General Notes: Child - Elizabeth Zumwalt

After word of the Alamo falling and her husband being killed there, the
family began the flight to the east with most of the people walking. Andrew Kent's wife Elizabeth had nine children with her; Sarah 17,
Isaac 15, Louisa almost 14, Bosman 12, Elizabeth 10, Mary Ann 8, Nancy Jane 6, Andrew Jackson 3 1/2, and Phinette 16 months. When they came to streams the familes were broken up to cross on rafts and small boats. Bosman, Mary Ann and Andrew Jackson became separated from the others. Andrew Jackson, who was only 3 1/2, was never found again. Every family remembers the name of the lost little child, Andrew Jackson Kent. The thought of a frightened little 3 1/2 year old boy hiding under some bushes waiting for a father who never will come, gives a lasting memory. Elizabeth age 10, and Phinette, 16 months, seems to have died of exposure and hurried buried along the way, their graves are lost.

JAMES MILLER FAMILY HISTORY (1967), compiled and edited by Nell Creer Frame, p.83:
Born April 28, 1861 at Spanish Fork, Utah, died December 31, 1936. Was the 4th child of James Miller and Margaret Anderson Miller. James David married Emily Rebecca Snell, June 2, 1886, the daughter of John Wesley Snell and Ann Lucilla Beck Snell.
He owned a home on 1st west in Spanish Fork, across the street from the Tithing Yard, where the Indians camped when they came to the city.
He also owned a building on Main Street and used it as a harness shop for about 10 years. He then sold the home and shop and bought a farm in Palmyra. He and mother loved the farm and had reared 3 children when the youngest, Snell, fell seriously ill and was confined to a Salt Lake hospital for a period of 7 months. The farm was sold to provide proper medical care for the boy and James moved him family back to Spanish Fork where he worked for the Spanish Fork Coop harness shop for several years.
In 197 the family moved to Provo while James worked for the railroad in Nevada for the greater part of three years. The three older children, Elmer, Margaret, and Snell attended Brigham Young University.
In 1910 Margaret was married and the family returned to Spanish Fork where James worked for the Sugar Factory for a period of 16 years.
He was a wonderful father and a good provider, thinking first of his children's future and well being. He was an avid sportsman and liked nothing better than to lay his spoils of game on the family table for his wife Emily.

General Notes: Wife - Emily Rebecca Snell

from HISTORY OF CHARLES DIXON, One of the Early English Settlers of Sackville, N(ew) B(runswick) (1891), Compiled by James D. Dixon -- A Grandson, p.70:
"Emily Rebecca, fifth daughter of John Wesley and Anna L. Beck Snell, married Mr. James Miller, and they have children named Elmer and Margaret (1891)."

JAMES MILLER FAMILY HISTORY (1967), compiled and edited by Nell Creer Frame, p.83:
Emily Rebecca Snell was born in Spanish Fork December 2nd, 1867 and although she helped in the home with the younger children she had the opportunity to attend school and to take music lessons. She graduated as an excellent student and a fine penman from the George H. Brimhall School, later to become BYU.
She was active in her church and was secretary of the first primary organized in Spanish Fork.
As her father worked on the Railroad in Arizona and Nevada, she went with him and often helped cook for his group of men. She loved that work as she was an excellent cook.
June 2, 1886 she married James D. Miller and bore him 3 sons and a daughter. She was a wonderful mother and was loved by all who knew her. After the birth of her first son, Elmer, she reared the son of her sister Lucilla Creer who passed away when the baby was born. This child lived only 4 months but Emily loved him as her own.
At the age of 38 Emily's health failed and she had a very serious operation which rendered her health impaired for 8 years. She was taken to the hospital for another operation and passed away on Christmas Day, 1915.

Warren County Local History by Dallas Bogan

After the peace treaty with the Indians (Treaty of Greenville) in 1795, settlers began to trickle in. Some of the men and families that entered Deerfield Township in 1796 were: Joseph Coddington, Moses Kitchel, Jeremiah Morrow, Thomas Espy and John Parkhill. The next few years saw John Meeks, Robert Witham, John Bigham, Stephen Bowyer, etc.

A church built just west of Muddy Creek, near the Butler County line had the names of John Steward, T.T. Brown and Robert Witham recorded as first members.

The History of Warren County Ohio; Part IV Township Histories; Deerfield Township by Louis F. Coleman, 1882

Robert Witham settled about 1798 on the eastern half of Section 28; he was the ancestor of many families of Withams now found throughout the township.

General Notes: Child - William Wyman

Wyman Genealogy, John Howard Wyman at www.wyman.org:
According to (Osborne) family tradition, William was killed when felling
a tree. Love administered his estate 10 March 1783. He was buried on lot
36 near the 'Pond Hole', his grave suitably marked and faithfully tended.
On April 7 1806 his son Moses sold James Wall about 12 acres of the
northwest corner of lot 36, reserving 1/4 acre 'near the Pond Hole where
my father and others lie buried'.
A reservationignored in later deeds. In 1891-3 Hollingsworth and
Whitney Co. (now Scott Paper Co,) built a pulp mill on the land. The
'Pond Hole' was filled in and the grave sites obliterated. The human
bones unearthed were declared to be those of an ancient Indian burial
ground. Without further research, they were reinterred in a park near the
town hall and marked with a commemorative stone. Supposedly, Love's
father (Moses Chick?) and a son were buried with William. Love may have
been buried there, too.
Named administrator of his father's will; his and Bethia's families
enumerated in the 1766 census of West Pownalborough (Dresden), inherited
the Swan Island farm (except 20 acres), sold to Ralph Chapman on 12 Apr
1768 and moved to a lot adjoining his brother Daniel at Bowdoinham,
Maine, sold it to Daniel on 29 June 1773 and moved to Winslow,Maine where
he bought from Timothy Hudson lot 36 on the east side of the Kennebec,
south of Taconic Falls and north of Fort Halifax at the confluence of
Kennebec and Sebasticook Rivers. The deed is dated 13 June 1781 but he
probably took possession about 1772.
At that time, deeds were being registered as much as 15 years after the
transfer of the property. William and Daniel bought their lot on
Abagadasset from Agreen Crabtree who acquired his title from the
Pejepscot Proprietors. The Kennebec Proprietors later claimed the same
land and deeded it to Samuel Goodwin who sued William for it in the
Lincoln County Court which was controlled by the Kennebec Proprietors.
Naturally William lostand had to re-buy his land (Lincoln County Deeds,
vols 6-9)

General Notes: Husband - John Millett

No probate record for John was found in the Archdeaconry of Berkshire, Consistory Court of Sarum, or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, and no burial record was found for him at Newbury.

General Notes: Wife - Eleanor Pritchard

Although her name was given as Pritchard at her marriage, Reed and Mahler found no Pritchard probate records in Berkshire, and thought it more likely that her surname was Pritchett or Pritcherd, and that she came from a family across the border in Hampshire.

General Notes: Child - John Millett

John Millett was vicar of Enstowe, Oxford. On 28 January 1643 "John Millett clerke Brother of the aforesaid Elienor" -- her "auntient servant Elenor Millett" -- was named in the will of Ursula Curtis of Newbury, widow of Nicholas Curtis. No probate for John has been found in Berkshire, Oxfordshire or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.

General Notes: Child - William Millett

Regarding William's burial, Reed & Mahler say "possibly".

General Notes: Child - Elinor Millett

Reed and Mahler call her a possible daughter of John and Eleanor Millett.

General Notes: Child - Eleanor Millett

On 28 January 1643 "[m]y kinsman John Woolridge of Edington that marryed my auntient servant Elenor Millett" was named in the will of Ursula Curtis of Newbury, widow of Nicholas Curtis.

General Notes: Child - Thomas Millett

Savage notes that there are published errors regarding this family. He says Farmer gave the two sons born at Dorchester to Miller; and Dagget in his "History of Attleborough" gives all Millett children to Capt. Willett of Rehoboth, and Bliss followed that error in his "History of Rehoboth". Savage himself divided Thomas Millett into two people, one at Dorchester and the other at Gloucester.
In 1936 Frederick Weis, in "The Colonial Clergy and the Colonial Churches of New England", claimed that Thomas Millett came from Chertsey, Surrey, England, and that he was the son of Henry and Joyce (Chapman) Millett; Weis cited no evidence to support the claim.
In 1937 Stephen Millett submitted a claim to the Committee on Heraldry of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, saying that Thomas Millett belonged to the Millett family of Chertsey, because another resident of Southwark, Humphrey Millett, had a younger brother named Thomas. This Humphrey Millett belonged to the Chertsey family and died at Southwark in February 1679/1680. No evidence was offered to show that Humphrey and the immigrant Thomas were directly connected, or that they had even lived at Southwark at the same time, and it assumed that Thomas married in 1629 while still an apprentice, which is unlikely. (It should also be noted that Southwark, south of London across the river Thames, was a populous area that attracted people from all over England, many of whom stayed for only a short time.) But the Society accepted the identification and added it to their list of armorial families in November 1937. This ancestry for Thomas Millett was repeated in the Millett Genealogy by George Francis Millett, published in 1959.
Henry Millett of Chertsey and Staple Inn, London, attorney at law, signed the Visitation of Surrey in 1623, naming eight children. The will of of Henry Millett of Staple Inn in Holborne, the elder, gentleman, "now dwelling at Chertsey" is dated 22 July 1630. His will accounts for all the children named in the visitation. Henry's father, John Myllett, resided at Chertsey, but was from "Redwood nigh Lemster" in Herefordshire. Thomas was the fourth and youngest son. The family continued to reside at Chertsey.
In the 1970s English researcher Nick Hidden abstracted Berkshire wills. Among these was the will of Ursula Curtis of Newbury, Berkshire, widow of Nicholas Curtis, dated 28 January 1643. The will mentioned her "auntient servant Elenor Millett" who had married John Wolridge, Elenor's brother John Millett, and Elenor's brother Thomas Millett of New England. There are no John and Elenor among the children of Henry Millett of Chertsey.
Using wills and parish registers Paul Reed and Leslie Mahler (TAG 75:81-93) have traced the ancestry of the Millett family of Newbury, Berkshire for several generations. They say the Millett family was established at Newbury by the reign of Henry VIII, that Thomas Millett was not the son of Humphrey Millett of Southwark, and that Thomas was from Newbury, having temporarily settled at Southwark before leaving for America.
Millett says Thomas was bound to Robert Emery of Fetter Lane for 10 years. He was freed by his master Robert Emery 3 October 1631, which Millett believed was the wrong date. Both the Millett genealogy and "Second Boat" say Thomas Millett and Anne Greenaway married 1 May 1629 in England. Reed and Mahler cite Millett regarding the marriage of Thomas Millett and Mary Green[a]way in England 1 May 1629, the birth of their son John 6 May 1630 and his death in infancy, and the baptism of son Thomas at St. Saviour's, Southwark 16 August 1632. Reed and Mahler confirm that Thomas and Mary did not marry at Newbury, and their son Thomas was not baptized there. But they did not examine the registers of St. Saviour's Southwark, and could not confirm those dates.

Thomas Millett sailed from London on the "Elizabeth", William Stagg, Master: Thomas, aged 30, with wife Mary, 29; son Thomas, 2. They brought a certificate of conformity from the minister at St. Saviors, Southwark, England dated 12 April 1635. With them was "Ursula Grenoway" age 32 -- Mary's sister.
They settled in Dorchester MA. Thomas Millett joined the church at Dorchester in 1636, the year after his arrival. He signed his name "Mr. Millett", and his wife signed hers "Mary Millet" in 1637.
He became freeman on 17 May 1637.
Thomas had a grant of two acres, three quarters and four rods in Dorchester Neck 18 Mar 1637, and the same quantity in other lands.
On 28 January 1643 "Thomas Millett of New England brother to my said auntient servant Elienor Millett" received Five pounds in the will of Ursula Curtis of Newbury, widow of Nicholas Curtis.
Colket says of him: "Minister. Tailor. Coat of arms enrolled 262."
In 1655, Millet bought of William Perkins, who had been a teaching elder in the church at Dorchester a few years, all the property Perkins owned in the town. It seems that Thomas was entitled to use "Mr." because of his office in the church, for he succeeded Mr. Perkins as teaching elder. His name does not appear among the ministers of his time; only the Court Records show that he was engaged in ministry at Dorchester. "Second Boat" says descendants of Thomas Millett are eligible for membership in the Descendants of Colonial Clergy.
His house was burned in 1657, and a portion of the Records of Dorchester kept there were destroyed.
Thomas and Anne lived at Dorchester about 20 years and then removed to Gloucester. They were at Brookfield by 3 June 1675, when Thomas Millett and wife Anne gave their consent to the sale of a house and land on Town Neck to Francis Norwood.
He was killed by Indians at Brookfield.

Ipswich Quarterly Court Records 5:274 show administration on the estate of Thomas Millet, intestate, was granted 28 September 1675 to Mary Millet, the relict.
Ipswich Quarterly Court Records 5:282 show: "Inventory of the estate of Tho.
