King's Daughters and Founding Mothers
The Filles du Roi, 1663-1673
By Peter J. Gagné Page 394
Marie Major was born about 1640 in the parish of Saint-Thomas in Touques (arrondissement and diocese of Lisieux), Normandy, the daughter of Jean Major (receveur of the barony of Heuqueville-en-Vexin and Aubeuf-en-Vexin) and Marguerite Le Pélé. After losing both parents, she left for Canada in 1668 at about age 28, bringing a dowry estimated at 300 livres.
On 11 September 1668, Marie married Antoine Roy dit Desjardins at Québec City. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 06 September by notary Lecomte. A cooper, Antoine was baptized 23 March 1635 in the parish of Saint-Jean in Joigny (archdiocese of Sens), Burgundy, the son of master cooper Olivier Roy and Catherine Boderge or Bauldard. He arrived in Canada 18 June 1665 as a soldier with the Froment Company of the Carignan Regiment. Antoine and Marie settled at Batiscan, where son Pierre was born about 1669.10
Antoine and Marie lived in the home of millet farmer Julien Talua dit Vendamont at Lachine. Talua suspected a certain "familiarity" between his wife (Fille du Roi Anne Godeby) and Antoine Roy dit Desjardins. So after leaving before daybreak on 10 July 1684, he returned about 6 a.m. to find his wife in bed with Antoine. Talua picked up a stick and beat Antoine until he was dead. Surgeon Jean Martinet dit Fonblanche was sent to the crime scene to examine Roy's body and prepare a report. Julien Talua was tried at Montréal and sentenced to death for homicide. He appealed the sentence and was granted a new trial date for the next year, having been released from prison and ordered to stay within three leagues of Québec City. When the time came for his re-trial, Talua was nowhere to be found and was never seen again.
Pierre Gauthier dit Saguingoira, husband of Fille du Roi Charlotte Roussel, was named guardian of both Antoine's estate and the possessions of Julien Talua dit Vendamont, which had been confiscated by the court. Marie Major died 08 December 1689 at the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec.
10Tanguay also lists Antoine, baptized 18 December 1671 (son of Siméon Roy dit Ody & Claude Deschalets) and Pierre-Jean-Baptiste, born in 1691, after Antoine died (1684).
General Notes: Child - Pierre Roy Dit Desjardins
Godfather was Pierre Constant.
Pierre was a coope
!Note: Pierre's baptism was never found in Batiscan or Champlain, however the 1681 census Vol 6, p 151 at Batiscan lists him as age 12. Pierre was a cooper like his father and also a carpenter.
!MARRIAGE: Pierre signed both his marriage contract and the parish register entry as Pierre Le Roy. Contrat G. Rageot 29 Jan 1691

General Notes: Husband - Thomas Makepeace
MAKEPEACE, THOMAS, Dorchester 1636, came with a large family. Artillery company 1638, m. 1641, for his second wife Elizabeth widow of Oliver Mellows, had Joseph, baptized 20 Sept. 1646, who probably died before his father, removed some yrs. later to Boston, and there died. In his will of 30 June 1666, he names eldest son Thomas, to whom he had before given home and land in England where he then lived, and William; eldest daughter Hannah, w. of Stephen Hoppin; Mary, w. of Lawrence Willis; Esther, w. of John Brown of Marlborough; and Waitawhile, w. of Josiah, not (as Geneal. Reg. V. 402, has it) Thomas Cooper, nine children of Hoppin, whose mother was Opportunity, four of Brown, and two of Cooper.
WILLIAM, Boston, s. prob. of the preced. m. 23 May 1661, Ann Johnson, removed I suppose, to Taunton, for there the name was long kept up.

Thomas Makepeace came from either London or Bristol about 1635. He lived in Dorchester and in Boston. None of the early records show from what part of England Thomas Makepeace came, except since he was part of the Dover Patent, it is assumed that he came from Bristol.
In, 1637, soon after his arrival in Boston from England, Thomas Makepeace was granted "... a house plot and garden place." with location given as "... bounded with Jeremy Houtchin, Southeast; William Wilson, South; the street, Westerly; and the lane, Northerly." It was ..." in Hanover Street, near Court Street, and probably not as far from where Concert Hall now (1857) is..." It was near the "Market Stead" where the first "Meeting House" was built and where the Brazier Building stood in 1896. He was an original member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and was "... a person of some consequence and of considerable wealth". He acquired property in 1638 at Muddy River (Brookline), "in the Islands", and in 1641, 200 acres in Dorchester. The History of Dorchester, says that Thomas Makepeace was of a liberal view as regards to religion for in 1638 he was involved in a squabble and his detractors wrote, "we are were weary of him unless he reformed". In 1641, with other owners, he contributed"... the whole of rents and profits of Thompson's Island to the town of Dorchester for the support of a free school."
His will dated Boston, 30 June, 1666, is on record in the Probate Office in Boston. Extracts of his will: To Thomas, "mine eldest sonne (beyond the seas) and to his heirs forever, the debt of fifty pounds, which he oweth mee (for which end I have torne off the seals of his bill) and no more, because I have given him his portion foremally, viz ye house and land in England (he being the heyre to it) wich he hath long possessed. ! NOTE: It is possible that Thomas is the son of his first wife) To Hannah "Unto Hannah, mine eldest daughter, the wife of Stephen Hopkins, of Thomas's Island and to her heyres forever, five pounds, to be payed her, or her order, within one year after my death." also, "unto my grandchildren, Delieurance, John, Stephen, Hannah, Sarah, Thomas, Opportunity, Joseph, and Benjamin Hopkis (they being the nine children of my daughter Hannah, wife of Stephen Hopkin, above sayed) to each ten pounds, which sayed legacies the males shall receive as they come to the age of twenty- one,the females at eighteen or the day of marriage, which shall happen first, with this exception relating to Stephen only, that if my executors shall, when he comes to twenty-one years of age, find him to persist on in his wild and wastful courses, then they shall pay him (of his legacy of ten pounds) only ten shillings per annum till he be well reformed, and then, and not before, they shall pay him the residue he hath not received of the stated tenne pounds." To Mary "Unto my daughter Mary, wife of Lawrence Willis of Boston, that house in Boston, wherein she with her said husband now dwells, during her life only, and at her death, her brother, William, shall have ye same. Also unto my daughter Mary, and to her heyres forever one debt owing to me from Jim Willis of Bridgewater, senior, and also one debt due to me from his sonne, Jim Willis, of ye same towne aforesaid, Junior." To Esther " unto my daughter, Hester, ye wife of John Brown, of Marlborough, and to her heyres forever, five pounds, to be paid in one year after my decease, also to her heyres, ye debt her said husband owes me." ... also "unto my grandchildren, vis, to Elizabeth, Joseph, Sarah, Mary and John Brown, they being the five children of my daughter Hester, ye wife of John Browne, unto each ten pounds, males at twenty-one, females at eighteen or day of marriage." To William "Unto my sonne, William, my house in Boston, wherein my sonne in law, Lawrence Willis, now dwelleth with piece of land as I have now stacked out to it, I say, I give the same to him, my second sonne, William, and to his heyres forever, hee to enter upon the same at the death of my daughter, Mary Willis, and not before; besides this, I freely give unto my said sonne, William, a debt to me from Thomas of Blocke Island, being three pound of odd money." To Waitawhile " unto my daughter Waytawhildel, the wife of Josiah Cooper of Boston, five pounds (to be paid as before)." ha also willed pleased God to take away Thomas Cooper, one of ye children above named, my will is yet if she be with child, that child to enjoy ye ten pounds."

The Richardson Memorial by John Adams Vinton, 1876 printed by Brown
Thurston& Co., Portland, Maine (1876), pg. 608:
ABIJAH RICHARDSON, son of Abijah and Eunice (Thompson) Richardson, of
Litchfield, Me.; born in Westford, Mass., May 9, 1775, before his
father's removal; married, March 17, 1799, REBECCA MALCOLM, of Salem, who
was born Nov. 11, 1782, dau. of David Malcolm.
Her mother's first husband was a Becket. They had a son Joseph H.
Becket, Esq., who was executor of his step-father's will in 1827. This
makes a little confusion in the record. Rebecca Malcolm had not only two
husbands, but she had a son Joseph H. Becket, and also a son Joseph
Becket Richardson; both grownup men in 1827.
Abijah Richardson was a ship carpenter. He lived in Cushing, Me., a
town convenient for his business, and not far from Litchfield, his early
home. He died, March 4, 1827, aged 52. His will is dated Sept. 22,
1826; proved June 6, 1827; recorded Lincoln Prob. Records, xxvii. 437.
His step-son Joseph H. Becket, Esq., was executor a, and presented the
will for probate. By the will, the widow Rebecca was to have all the
estate, both real and personal, by paying out to each of the children,
who were ten in number, the sum of one dollar.
The inventory included only a house and land immediately around the
same, valued at three hundred dollars, and personal estate $167.25; total
$467.25. So that there was not much to divide among the heirs.
[Note two Abijahs. Richardson Memorial has this Abijah, and Maine
Families in 1790, has Abijah, b. 8-26-1781: m. 12 May 1805 Betsey
Johnson. I tend to believe that this 2nd Abijah Richardson is NOT the son
of Abijah and Eunice (Thompson) Richardson and that the Maine Families in
1790 placed him wrongfully in this family group. JBKaherl]

The Richardson Memorial, 1876, by John Adams Vinton, pg 665:
JOSEPH BECKET RICHARDSON, eldest son of Abijah and Revecca 9Malcolm)
Richardson; born in Salem, Mass., Feb. 1, 1800; married Ann Hathorne,
dau. of James Hathorne.
CyrusEaton's History of Thomaston informs us that "he came from
Cushing, Me., to Thomaston," without specifying or giving further
information, except that he "came to Old Thomaston," that is, before the
division of that town, which wasin 1848. Old Thomaston was divided into
the three towns of Thomaston, Rockland and South Thomaston. Rockland was
formerly known as East Thomaston. Cushing is a town on the St. George's
River, Me., south of Waldoborough, which it adjoins, and nearly west of
"Old Thomaston."
No information is afforded ofJoseph Becket Richardson, except that he
had the following children, recorded in Thomaston, but some or all of
them were born previously to the removal.

The Richardson Memorial, 1876, by John Adams Vinton, pg 666:
REV. JOHN RICHARDSON, second son of Abijan and Revecca (Malcolm)
Richardson; born Feb. 19, 1806; married MARY JANE PERKINS, born Dec. 16,
1807, dau. of Abraham and Susan (Gilman) Perkins.
He is a Baptist minister. He studied at New Hampton, N. H.;possibly
at Newton, Mass.; was ordained a minister of the Baptist Church in
Pitsfield, N. H. where he reMained almost twelve years; was pastor at
SouthBerwick, Me., from 1842-1859; at South Amesbury, Mass., from 1859
to 1864; at Turner, Me., from 1864-1868. Since 1868, he has resided in
Lewiston, Me., and frequently supplies pulpits in that city and vicinity.
