Note: Baldwin de Redvers was founder of Bremer Abbey, County Wilts, and Quarr Abbey, County Hants. In April, 1136, there were rumors of the death of King Stephen, and on hearing this he was one of the first to break out in revolt. Seizing the royal castle of Exeter, he sustained a long siege by the King, and was ultimately allowed to withdraw his forces on giving up the castle. The King then proceeded to the Isle of Wight, took possession of the island, and drove him, with his wife and children, into exile. Baldwin then took refuge at the court of the Count of Anjou, and soon afterwards conducted a successful raid into Normandy. About Lent, 1138, he was taken prisoner in Normandy by Enguerrard de Say, a partisan of King Stephen. He returned to England in the autumn of 1139, shortly before the arrival of the Empress Maud, and landing at Warham, seized the castle of Corfe. This he defended successfully against the King, forcing him to eventually raise the siege. By the Empress Maud. (daughter of Henry I and mother of Henry II) he was created Earl of Devonshire in the year 1141. He married 1st Adeliza, 2nd Lucia. His daughter Eve married Anchitel Grey.

Note: Baldwin de Redvers was founder of Bremer Abbey, County Wilts, and Quarr Abbey, County Hants. In April, 1136, there were rumors of the death of King Stephen, and on hearing this he was one of the first to break out in revolt. Seizing the royal castle of Exeter, he sustained a long siege by the King, and was ultimately allowed to withdraw his forces on giving up the castle. The King then proceeded to the Isle of Wight, took possession of the island, and drove him, with his wife and children, into exile. Baldwin then took refuge at the court of the Count of Anjou, and soon afterwards conducted a successful raid into Normandy. About Lent, 1138, he was taken prisoner in Normandy by Enguerrard de Say, a partisan of King Stephen. He returned to England in the autumn of 1139, shortly before the arrival of the Empress Maud, and landing at Warham, seized the castle of Corfe. This he defended successfully against the King, forcing him to eventually raise the siege. By the Empress Maud. (daughter of Henry I and mother of Henry II) he was created Earl of Devonshire in the year 1141. He married 1st Adeliza, 2nd Lucia. His daughter Eve married Anchitel Grey.

Generation 15- John Richmond of Brinkworth died in 1573. His wife wasAgnes.
Generation 16- Henry Richmond of Brinkworth died in 1581. His wife wasalso named Agnes.
Generation 17- John Richmond of Brinkworth was born in 1561 and died in1623. His will was probated in 1626 showing hi s wife as Mary Cook.
Generation 18- Henry Richmond of Christian Malford, Wiltshire had fivewifes.
The last three were Alice, Ann and Elizabeth. Two sons John and Henrywere of the first marriage. Supposedly he had 25 c hildren in all with his5 wifes. Only twelve are listed as growing to adulthood in the WiltshireVisitation Pedigrees, 16 23.

Richmond's book from John's nephew, Oliffe Richmond to his cousinSilvester says:
"Ashton Keyes, 29 March 1736. Dear Cousin -- It is agreed by all that ourancestors first settled at rodborne, Wilts; th at two branches lived atChedderton, in Lyddiard Treygoze Parish, Wilts and Brinkworth, Wilts. Thefarthest of our famil y I can trace is our grandfather who lived atChristian Malford, Wilts, about three miles from Chippenham in the CO.Th e house is now standing. Henry, our grandfather, had four wives and asI have been informed twenty-five children, twelv e of whom grew up to bemen and women. Children by his first wife were: John and Henry (TheAmesbury Branch) now descendi ng form John who killed his brother duringthe civil wars and cost our grandfather so much money to save his lifethat hi s estate was sold or mortgaged. Children by second wife: Peter,(father to George and William).
