E. Millinocket Youth Held for action by September Grand Jury
Millinocket, June 8 AP
Robert O. Dow, 22-year-old East Millinocket youth was held without bail tonight, awaiting September grand jury action on a charge he murdered Thaxter M. Reardon, East Millinocket policeman.
Dow as arraigned and pleaded innocent to the charge in Municipal Court today.
Reardon died in a Bangor Hospital Sunday from injuries which Dow allegedly inflicted with a stone June 2, while the officer was attempting to lock him up at East Millinocket on an intoxication charge.
A medical examiner said Reardon's skull was fractured.

Patrolman Reardon was struck in the head with a rock by a 20 year old suspect he had arrested for public intoxication near the East Millinocket jail. Prior to losing consciousness, Patrolman Reardon managed to lock the suspect in a cell. Patrolman Reardon died three days later from the injury

EDMUND SUTTON (or DUDLEY), Knight, of Dudley Castle and Gatcombe, son and
heir apparent, was married for the first time to JOYCE TIPTOFT, third and
youngest daughter of John Tiptoft, Lord Tiptoft, by his second wife,
Joyce (descendant of King Edward I), younger daughter and co-heiress of
Edward Cherleton, Lord Cherleton [see CHERLETON 10 for her ancestry]. She
was sister of John Tiptoft, Earl of Worcester. Through this alliance, the
Lords Dudley became co-heirs of the Baronies of Tibetot and of Cherleton.
They had two sons and a daughter. He was married for the second time to
MAUD CLIFFORD, widow, with two daughters, of John Harington, Knight, and
daughter of Thomas de Clifford, 8th Lord Clifford (descendant of King
Edward III), by Joan (descendant of King Edward I), daughter of Thomas
Dacre, Lord Dacre of Gilsland [see CLIFFORD 7 forher ancestry]. They had
seven sons and five daughters. SIR EDMUND SUTTON died between 6 July 1483

Knighted before 1322, he fought at Boroughbridge, March 16, 1231/32 and
was taken prisoner. He was released from imprisonment in Pevensey Castle
on October 16, 1326 and on April 4, 1327 was made Joint Custodian of the
deposed King Edward II. He was tried by a jury of Knights as an accessory
to the murder of the deposed King as was acquitted.

Thomas, 3rd baron, married 1st, Margaret, daughter of Roger Mortimer,
Earl of March, and 2ndly, Catherine, daughter of Sir John Clyvedon, widow
or Sir Peter le Veel. This lord having adhered to the interest of the
Queen, Mortimer, and PrinceEdward, afterwards the third of that name,
furnished "the only precedent," says Smith, "of a peer being tried by
knights, as the peers would have been both judges and jurors." He first
assumed a mitre for his crest. He was summoned to parliament from 1329 to
1360. He had issue by his 1st wife, besides his heir, three sons, who
d.s.p., and one daughter, Joan, wife of Sir Reginald Cobham; by his 2nd
wife, had had, with three sons, who d.s.p., a 4th, John, ancestor of the
Berkeleys of Beverstone. He died 1361 and was succeeded by his son,
Maurice, 4th baron.
