The IGI entries for Henry and James suggest that these are the two brothers that left Ireland for Falmouth Maine and sired the Maine McCausland's. This has not been proved and the actual IGI entries have not been investigated. However, the time frame fits and they were recorded in Maine as being brothers. James was one of Gen. George Washington's body guards. (Source History of Kennebec Co. Maine by Kingsbury & Deyo Pub. 1892).

Eldest son, inherited Strabane, Co. Tyrone from his father. No less than twelve times returned to the Irish parliament by the borough of Strabane. In the parliament of 1695 he is entered on the Rolls as "Oliverius Mac Causland, Armiger" and served the office of sheriff for the county of Tyrone in 1687. He appears likewise to have held some military commission, as we find it stated, under "Castlestewart," in Lodge's Peerage of Ireland, that he had been employed upon a mission of importance by Lord Mountjoy and Colonel Lundy.
He was invited by a letter dated 6 Dec 171? to return to Scotland and become Chief of the Clan in Kinbryd, Co. Aryshire (PRONI D1124 and T609).
The following is from Page 106 "Fighters Of Derry" by William Robert Young. London, Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1932
283. Capt. Oliver McCausland, of Strabane, defender. In the list of attainted in James' Dublin Parliament there arc two of this name, viz. Oliver McCausland of Rash, Co. Tyrone, probably the Oliver above, and
284. Andrew McCausland, of Clanaghmore, Co. Tyrone, who was probably, if not an ancestor, closely related to Col. Robert McCausland, of Fruit Hill (Drenagh), the first of the family living there (he died in 1734), who had property near Cappagh, Co. Tyrone. This Robert McCausland was befriended by the Pt. Hon. William Conolly, of Castletown and Limavady, and acquired considerable estate in Co. Deny; hence the Christian name of Conolly borne in subsequent generations of the McCausland family.
The only mention of the name in connection with the siege is Mackenzie's statement that when Lord Mountjoy, as Tyrconnell's representative, was on his way to the city, after the shutting of the gates, to open negotiations for surrender or making of terms, Capt. Oliver McCausland, of Strabane, was employed as a messenger to warn the Corporation of his approach, but (as Graham in his " Ireland Preserved" notes) "although he carried the message, he did not regret that the answer was 'No Surrender,'" and that he served under the command of Col. Mitchelburn at the siege of Derry. In his will, Capt. Oliver McCausland refers to Col. Robert, of Fruit Hill, as cousin while appointing him an executor and legatee.

Lived in Fruithill, near Newtown Limavady, Co. Londonderry (now known as Drenagh). He also had estates in the parish of Cappagh, Co. Tyrone. Under the will of his wife's uncle, the Right Honorable William Conolly of Castetown, Co. Kildare, he inherited considerable property in Co. Derry in the Limavady area. Many of his descendants have retained Conolly as a given name. He was styled his cousin in a will of Capt. Oliver McCausland of Strabane.
"Rentals, accounts etc. between William Conoly and Robert McCausland of Limavady, his agent for 'the manor of Newtownlimavady' by William Conolly. Also the adjoining churchlands of Drumachose, and the separate and distinct Grocers' Proportion, including information on tenants who had thrown up their Limvady farms to go to New England," 1718. PRONI T.2825/C/11/1-18 on LDS 1701052.
William Conolly left his lease for years which he held from the See of Derry to "my agent Robert McCausland Esq. as an acknowledgement for the faithful services he has done me." Thus the church lands of Drumachose, Tamlaght Finlagan and Balteagh, originally leased by Phillips, pased to the McCauslands and became the Drenagh estate set out in the map and survey of 1794. The original house, called Fruithill, was built in the 1730s.

Dear Mary, the earliest entry in our old bible is of Robert McCausland to Alice in 1691. In the same book he listed as marrying Widow Hamilton in 1709.
L. McCausland
"The Phillips estate (at Limavady, the "Lodge", north of the present market yard) was bought by the right Hon. William Conolly, of Castletown, County Kildare, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons. Conolly built and lived in Roe Park, then Daisy Hill, Limavady. He died in 1729, and the plan of wearing linen scarfs at funerals to encourage the linen industry was first observed at his funeral. Under his will Robert McCausland, of Fruit Hill (or Dreenagh) succeeded to considerable estates in County Derry. The McCauslands are of Scottish origin, where the name is often written as MacAuslane. The McCausland family have retained an unbroken connection with Limavady ever since, the present representative of the family being Colonel
Conolly McCausland."

Marcus purchased in 1743 from Richard Babington the whole townland of Mullagh, which was beside the Tamlaght Finlagan church lands. He built some additions to the house and renamed it Daisy Hill, a name it retained into the next century.
Daisy Hill was bought from the McCauslands in 1817 by John Cromie of Portstewart, who renamed it Roe Park.

Streeve Hill is near Drenagh (Fruit Hill) on the northeastern outskirts of Limavady. Frederick bought the whole townland of Streeve from Robinsons in 1743 for £ 422-15-0.
The following maybe refers to Frederick - given that his sons Conolly and Frederick were also ship masters.
Bark John Calvin London, England to San Francisco, CA August 4, 1850 Captain McCausland - 200 days from London, England. On July 17, 1850 in lat. 28N, long. 137W. General Notes: Child - James McCausland
