He married Emma, daughter of Sir Robert Baard, by whom he had four sons, John, Humphrey, Thomas, and Phillip. The youngest son, Phillip, married Joan, daughter of John Pykot, of Hatfield, by whom he had three children, Richard, John and Alice; this appears by a deed in which all three are named, dated in the 20th year of King Edward the Third, settling a house and lands on them. This estate was situated at Colewell, or Collier Street in Hatfield, and on it Phillip and his descendants resided. Four generations of them are named in deeds now in existence.
General Notes: Child - John De Barentone
John de Barenton was knighted by King Edward the Third, in his father's life time, and had a resettlement of his estates made in the year 1345 by a deed from John Knyvet, rector of Dunmow, and William Amys, chaplain of Hatfield, by which they gave and granted to John de Barenton, son of Nicholas de Barenton, and to Margaret his wife, all lands tenements &c with the woodwardship of the forest. John was living in 1368 as he appears as a witness to a deed April 20 the 41st year of King Edward the Third, but he must have died soon after, as in a deed dated 11th of Jan. in the 42nd year of Edward the Third, Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Essex, Hereford and Northampton, Constable of England, at the request of his dear and well beloved John Knyvet, discharged Dame Margaret Barenton, wife of the late Sir John Barenton, for her life, from all services and customs due from the tenements she held in Hatfield, excepting quit rents, with an acknowledgement of services due, and the care of the fence round his park. John had two sons, John and Edmund, the latter possessed the Manors of Gravely, Letchworth and Cheresfield together with the parkership of the park at Weston near Baldock, and other lands there, all in Hertfordshire, and which had been the property of his mother Margaret and settled after her death on her younger children.

Cap farmed with his father and lived at home all of his life. It was not until his parents were deceased that he married Erna Baars who was a teacher at Burt Central High School though she had had a room at the Grover Home as long as I can remeber. The Burt School District had a ruling against female teachers being married so she just rented a room there until she retired.
Education: Iowa State College in Agriculture in Ames, Iowa. Was in R.O.T.C. at Iowa State College during World War I, returning to the farm when his father was injured.

He was survived by his sister, Zada Grover Smith and her daughter, Josephine and son, John. On his Grover side of the family, he was survived by only 1 cousin, Mrs. Pat Rassmussen (Mary ) of Algona, IA.

The son of Jehan and Marie Le Normann Streng of Walbredimus,
Luxembourg, Henry Streng (Streing) of Gien, Loiret, France,
was born in Waldbredimus, Luxembourg, Germany, about 1630.
Strang researcher, Charles Strange, never saw a document signed
by Henry written any other way than 'Streng' even though
numerous documents exist in which his name is spelled Streing.
He married Marie Babaulton 23 Sept 1650 and was naturalized as
a French Citizen on 4 March 1651. They had 7 known children:
Edmunde, Marie Francois, Paul, Henry, Daniel, Jean, and
Jacques. After Marie's death in 1677 Henry married the widow
Ester Mariette.
On Henry and Marie's son, Daniel's, marriage contract, dated
3 August 1680,they are listed as residents of Gien, near
Orleans. Eight years earlier, on29 July 1672, Daniel had
signed the roster of students at the Protestant Academy of
Geneva, Switzerland, as coming from Orleans, France. Henry's
employment as of 1650 was given as 'Collector of Taxes'. He
also served as major domo to the Duke de la Force, Henri Nompar
de Caumont (1582-1678), Duke de la Force and a Marshal of
France, and was a distinguished captain on the Protestantside
at the siege of Montauban which had been headquarters of the
Huguenot rebellion of 1621. In 1658, Henry was in the service
of the Duke of Anjou. From 1664 through 1675 he was employed
as a military steward (Lieutenant of Logistics) for Philippe
(1640-1701), brother of Louis XIV, who received the title of
Duke of Orleans in 1661. Henry obviously prospered in his work
for his large, impressive inventory, filed 28 September 1685,
comprised farms, houses andlands in and around Gien and ran to
29 articles and 9 pages. His principal residence was at the
end of the bridges of Gien in the parish of Poilly but he is
often referred to as Squire de La Robiniere, an estate in
nearby Autry-le-Chatel, which was part of his wife's dowry.2 SOUR S726

He was a farmer, and the inn keeper of Strang's Tavern, Rye,
NY, on the

Daniel Streing/Strang, Sr., was born in 1655 in Gien, Orleans,
France. Daniel Streing, Sr. attended the Protestant Academy of
Geneva, Switzerland. Daniel and his brother, Jacques, were
sent to Paris by their father, Henry to learn the wholesale
wine trade inthe cellars of Michel and Guillaume Hubert,
Michel being the maternal uncle by marriage of Charlotte Le
Maistre. People took their religion very seriouslyin those
days and in fact, most of those listed here at this time were
shortly to forfeit their considerable properties and wealth and
flee the homeland to England. Five years later from
Charlotte's marriage, Pierre Pittan and his wife, officially
renounced the Protestant faith when Louis XIV revoked the Edict
of Nantes.
Daniel Streing, Blaise Thibou, Samuel Le Maistre, Guillaum and
Michel Hubert were among the first of what was to number
500,000 Frenchmen who forsook their properties and fled the
realm rather than convert to Catholicism or be tortured and
killed. Daniel fled to London from Paris in a wine caskaboard
a Seine River barge and occupied himself there as a merchant
until 1688 when he migrated to America. We believe Daniel came
to this country withina year of the time he left Paris, at
least for a visit. Records of the Town of New Rochelle list
Daniel as a Lieutenant of Infantry.
French Protestant stock is considered the ablest and sturdiest
of all the many which have mingled to make the modern American.
They fled from France at the revocation of the Edict of Nantes
preferring self- expatriation to the renunciation of their
religious beliefs. Daniel Streing brought his strong religious
beliefs with him when he crossed the ocean to the new America.
He was one of the founders of NewRochelle, New York and
enthusiastically embraced his new life. He was intimately
involved in the planning and building of the quickly growing
Huguenot settlement . It was laid out on six thousand acres
purchased by contract to Jacob Leisler by John Pell on 2 July
1687 but was not consummated by a deed until1689.
Daniel was a Justice of the Peace and an elder of the French
Church atNew Rochelle and owned 276 acres in New Rochelle,
including the site of the present city hall. On 30 March 1695
he was made a Freeman in the City of New York as an ale-house
keeper and had interest in property in the Dock Ward. He and
his descendants operated a tavern on Post Road in Rye until the
1840's and then a post office and general store until almost
the turn of the present century. The building was torn down
in 1928 and the site now holds a warehouse.
According to John d'Estrange in his Strang genealogy for his
niece, Sarah Ann Strang: 'His (Daniel's) great antipathy to
the Catholics and Jesuits is said to have been very warm and
almost unbounded so that often it occurred that upon the very
mentioning of them, and upon his recounting and calling to his
mind and memory the sufferings, cruelties and hardships which
he had himself experienced and which he had seen practiced upon
the Protestants in France he would be most frequently elated to
almost a fury and frenzy and scarcely able to resist his
passion and to govern and retain himself of which some
instancesare related'
Wynkoop infers that Daniel's Calvinistic convictions would have
precluded his membership in an Episcopalian congr
