General Notes: Husband - William Ward

Wife was of a French Huguenot family.

General Notes: Wife - Elizabeth Ward

Was of a French Huguenot family.

General Notes: Child - Luceva Ward

Luceva was a daughter of a French Heugonot family.

John Nelson Montgomery probably met and married Luceva in North Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA, as in 1850 the majority of Luceva's family was counted in the 1850 US Census in North Shenango.

She and John moved to Illinois in 1845 along with John's father and mother and two of John's diblings, to Dayton township, LaSalle County,IL.

She died at the age of 26, leaving a husband, John Nelson Montgomery, and two sons: James Ivor, 4, and William Harper, 2.

Her actual death year is in question since she is shown alive on the enumerated US Census of 1850 dated November 20, 1850, the date her Montgomery Family information was enumerated by the Federal Census taker. However, the date of death shown on the cemetery record of the Brower Cemetery is June 9, 1850, her age having been 26 years, 27 days.

The Brower-Hess Cemetery is located on IL Route 23 about 1/4 mile south of the Montgomery Homestead at Rte 23 and Wedron Road, behind a ranch house built between the cemetery and the highway right of way. Access to the cemetery is by walking around the residence / property immediately to its west.

August 29, 1897; On a business trip to the Meadville / Penn Line, PA area, Luceva's oldest son, J. Ivor, visited Luceva's brother's (Abram's) son, her nephew, William W. Ward, living in New Richmond, PA, with four of his children. New Richmond, PA, is only about 10 miles east of Meadville, PA, which is about 15 miles northeast of the Espyville, PA-area, from which Luceva and John Nelson Montgomery moved to Illinois, in 1846.

August 29, 1897; Luceva's surviving sisters, "Aunt Eleanor" and "Aunt Polly", were 78 and 82 years of age, respectively.

General Notes: Child - Samuel Ward

Samuel was perhaps son of Henry Ward who died & was buried Hingham, Eng.15 May 1642. He possibly came over before 1635, for he had a grant of land on Lower Plain in Hingham in 1636, was a cooper by trade, became afreeman on 9 Mar. 1637, was Representative that year in Nov. and the next in Mar. made town clerk 1646; may have been father of Henry, and perhaps had more children I presume he is the benefactor who gave to Harvard College the island lying off the harbor of Hingham, called Bunkin's ofWard's island, and he may be the same that lived 1658-77 at Charlestown, and died there, 31 Aug. 1682, aged 89, who as Noahdiah Russell in his Diary tells, gave L4. to the College See Geneal. Reg. VII. 57. His widow Frances, who was not his first wife died 10 June 1690, aged 83. [AGenealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before1692, Volume #4, By James Savage]

A Samuel Ward owned estate on Main St., Hingham,Mass., also a street named Ward led from High St. to Cuhing St. & several generations of his decendants lived there.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Ware

There is some question who her parents were:

She may have been the daughter of Jonathan Wight, for in 1764, she joined with other heirs in selling estate of Òtheir father,Ó Jonathan Wight, deceased of Wrentham.
She is probably the same Òwidow MargaretÓ that died at Franklin, Nov. 22, 1807.

Another source has her as the daughter of Robert Ware and Sarah Metcalf.

This information came from many, many sources, and though I have tried, when possible, to get information from original documents or from close descendants, not everything will be completely accurate. Please verify it with other sources. Additions and corrections are appreciated.

General Notes: Husband - Lieutenant Daniel Warner

Daniel probably born after his parents came to America. He went with his father from Hartford to Hadley in 1659. He settled in the part of town that was set off as Hatfield in 1670. Daniel was appointed ensign to the foot company in Hadley, October 7, 1673 and returned a bill for caring for soldiers, May 30, 1679. He was known as Lieutenant Daniel Warner. During the French and Indian Wars he with others signed a letter to the General Court regarding the nearness of the enemy. In May 1667, Daniel was one of those who sent a petition to the General Court asking to be set off as a separate parish or society. The river was a problem for both sides of the river. The church was one one side and crossing the river to go to the house of worship was treacherous. He was an active person in the establishment of Hadley

PRESERVED PURITAN
RICHARD WARREN
ORIGIN: London
MIGRATION: 1620 on Mayflower
FIRST RESIDENCE: Plymouth
ESTATE: In the 1623 Plymouth division of land Richard Warren received an uncertain number of acres (perhaps two) as a passenger on the Mayflower, and five acres as a passenger on the Anne (presumably for his wife and children) [PCR 12:4-6]. In the 1627 Plymouth division of cattle Richard Warren, his wife Elizabeth Warren, Nathaniel Warren, Joseph Warren, Mary Warren, Anna Warren, Sarah Warren, Elizabeth Warren and Abigail Warren were the first nine persons in the ninth company [PCR 12:12]. He was one of the purchasers [PCR 2:177].
In the 25 March 1633 Plymouth tax list Widow Warren was assessed 12s., and in the list of 27 March 1634, 9s. [PCR 1:10, 27].
On 1 July 1633 "Mrs. Warren and Robt. Bartlet" were allowed to mow where they did the previous year, and again 14 March 1635/6 [PCR 1:15, 41].
On 28 October 1633, a grant of Richard Warren's landon which he was required to erect a dwelling, returned to the court "for want of building" and it was regranted to Mr. Ralph Fogg, provided he pay Widow Warren sufficiently for her fence remaining there [PCR 1:18].
On 7 March 1636/7"it is agreed upon, by the consent of the whole Court, that Elizabeth Warren, widow, the relict of Mr. Richard Warren, deceased, shall be entered, and stand, and be purchaser instead of her said husband, as well because that (he dying before he had performed the said bargain) the said Elizabeth performed the same after his decease, as also for the establishing of the lots of lands given formerly by her unto her sons-in-law Richard Church, Robert Bartlett and Thomas Little, in marriage with their wives, her daughters" [PCR 1:54, 2:177].
On 5 May 1640 "Richard Church, Rob[er]te Bartlett, Thomas Little, & Mrs. Elizabeth Warren are granted enlargements at the heads of their lots to the foot of the Pyne Hills, leaving a way betwixt them and the Pyne Hills, for cattle and carts topass" [PCR 1:152].
On 11 June 1653, as the result of a disagreement between Mrs. Elizabeth Warren and her son, Nathaniel, and a petition offered in courtby Mrs. Jane Collier on behalf of her grandchild, Sarah, wife of Nathaniel Warren, the court chose four indifferent men to settle the matter of access to lands [MD 2:64, citing PCLR 2:73].
On 4 March 1673/4 Mary Bartlett, wife of Robert Bartlett, came into this court and owned "that she hath received full satisfaction for whatsoever she might claim as due from the estate of Mistris Elizabeth Warren, deceased, and John Cooke, in the behalf of all her sisters, testified the same before the court; and the court doth hereby settle the remainder of the said estate on Joseph Warren" [PCR 5:139-40].
BIRTH: By about 1578 basedon estimated date of marriage.
DEATH: Plymouth 1628. ("This year died Mr. Richard Warren, who hath been mentioned before in this book, and was an useful instrument; and during his life bore a deep share in the difficulties and troublesof the first settlement of the plantation of New-Plymouth" [Morton 85].
MARRIAGE: By about 1609 Elizabeth _____; she died at Plymouth on 2 October 1673, aged about 90 (probably an exaggeration) [PCR 8:35]. (Elizabeth's maiden name has been given as "March" in many sources, without documentation).

General Notes: Husband - John Warren

John Warren, called tobacconist and cardmaker, was an early settler of Exeter, NH, moved to Boston 1668 where he died in July 1677. He married first, at Exeter, 21 Oct. 1650, Deborah Wilson (died 26 June 1668). John Warren married second, at Boston about 1669, Elizabeth (?Royal) (Barlow) Coombs, widow of John Coombs (died May 1668. At the death of her first husband, Thomas Barlow, in 1661, her only surviving child, Sarah Barlow (born 1659, died 1678) was heir to the Barlow estate: land, house, shop and wharf, of which her mother had her thirds, use and improvement until her daughter Sarah came of age or married. By her second marriage to John Coombs, the widow Barlow had three surviving children named Coombs: Elizabeth, John and Mary. He left her only a very small personal estate in 1668 but his widow still had the use and improvement of the Barlow estate and her thirds to maintain her family, and there was evidence that she had a small business of her own in dry goods. When she married, third, John Warren, as his second wife, he had the use and improvement of the Barlowe estate with her, since her daughter Sarah Barlow was only ten years old, At the time of her marriage to John Warren, she had an inventory taken of her personal estate and before she died in Janusary 1671/2 advised him how she wished it distributed. This he presented to the court on 2 February and declared his willingness to fulfill her desires. "And the said Warren is ordered to have in the right of his wife what she was to have till the daughter came of age. . . . as per former Court orders" (Suffolk Probate 7:193) Therefore, it would appear that the Barlow and Coombs children were living with the Warren family. Warren had only one child by his second marriage. John Warren married third, Elizabeth Danson, after January 1671/2 but by early 1675 (three years later than Mr. Manwaring estimated. John Warren, Sr. died at Boston, July 1677. His will (Suffolk Probate 6:191) gives to beloved wife Elizabeth all my estate, she to bring up my son Nathaniel and my daughter Abigail until they be disposed of in marriage which is in according to the contract betwixt us before marriage (not found); to son Joshua the engine with which I cut tobacco; to the rest of the children (unnamed) 2s each; wife sole executrix; as "for the shop only, and not the land I give unto son Thomas to remove at his pleasure"; dated 10 July 1677, proved 31 July 1677. Note: the shop referred to he built on his wife Barlow's property.
