Biographical Sketch:
George Albert Smith was born on April 4, 1870, in Salt Lake City. His father, John Henry Smith, and grandfather, George A. Smith, had both been counselors to Church Presidents. While employed in the Federal Land Office for Utah, he was called at the age of 33 to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Despite fragile health and impaired eyesight, he had a distinguished career as a Church leader. He became President of the Church on May 21, 1945. He organized the Church's massive welfare assistance to Europe following World War II. He also championed Scouting among Latter-day Saints. Through numerous other civic and Church responsibilities, President Smith lived that portion of his personal creed that declared, "I would be a friend to the friendless and find joy in ministering to the needs of the poor" (Improvement Era Mar. 1932, 295). After six years as President, George Albert Smith died in Salt Lake City on his eighty-first birthday, April 4, 1951.

the older 2-boys were the Farrington Brothers, outlaws. members of Quantrill's Partisan Raiders during the Civil War and were under the command of George Todd. Many ofQuantrill's were not allowed ot live in peace after the war and turned to outlawery. Hioiery wascaptured in Verona MO; withanother of the robbers, William Barton of Nashville,Tennessee.Hillery was killed whiletrying to escape--he, while strugglingwith one of his captors, William Pinkerton, over a revolver and Patrick Connell, a Southern Express security agent acturally hit Hillery causing him to fall over a low guard rail ofthe sidewheeler, ILLINOIS, while being transferred from Cairo,Illinois to Columbus, Kentucky, where they were to take a train to Union City. Levi was captured by Robert Pinkerton in Farmington, Illinois and he was shot to death in a SouthernHotel room in Union city, where he was being held for trial byvigilantes. He was supposedly shot 30 times, "and as evidence ofthe marksmanship ofthe men of Obion County, any one of the shots would have been fatal. Many ofQuantrill's were not allowed ot live in peace after the war and turned to outlawery. Hioiery wascaptured in Verona MO; withanother of the robbers, William Barton of Nashville,Tennessee.Hillery was killed whiletrying to escape--he, while strugglingwith one of his captors, William Pinkerton, over a revolver and Patrick Connell, a Southern Express security agent acturally hit Hillery causing him to fall over a low guard rail ofthe sidewheeler, ILLINOIS, while being transferred from Cairo,Illinois to Columbus, Kentucky, where they were to take a train to Union City. Levi was captured by Robert Pinkerton in Farmington, Illinois and he was shot to death in a SouthernHotel room in Union city, where he was being held for trial byvigilantes. He was supposedly shot 30 times, "and as evidence ofthe marksmanship ofthe men of Obion County, any one of the shots would have been fatal. The Farringtons were Quakers, connected with the Starbuck and Hinshaw families. Some came to England from Nonmandy with William the Conquerer. A Farringtom was the Mayor O London around 1300. They were in Virginia since at least 1611, primarily in Brunswick, Essex, and Surry Countyies, and in Somerset County, Maryland. They owned land southeast of Chapel Hill, NC, some now covered by lake Jordan. An Eighteenth century National Register house owned by the Farrington's still stands near the lake. The name is sometimes spelled Fearrington or Tharrington and curiously, some of the family spelled it Thornton or some variation thereof.

MEDWAY - Paul answered the roll call, with his family by his side, and went home to be with his creator June 15, 2012. Paul was the second son of Alfred Theodore and Mary Louise (Moro) Farrington. Paul was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Medway in his grandmother, Daisey's home - the same home in which he lived his entire married life with his wife, Billie. Paul served his country by entering the U.S. Navy in mid November 1944. He was assigned to the Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Hesperia. Near the end of the war his ship was assigned to Tokyo Bay with the duty of transporting prisoners of war. In June 1946 he received an honorable discharge. Paul was a 32 degree master Mason having been raised in Pine Tree Lodge No. 172 of Mattawamkeag; he was a member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor and a charter life member of Northern Penobscot Shrine Club for which he served one year as its president. He was very proud to be a member of Veterans Memorial Committee of Medway and he took much pleasure in seeing that memorial completed as a way to honor the veteran's of Medway. Paul also served his town as a member and chair of the school committee; was the town constable for many years and also served as a deputy sheriff of Penobscot County. During his younger years he was a lumberman and woods worker with his father. In 1953, he joined the workforce of Great Northern Paper Co. where he stayed for 37 years until his retirement. Paul always looked forward eagerly to the spring move to his camps on Cedar Lake. On Sept. 3, 1946, Paul married G. Pauline "Billie" Robertson and together they moved into his grandparent's home. There they raised five children who survive him, John W. and wife, Donna, of Medway and their children, Paul and Meredith; Paula L. and husband, Oliver W. Hayes, of Lincoln, Mass., and their daughter, Kimberly; Rebecca J. and husband, Stephen Coon, of Medway, and their children Jeffery, Lucas and Kristie; William R. and his partner, Lori Harley, of Portland; and Matthew P. and wife, Shelley, of Millinocket, and their children, Grace and Avery. He is survived by a special niece, Marie McLaughlin of Millinocket. Paul also has 13 great-grandchildren all of whom gave him a great deal to talk about. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie. He leaves behind two brothers, and their wives, Richard B. and Patricia, and Robert E. and Priscilla; and two sisters, Regina L. and husband, Roland E. McLaughlin, all of Medway, and Orrise "Sis" Prosser of Arizona. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Hilda E. Ciarrocchi of East Millinocket. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his brother, Sgt. John Wallace Farrington, who was killed in action in 1945 in the Eastern Theater of Operation. Per Paul's wishes there will be no viewing. There will be the opportunity to visit with the family 1:30-3 p.m. June 24 at First Congregational Church, East Millinocket, where a Masonic memorial service will take place 3 p.m. Paul's ashes will be interred with a military burial at Medway Cemetery, located along Grindstone Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to Northern Penobscot Shrine Club, 1748 Medway Road, Medway, ME 04460. Such donations will be sent in entirety to Shiners Hospitals' in Boston and Springfield, Mass.
