He was still in town for the 1890 census/veteran schedule, but was afterwards in Shapleigh by 1900. He worked as a farm laborer in Limerick.
The 1900 census data gives Jane three children, all still living at the time. The Libby book only lists the latter two.

Daniel was born the second son and the first born white male child in Porter, Oxford, Maine (at the time called Porterfield) to Stephen and Mary (Knowles) Libby. Daniel's father Stephen came with his eldest brother Meshach to the land now known as Porter, Maine in Oxford County. Daniel's grandfather John Libby followed his two sons Stephen & Meshach to this land by 1790. Daniel clearly grew in to a special man give all the wonderful notes found written about Daniel. His father Stephen notes in his journal that Daniel is the one son he truly admires as a man. His pride over pours as he states Daniel to be a man every father prays for. In other records, Daniel is described as a kind, caring, loving man, a man of great work ethic which was highly valued at this time and era! Upon his young death his widow, Mary states that she will never re-marry, that Daniel was her soul mate, and that to find another man to equal Daniel would never happen. True to her words she never re-marries! Sadly the very work ethic that Daniel was valued for by most was likely his killer. Daniel was falling timber on his land the day is died. It is noted that it was abnormally warm day, Daniel fell suddenly with fever and rapidly fell into a coma and died that afternoon. It is noted by the doctor that Daniel most likely died of work exhaustion; today we most likely would call is Heat Stroke. Daniel was only 32 yrs old. During Daniel life he married his soul mate Mary Rundlett on 19 Mar 1809 in Porter, Maine. Build a wonderful large farm and home for his new bride and new upcoming family; for which they had four children prior to Daniel's death. Daniel operated his father's family Saw Mill quite successfully according to many, including his father. Daniel and Mary's children were: 1. Levi Smith Chapman Libby (1810-1886) 2. Mahala Libby (1811-1837) 3. Phebe Rundlett Libby (1813-1881) 4. Joshua Rundlett Libby (1815-1878) Out of the children Levi spoke of his father most, being the eldest child of age ten when his father passed he remembered him best. Daniel like his father was an excellent carpenter as well. He too like many Libby(s)for which they were well known for has men of large physical status; abnormally tall, large hands, board shouldered. I can attest that height is still the case today in our branch of the family. Daniel was honored best by his wife Mary, given her hard-work to maintain the farm, home, and family until their eldest son Levi at age seventeen became soul operator of farm. Daniel was honored by his father as well who named his youngest son Daniel born in 1821; three years after Daniel (I) death. Ironically he was considered a man of great quality as well. Daniel was laid to rest on his land; named the Daniel Libby Cemetery on Moulton Ridge Road in Porter, Maine. His wife and soul mate joined him many years later given she lived to the age of 73 years. His family of today is very proud to call ourselves his 3rd and 4th great grandchildren! Thank you for all you did in your short life; be assured it is not unappreciated!

Levi was the first born children to the couple as well. Levi father passed away when he was only eight years old; his 3 young siblings ranged from the age of three to seven. Levi's mother (Mary) became their sole care giver, she never re-married. Levi got his two middle names from his mother side: Smith from his mother paternal side; her great grandmother (Leah Smith m. Theophilus Rundlett) and Chapman from his maternal grandmother (Phebe Chapman m. Joshua Rundlett). By the time Levi was sixteen years of age, he was operating the family farmer in which his mother maintained after the death of his father. Levi became known as a very successful farmer, by the time he was age 30; the family farm was valued at 1,200.00 which was a lot of money in 1840. On 23 Mar 1834, Levi married Elizabeth Dyer Boothby she was the daughter of another successful farmer in Limington, Maine; Thomas and Sarah "Sally" Dyer Boothby. Levi and Eliza (as she was called) had eight children: 1. Julia Ann Libby (m.York) 1835-1912; b/d in Porter, Maine 2. Warren Libby (m. Huntress) 1836-1919; b/d in Porter, Maine 3. Mary Libby 1839-1840; only child not to reach adulthood; b/d in Porter, Maine 4. Mary Jane Libby (Never married) 1841-1868; b/d in Porter, Maine 5. Elzira Boothby Libby (m. Cook) 1843-1928; bin Porter, Maine; d in Cornish, Maine 6. Almeda Bragdon Libby (m. Harmon) 1847-1877; b in Porter, Maine; d in Hollis, Maine 7. Thomas Boothby Libby (m. Downs) 1849-1930; b/d in Porter, Maine 8. Roscoe Libby (m. 1st Hubbard, 2nd Titcomb) 1853-1919; b/d in Porter, Maine Levi family farm & home (formerly his father) was located between his paternal grandfather Stephen Libby farm and the Jacob French Family Farm. The area today would be around the intersection of the French and Gilman Roads in Porter. His mother Mary remained living at the family farm home with Levi, his wife and children. Levi was well known in the town for all of his services, duties and committees he served on for the town, the Free Will Baptist Church and his neighbors. Levi eldest son Warren took over the operation of the farm by 1880 and cared for his aging parents Levi and Eliza until their deaths. L Levi died at the age if 76 yrs 3mos. 25 days on the farm in which he was born and lived his complete life on. He was laid to rest in the family cemetery (named Daniel Libby Cemetery) near his parents. His beloved wife Eliza joined him six years later.

He harvested timber for the shipbuilding industry and sent the product to Bangor, 12 miles away. Later he became a farmer and a cooper. In 1881 he was living with his son David in Greebush Maine.

!BIOGRAPHY: Daniel Carter Libby, In 1690 he fled with his wife's
relations to Marblehead to avoid the Indians at war, where he was a
carter. In his deposition he reported that about 1693 he moved into Col.
Norton's home and lived there about 18 years. In 1731 he and his wife
(Mary Ashton, married 23 Feb. 1687) and grand children were warned
from Beverly, and she (or her daughter) at times visited her Norton
cousins in Manchester; but 13 Sept. 1735 both were back in Marblehead,
she still lived there in 1737.

PORTSMOUTH FOR 10 YEARS. IN DEC 1699, HE, HIS BROTHER MATHEW,
BROTHER-IN-LAW DANIEL FOGG AND TWO OTHERS BOUGHT THE KNOWLES
PURCHASE. IT WAS THE PART OF KITTERY NOW ELIOT. IT FRONTED ON THE
PISCATAQUA RIVER AT AT "LONG BEACH" ABT 3/4 OF A MILE AND STRETCHED BACK INTO TOWN A LONG WAY. THE FOLLOWING SPRING THE DIVIDED IT LENGTHWIZE SO THEY ALL HAD RIVER FRONTAGE. DAVID SPENT THE REST OF HIS LIFE HERE, A WELL TO DO FARMER. BURIED ON HIS OWN FARM.

"He was reared in that part of Kittery which is now Eliot, and became a

Source: LFA - "From Kittery he moved to Scarborough, and settled on a farm on
Scottow's Hill. his house was a garrison, and stood about two rods
southeast of the late residence of Leonard Libby.... There it was that
Nathaniel Dresser was killed by the Indians. David Libby shot the Indian
that did the deed, and wounded him so severely that he died soon after."
Both David & Esther were likely buried there, along with other Local inhabitants. Covered by dense growth, not more than 3-4 graves are now discernible.
General Notes: Child - Solomon Libby
!He was a carptener, and at first built him a house on his father's land,
southwest of the road. He afterward came into possession of the twenty
acres on the northeast side of the road, on which his brother David lived
until his removal to Scarborough,and there lived until the time of his
death. He had acquired considerable real estate, and settled each of his
sons on a farm. His homestead he gave to Nathan. His widow outlived him
33 years.

!David Libby early adopted the following of the sea, and became captain
of a coaster. During the French War he was engaged in transporting
supplies to the garrison at Black Point. He bought a lot at Blue Point and
built him a house there. He sold this property in December, 1762 and was
one of the company who formed the first settlements at Machias, in
1763. He did not stay there long. In June 1768, he sold his seven-acre
home lot to Samuel Libby, and soon after removed to Providence, R.I.,
where he resided during the Revolution, and some years after. In his old
age he and his wife returned to Maine. She died near the home of her
childhood. After her death, her husband led an unsettled, homeless life,
stopping here and there in the neighborhood of Scarborough,Me. The time
and place of his death are unknown.
