rev. h.n. seaver, died athis residence in highland last sunday. he was 69 years the 29th of june. a native of new york, he was a popular minister of the methodist church, coming to kansas in 1856. during the war he was a sutler of the 7th kansas. he was born inoneida county, n.y. june 29th 1810, the youngest of 5 brothers, the 2 older surviving him. his father was a veteran of the revolutionary army, his mother died only a few years since, upwards of 90 years, one of the last rev. pensioners.survivors are his widow anna (thomas) seaver, a son, beverly a. seaver, two daughters, mrs. ellen e. herrick, postmistress at troy and mrs. charles f. jennings,(jennie seaver) joplin, mo.
rev. h.n. seaver was a native of new england, having been born in augusta, maine in june 1810. he removed to the state of new york, where for many years he was a minister in the methodist church being located in elmira as presiding elder for some time. he came to kansas in 1856, in the company of gen. bayless & several others & was one of the original proprietors & locaters of the town site of highland, doniphan co, kansas where he lived until his death in july 1879. he was a member of the first state legislature, 1861.

Many of Seth Severance's descendants will not agree that this Ephraim Severance is Seth's father.
My reasons for including him are:
1. Death Certificate for Seth's son, George Edward Severance, lists Seth's place of birth as Dexter. The informant was , George's wife, Flora Chubbuck Severance. She was born in 1868 and may have known Seth Severance.
2. The 1820 Census lists Ephraim Severance in Dexter/ Dover Maine.
The 1850 Census lists Ephraim and wife Jamina living in Kilmarnock, near Dexter.
3. Seth and Maria Sweet Severance;s last child was named Jamina Severance. She was called "Jennie"
Flora Chubbuck Severance told Lucille Severance Carroll that Seth's father came from NH to Maine. She said he came with a brother. The Above Ephraim Severance was born in Bradford Center , NH, son of Abel Severance and Martha Bruce.

He married Sarah Jane MONDAY OR MUNDY BEF 1853/1854, probably daughter of Lewis Brewer Mundie of St David Parish, Charlotte county, New Brunswick, Canada.
He married Maria or Mariah Louise SWEET ABT 1865, daughter of George SWEET and MaryWife of George SWEET. Maria was born 1841 in Monticello, Aroostook, Maine,or Wakefield New Brunswick and died after 1910.After Seth's death, which was after 1885,because Seth and Maria are shown residing in Kossouth, Washington Cty, Maine. Seth is buried in Kossouth ME in an old abandoned cemetery.His headstone was placed there by his grandson Seth lawrence Severance and his wife, Mary Mosely Severance. Mary Mosely Severance contributed to the Severance Genealogy by David Dewsnap.

After his parents emigrated from Germany in 1873 with daughter Camilla & sons Alexander & Rudolph, they first went to live in Hackensack, NJ where he was born. The family later moved to St Clair Co., MI where Maude, Reginald & Edith were born.
Nothing is known of his marriage to Lillie Rhyndress as family had no idea he had been married before.
He started apprenticing in a bakery. He wanted a change so decided to go to Canada. He settled in Saskatchewan & met Eva & fell madly in love. They married & raised their large family in Saskatchewan where they farmed raising dairy cows & sheep.
After Eva died, he met & corresponded with Laura in Vancouver. They were married & along with Esther "Dixie", Violet "Myke", Henry "Hank" & Laura's daughter Annie, they bought a home in Caughland, near Langley, B.C., where they lived for about a year.
Then they moved to Startup, WA, where he had a friend that was a Seventh Day Adventist that lived in Startup, WA, & he became an American citizen again & stayed with Mr. Sulzly (a retired Seventh Day Adventist minister) for less than a year. They later bought their own home in Sultan, WA.
Just before he died, he went to Denver to seek medical treatment, but died before he returned home. It is believed that Dixie & Myke retrieved his body that was sent home by train from Denver.
He served on the school board for many years in Saskatchewan.

Biddeford - Pauline Walls Segee, 84, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Southern Maine Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1924 in Millinocket, the daughter of Howard and Angeline (Blanchard) Walls. She graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1942 and Farmington Normal School class of 1945, trained to be a teacher, and taught at Kittery for 1 year. On July 12, 1946 she married the man of her dreams, Merrill "Bud" Douglas Segee in Lincoln. Polly was very active in her community. While raising three children, she was elected to serve two terms on the school board, appointed as the Baptist Church Sunday School Superintendent for six years, and organized and started Pack 57, a local Boy Scout troop. She also became a Cub Scout den leader, Brownie, and Girl Scout leader. She helped her children earn Eagle Scout, Curved Bar, and Life Award. In 1979 she started the Millinocket Town Museum and eventually accumulated over 1,200 artifacts, among her other duties within the Town Museum was arranging the monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers. Another favorite activity was working in local, state, and national politics, always the Democrat. Writing was a strong suit, and she wrote articles for the Millinocket Journal and as secretary to the East Millinocket Snowmobile Club for 10 years, she submitted a monthly article to the Maine Snowmobile Club Newsletter. In 1962, she traveled to the University of Maine - Orono to complete her 4th year of college and earn a B. S. degree in Education. In 1964 she went back to teaching and taught math and health to 8th grade students for 20 years before retiring in 1984. Since she and Bud had paid for all of the expenses to put their children through college, they decided to enjoy retirement by traveling around the world to many places and faraway countries including China, Japan, Australia, and Brazil. Polly is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bud, of Hollis; her daughter Angela Fay Laustsen and her husband Kenneth of Waterville; her sons, David Segee and his wife Joyce of Hollis, and Scott Segee and his wife Liz Wright of Portsmouth, NH; a sister, Maxine Clark of Millinocket; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sjulander and her husband Mark, Kathryn Lea Laustsen, Daniel Segee, George Segee-Wright, James Segee-Wright; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Sjulander; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by six siblings: Marie Howard, Charlotte Brown, Dorothy Murray, Pat Walls, Donald Walls, and Phillip Walls. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket with the Rev.
