General Notes: Husband - Abraham Wyman

History of Winthrop, Maine by Everett S. Stackpole, 1925, pg. 102-703:
"WYMAN"
Lieut. Abraham Wyman came in 1767 and settled on Lot No. 12, which was
granted to him 12 Oct. 1768. He was born 2 April 1728 in Woburn, Mass.,
son of Thomas and Dorcas (Baldwin) Wyman, grandson of Thomas and Mary
(Richardson), great grandson of Thomas Wyman, an early settler of
Woburn. Mr. Wyman first lived in Pawnalborough, in that part which is
now Dresden. He was an assistant to Capt. John North in surveying land
and laying out lots on the west sideof the Kennebec. He was employed as
a teamster in the building of Fort Halifax in 1756. See chapter on
Settlers and Estates. He married Dorothy call of Dresden. In 1781 he,
with Dummer Sewall and Samuel Linscott, bought the tract of land and
incorporated in 1802 as Chesterville, and moved there in 1782. He died
about 1803. 10 ch.
Wyman Genealogy by John Howard Wyman at http://www.wyman.org:
Were first white inhabitant of Chesterville, Maine abt 1752;first at
Pownalboro [Dresden]; took part in survey of west side of Kennebec 1752
assisting Capt. John North in survey of Pownalboro and Gardiner; a
teamster at the building of Ft. Halifax 1756;1756 a Sergeant in Colonial
service;as of 21 Aug 1758 he and Dorothy living near her parents, (the
Calls had settled on the point between Eastern and Kennebec Rivers in
1739); 12 Oct 1768 theKennebec Proprietors granted him lot 12 at Pond
Town on the north shore of Cobosseecontee, 1781 he sold his land in
Winthrop and took another grant from the Kennebec Proprietors on the
Little Sandy River called Wyman's Plantation (later in 1802 became
Chesterville); left Winthrop 1785.
The History of Winthrop, Maine by Everett S. Stackpole, 1825, pg 37:38:
Lot No. 12 was granted toAbram Wyman 12 Oct. 1768. This is an
irregular lot, the northerly end of the pond bounding it for three
fourths of its length. Wyman's house is believed to have been located on
or near the spot formerly occupied by the dwelling of Thomas H. White,
now owned by Frank H. Hunt. Wyman was a prominent man, chosen highway
surveyor in 1771. He removed to Chesterville in 1781. Nathan Hall's
house stood on this lot, on the south side of the County Road. He was
the son of Preserved Hall of Hallowell. On the ridge a little west of
thehouse of Hall, on or near the spot were stands the old house long
occupied by Mrs. Weston, lived Solomon Stanley, a kinsman of Nathaniel
Stanley of lot No. 19. John Cummings was early on this lot, living where
Thomas H. White once did. He came into town in 1777 and reMained till
his death. He bought the house and eighty acres of the easterly and of
the lot from Solomon Stanley,14 Sept. 1778. Off the western end of this
original lot were sold sixty-five acres, known as the "Porter Lot."
Jonathan Pullen built the house, later owned by Horace Keyes, and lived
there many years.
It is stated by William Harrison Parlin in his Reminiscences that there
was a log house, evidence of its location being visible i his younger
day, which stood "just on this side ofthe lower orchard" [East side].
Probably this was Abram Wyman's first house. When his frame house was
built he located it on the highway, perhaps whereThomas H. White
afterward lived. The first recorded death in Winthrop was that of
Hannah, dau. of Abram Wyman. She was buried probably on this lot and
later several others were laid to rest here. Appearances of graves still
remain, or did before the level of the lake was raised by damming its
outlet. The shore lie of lot No. 12, including indentations extended two
miles. Herare now a large number of summer cottages. "Welsh Point",
jutting into the Great Pond, has some of the finest, and from the
elevation just north of it is one of the most attractive views in
Winthrop. The County Road through the village of East Winthrop runs the
entire length
