in greater detail, are preferred when there ar undocumented differences.
Found David Sage with LDS Ordinances as follows: baptised 28 Feb 1922, endowed 1 Mar 1922 and seal to spouse 17 June 1943 Salt Lake Temple.
David Sage and Mary Wilcox were found with five children with b e sp all done.

Could he have married both Elizabeth Kirby and Mary Wilcox in Feb of 1664?

Jedediah, brother of Andrew, enlisted as a private in 1777 for three years service. He was assigned to Captain Burbank's Company, Brewer's Regiment. Jedediah was killed at the Battle of Monmouth, one of 69 Americans lost and 160 wounded.
A record of the services of the commissioned officers and enlisted men of Kittery and Eliot, Maine; who served their country on land and sea in the American Revolution, from 1775 to 1783.
WITHAM, JEDEDIAH, Private
Enlisted, July 1, 1776, and served as a private ain Capt. William Stilson's company of Col. Isaac Wyman's regiment of New Hampshire State Troops. Service in the Northern army arounf Lake Champlain. Enlisted, March 1, 1777, for three years or the war, for the town and a resident; served as a private in Capt. S. Burbank's company of the Twelfth Massachusetts Continental Infantry; with his company at Valley Forge, Jan 23, 1778. Killed at the battle of Monmouth, NJ, June 28, 1778.
Married Hannah Davis of Kittery, about June 1777, by whom he had a son, who has descendants living in the town. His widow, Hannah, married twiceagain, and in 1840 was a widow, living at Eliot, ME, aged eighty-six, a pensioner, when she applied for the State bounty.
"The regiments remained at Valley Forge, watching the British army at Philadelphia, until June 19, 1778, when they crossed the Schuylkill River, following the British army, and took part in the battle of onmouth, NJ, on June 28; lost several men killed by the enemy, among whom was Jedediah Witham of the town, in thw Twelfth Massachusetts Continental Infantry."

..."In the Roll of Grade-Jaegar Regiment, 2nd Battalion 3rd company (Hann. 48 a I Nr. 741) we find the following statement about Johann Dietrich Rasche: born 1801 in Stelle, District Ehrenburg, Lottery Year 1822, Lottery Number 14, enlisted May 1, 1822 to Military Service for four years, sworn in at Dieopholz, heigh: 5 ft 8 in. Hair: blond, face round, eyes blue, nose: ordinary, stature: staid, father Johann Dietrich Rasche, Vollhofner* religion: Lutheran, profession: carpenter, because of the end of military service he was discharged on April 30, 1826.
...April 30, 1826 he was discharged from military service. His discharge paper indicated that he served "...bravely and honest..." that his behavior was good and that he was able to re-enlist at anytime as "assistant" but stated that he was not able to serve with the light infantry (no reson given)
...September 6, 1831, his birth certificate was dated and signed by the pastor Jon Hackman. This might indicate Johann's early preparation for his trip to America.
