John Perkins sailed from Bristol, ENG, 1 Dec 1630 after a "very tempestuous voyage, on the ship "LION," William Pierce, master, taking with him his entire family, consisting of his wife and five children. The boat arrived at Nantasket 5 Feb. 1631 and the next day anchored before Boston.
He settled first in Boston, where on 18 May 1631 he took the oath of freeman which admitted him to all rights of the colony. On 7 Nov. 1632 the General Court appointed Capt. Traske, William Cheeseboro, Mr. Conant, and John Perkins to set down the bounds between Roxbury and Dorchester, Mass.
(Jacob Perkins of Wells, Maine, and his Descendants)
(A tentative line of descent of John Perkins from Pierre de Morlaix alias Perkins, living in 1380, high steward of the estates of Hugo Despencer, through Henry, John, William, Thomas, whose wife was Ellen Tompkins of co. Hereford, James of Shropshire, Thomas of Hillmorton, Henry, and Thomas who married Alice Kebble, is given in "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine," 1909, Lewis Historical Publishing Company, vol. 3, pp. 508-509.
Abstracts of wills of the Perkins families of Hillmorton with a pedigree chart are printed in " Notes on the Perkins Families in England," 1894 by D.W. Perkins, pp, 5-10.)
In 1633 John removed to Ipswich, Mass., the colony newly founded by John Winthrop, where he had several grants of land. his house was near the river, at the entrance of Jeffries Neck, on what is now East Street. Here he engaged in agriculture.
He was a deputy to the session of the General Court held in Boston 25 May 1636. He held many town offices, occupied places of trust, and was one of the leading men at Ipswich. His will, dated Mar. 1654, mentions all of his children except Ann.
(All of the above notes are taken from "Jacob Perkins of Wells, Maine, and his Descendants.")

When Henry married his eldest son was to be called John Perkyns (born 1360 in Madresfield, Worcestershire, England and died 05 Jan 1400 in the same place); again the suffix to indicate the eldest but changed from "kin" to "kyns". John became quite well educated and began often signing his name as John Perkins...Thus began the spelling carried by all subsequent generations...

Jacob Perkins was the youngest son of John, sen. He was born in England in 1624 and was consequently but seven years old when he landed in Boston with his parents in 1631. Two years after, when only nine years old, he removed with others of the family to Agawam or Ipswich, which was to be his future home, and very probably assisted his father in building his house in this strange land. The earliest mention of him is found in his father's will made about the time of his death, 1654.
After the death of his father and mother he came in possession of the homestead, stated in the will as "dwelling-house, all the outhousing and landes of one kinde and another, together with all improvements thereupon."
This house was located in the extreme eastern part of the town of Ipswich, very near the river side and also near to Manning and Jeffries' necks, where much of his farming land was situated.
This house he occupied until the seventh of August, 1668, when it was destroyed by fire through the carelessness of a servant girl. She was imprisoned and afterward brought up before the magistrate to answer for her deed.

Born: 1380 - Madresfield, Eng Baptized: Died: 1451 - Ufton Court, Berkshire, Eng Buried:Spouse: Margaret Collee Marr: 1409
General Notes: Husband - John Perkins
When Henry married his eldest son was to be called John Perkyns (born 1360 in Madresfield, Worcestershire, England and died 05 Jan 1400 in the same place); again the suffix to indicate the eldest but changed from "kin" to "kyns". John became quite well educated and began often signing his name as John Perkins...Thus began the spelling carried by all subsequent generations...
General Notes: Child - William Perkins
Various records show that he was flourishing in 1420 & 1427. The 1424 records show a family rift, with a fine imposed between John Collee & Elizabeth (his wife?) and William Perkins and his wife, Margaret. It is not sure whether the John Collee referred to is Margaret's father or a brother by the same name. William's identity is proven by the notation that he was "son of John the Seneschal". Whatever the cause of the legal spat, William & Margaret and their heirs were awarded the manor & advowson of Ufton Robert, near Reading, England; and a moiety of land in Buscot amongst Ufton & other places. This estate remained in the Perkins family for centuries. A history of the manor & surrounding village can be found at David Nash Ford's Royal Berkshire History website (http://www.berkshirehistory.com/villages/ufton_nervet.html).
A "moiety", from the Latin "medietas", is one half of a tract of land. An "advowson" was the right to nominate someone to officiate a vacant church. It was a common appendant to a manor, granting the lord of the manor the right to choose the clergy of the local church.
As with most manors, Ufton officially "belonged" to King Richard II (r. 1377-1399), with William agreeing his fealty and support in return for the lands, buildings & vassals. This, of course, meant that William needed to raise men & money for any military action called by his King. In addition, William had to protect his lands & vassals from any dangers & attacks. It wasn't all sitting on the veranda, sipping mead.
William continues to show up in records of the time. He witnessed "...a deed or grant from Henry VI to provost and college of Eton, of lands in New and Old Windsor and Clewer..."[4] In 1447, he appears in the Court Roll of the Manor of Bray as the "Baillous" to the Duke of Gloucester. This Duke was brother to King Henry V (r. 1413-1422) and, as his uncle, one of the guardians of Henry VI (r. 1422-1461, 1470-1471) until he came of age.
