In her will, she left eachof her children 23 pounds. She freed three Negro slaves, Phebie and her two children Jonathan and Jerrusha. She gave each of the slaves 10 poungs and their clothing, bed and bedding, and left her gun to Jonathan. In her will, she left each of her children 23 pounds.
According to a petition brought in her behalf by James Convers, 26 Feb 1695/6, to the General Court of MA, Elizabeth Stover lost her husband in about 1688. She maintained her "fort" (fortified house) at Cape Neddick [ME] about 2 years, but in the year 1691, her sons having moved awayand her neighbors also, she "was forced to quit the [then] best fort in the Eastern parts which was within one week seized by the Enemy; her houses one of stone and the other of wood within the walls burnt . . . " She apparently removedto Scituate, MA about this time, for she was living there when she made her will in 1714.

I ELIZABETH STOVER of SCITTUATE in the Co of Plymouth in the Provice of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, Spinster; Being of weak body but of sound memory; calling to mind my mortality, & the uncertainty of my Life, I do make & ordain this m y Last Will and Testament In manner & form following, hereby revoking & making null & void all former Will Oregon Wills by me made either by word Oregon writing, ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.

History of Industry
Mr. Norton came to Industry about 1795, and settled on the northern part of lot No. 21, on the Lowell Strip. Here he cleared land and built a log house for his family; this he afterwards replaced by a substantial framed one. He eventually surrendered the care of the farm to his son Jabez

History of Industry
He came to the District of Maine in company with Daniel Collins, and settled on the Gore. His first wife was Mary Claghorn; his second wife, Mrs. Hannah (Claghorn) Bartlett, a sister of his first wife. He was a man of considerable property, and made a good farm on his section of the Gore. After spending a few years in his log house, he built a commodious two story framed one. This house was afterwards so much damaged by lightning that it became necessary to cut it down to a one story edifice. Mr. Norton's was probably the first frame house erected on the Gore. He was a weaver by trade, and sometimes wove for his neighbors when he became to infirm to till his farm. He was a member of the Methodist Church and scholl committee in New Vineyard in 1803. During his declining years he was kindly cared for by his son-in-law, Zebulon Manter.
General Notes: Child - Peter Norton
History of Farmington
Peter Norton, from Edgartown, Mass., made the first beginning on the farm now owned by Joseph Titcomb, on the Industry Road - in 1791. He put up a log house and moved into it in the fall of that year - his being the first family on that road. His wife, whose maiden name was Betsey Beetle, died the winter following. He soon after settled in New Portland, where he died.

In her will, she left eachof her children 23 pounds. She freed three Negro slaves, Phebie and her two children Jonathan and Jerrusha. She gave each of the slaves 10 poungs and their clothing, bed and bedding, and left her gun to Jonathan. In her will, she left each of her children 23 pounds.
According to a petition brought in her behalf by James Convers, 26 Feb 1695/6, to the General Court of MA, Elizabeth Stover lost her husband in about 1688. She maintained her "fort" (fortified house) at Cape Neddick [ME] about 2 years, but in the year 1691, her sons having moved awayand her neighbors also, she "was forced to quit the [then] best fort in the Eastern parts which was within one week seized by the Enemy; her houses one of stone and the other of wood within the walls burnt . . . " She apparently removedto Scituate, MA about this time, for she was living there when she made her will in 1714.

"IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. The Seventh day of December in the first year of the reignof our Sovereign Lord, George, by the grace of God of Great Brittan, France, and Ireland, Defender of the faith & c. Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and f ourteen;
I ELIZABETH STOVER of SCITTUATE in the Co of Plymouth in the Provice of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, Spinster; Being of weak body but of sound memory; calling to mind my mortality, & the uncertainty of my Life, I do make & ordain this m y Last Will and Testament In manner & form following, hereby revoking & making null & void all former Will Oregon Wills by me made either by word Oregon writing, ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.

From "The History of Martha's Vineyard. This ancestror from the second branch of the family was one of the leading citizens of the vineyard and it's first representative to the General Court of Massachusetts in 1692. He was Sheriff of the county in 1699 and was commissioned as Justice of the Court of Common Pleas in 1702. He resided at Major's Cove near Miobers Bridge where he lived until his death, 30 Jan 1742. His will 28 May 1741 was probated 19 Oct 1742.

History of Farmington
Peter Norton, from Edgartown, Mass., made the first beginning on the farm now owned by Joseph Titcomb, on the Industry Road - in 1791. He put up a log house and moved into it in the fall of that year - his being the first family on that road. His wife, whose maiden name was Betsey Beetle, died the winter following. He soon after settled in New Portland, where he died.

The Normans were VIKINGS, or Norse, who settled in western France in the 9th and early 10th centuries. In 911, the weak French monarchy under the Carolingian CHARLES III (The Simple), granted the lands at the estuary of the Seine River to Rollo, known as Rolf the Ganger"(860? to 931?), a Norwegian Viking, and his Danish followers in return for an alliance against other Vikings, thus laying the foundation for the duchy of NORMANDY.
Rollo was a Viking who raided the coast of France each year (c.890-910) until Charles III gave him his daughter, Gisella, in marriage and all the land that became Normandie. Hence Rollo was the first Duke of Normandie.
Rollo had been outlawed by Harald Fairhair and this forced him to settle in Normandie.
Rollo, the Viking, was granted land in Northwestern France in 911 AD by Charles the Simple, King of France. Charles hoped that Rollo would defend his new land, barring the length of the Seine River to other Viking groups. Rollo remained faithful to Charles and he and his son quickly expanded the original land grant at the expense of neighboring French lords and guarded it well against Viking rivals. Even before Rollo's grandson, Richard, took over the domain in 942, the descendants of the Vikings had accepted Christianity, intermarried with the local population and adopted the French language. Already they were being called Normans, a contraction of Northmen, and there territory became known as Normandie.
