Murideric, Lord of Vitrey
Murideric was "very young" in 509 when his father was murdered by Clovis I
.
Murideric revolted against Thierry (I), a son of Clovis (I), who killed hi
m.
Murideric married Perthois and they had the following sons:
* St. Gondulfus
* Duke Bodegisil (I) who died in 581. Bodigisil married first to Palat
ina, a daughter of Gallus Magnus, a Gallo-Roman Senator and Bishop of Troy
es (elected 562). Bodigisil married second to Sancha, a Gascow.
General Notes: Wife - Arthemia
Alias:<ALIA> /Perthois/
General Notes: Child - St Gondulfus
St. Gondulfus was Bishop of Tongres (consecrated in 599), Governor of Mars
eilles in 581 and Mayor of the Palace to Theibert (I).
St. Gondulfus is almost certainly the father of Duke Bodegisil (II); see F
.L. Weis, Ancestral Roots, Baltimore, 1999, 190-6. Other earlier works inc
luding George Andrews Moriarty: The Plantagenet Ancestry of King Edward I
II and Queen Philippa, Mormon Pioneer Genealogical Society, Salt Lake Cit
y, Utah, 1985, pages 5 and 241, show St. Gondulfus' brother Duke Bodegis
il (I) as the father of Duke Bodegisil (II).
While it may seem strange to us to-day for a "saint" and a "bishop" to ha
ve had children, this was not the case in early mediæval times. St. Gondul
fus was a political figure; he was Governor of Marseilles and Mayor of t
he Palaceand was not consecrated until quite an old man in 599. As wel
l, it was very unusual among the early Franks for a son to have the same n
ame as his father as would be the case if Bodegisil (I) had been the fath
er of Bodegisil (II). The same name was used to indicate a close kinship s
uch as the uncle and nephew relationship here.
St. Gondulfus had a son:
* Duke Bodegisil (II)

Blanche of Artois
(1248 - 2 May 1302) was the queen regent of Navarre from 1274 to 1284, and later became Countess of Lancaster by marrying into the English royal family. She was the daughter of Count Robert I of Artois and Matilda of Brabant. From 1274 to 1284 she ruled Navarre and the counties of Brie, Champagne, Troyes et Meaux for her daughter, Joan I of Navarre (ruled 1274 to 1305).
Family
Blanche's paternal grandparents were Louis VIII of France and Blanche of Castile. Her maternal grandparents were Henry II, Duke of Brabant and Marie of Hohenstaufen, daughter of Philip of Swabia.
First marriage
Blanche married Henry I of Navarre (ruled 1270-1274) who died in 1274. They had two children:
· Theobald - d. 1270 fell from a battlement at the castle of Estella
· Joan I of Navarre, who became Queen regnant of Navarre and Queen consort of France
Second marriage
After Henry's death, Blanche married Edmund Crouchback (1245-1296), in 1276, an English prince who was a younger son of Henry III and Eleanor of Provence. Edmund was also a widower, his young wife having died the same year as Blanche's husband.
Edmund and Blanche had four children:
· Thomas Plantagenet, 2nd Earl of Lancaster (b. 1278)
· Henry Plantagenet, 3rd Earl of Lancaster (b. 1281)
· John Plantagenet, Lord of Beaufort (c. 1282 - 1327)

LDS proxy temple ordinances are in the LDS IGI from temple records.
"Emigrant Ancestors..." by Duane Josephson, 1995, gives a quote, not
clear from what source, which says "Just how Robert wrote his name in
England, we do not know, but it is supposed he wrote it as he did when he
signed it to deeds drawn up in Salem, in 1634, viz.: 'Robert Goodell'." It
is spelled the same in his will but shows it with an "X". In the different
publications of immigration records, two spell it "Goodale", and Hotten
spells it "Goodall".
LDS Ancestral File has an entry of Robert Goodale, born 16 Aug 1601 of
Ipswich, Suffolk, Eng., son of Robert Goodale and Jane Artys, wife
Margaret Lazenby. It shows the father Robert is son of John and
Elizabeth, and grandson of Thomas. Another entry shows a Robert, born
1604, son of John and Elizabeth, spouses Joanne Artys, Catherine, and
Margaret Lazenby. Then there is a Richard, born 29 Jun 1594, son of John Goodale and Bridget Portler with wives Dorothy Whiterent, Catherine Killiam, Margaret Lazenby and Katherine, probably a mixing up of entries.
The LDS IGI has many entries in the British section which are probably meant for him, one christened 16 Aug 1601, Dennington, Suffolk, England, son of Robert Goodell and Joan Artys, form submission,
1553582 which is a patron family group sheet. LDS proxy temple ordinances are 1951, 1952 and sealing to parents 24 Jun 1954 SLAKE. There is one of Robert Goodale with spouse Joan E. Artys, with LDS proxy ordinances 26 May 1951, 27 Mar 1952 SLAKE "Emigrant Ancestors...." shows him with christening 16 Aug 1607, Dennington, Suffolk, England, son of Robert Goodale and Joane Artys.
Hotten's "Original Lists..." says he was 30 when he came with his wife Katherin, 28, and three children on the Elizabeth which sailed from Ipswich, England, "the last of Aprill 1634".
Savage's "Genealogical Dictionary...." lists Robert and Catherine of Salem and also a Richard of Newbury with wife Dorothy.
There is an account in "Gen. Gleanings in Eng." by H. F. Waters, (1907 or 1969?), Vol II, pg 1403, of a 1602 will of Elizabeth Goodale of Dennyngton, widow, in which she names sons George, John and Robert, a daughter Alice and her husband Henry Kilham, a daughter Margaret and her husband, William Downing, and sons William and Thomas. The source is given as "Arch. Suff. (Ipswich), B. 38, L. 478." A note following the abstract of the will says "[Elizabeth Goodale the testator was the mother-in-law of Henry Killam, whose will is given below, and grandmother of Austen Killam the emigrant to New England. She was buried 5 March, 1601-2.
Of this family was also Robert Goodale who came from Ipswich, Eng., to Salem in 1634. The late Mr. Somerby procured for Abner C. Goodell, Jr., Esq., a large collection of wills relating to the Goodale family in Suffolk and Norfolk, which the writer hopes to utilize in the coming summer, during an extensive search of the parishes in the above named counties. - Walter K. Watkins.]"
Duane Josephson's account contains the will of Robert Goodell. It mentions his wife without name but she was called Margaret in the inventory and appraisal. Only one child was mentioned, daughter
Elizabeth Bennett and a grandchild, John Smith. Duane Josephson's book says Hotten says the date of his second marriage was 30 Aug 1647 and her name was Larraby, Loganby, or Lazenby, of
Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. I couldn't find this in Hotten's "Original Lists..." I searched all Duane's sources except three family histories, "Goodell-Goodale Forebears" by Helena M. Goodale Hargrave, "The Goodale Genealogy" by G.W. Goodale, 1903, and "The Ancestry of Lydia Harmon", by W.G. Davis. It looks as if 1647 may be the wrong year as Torrey's "New England Marriages..." says "made marr. cont." 30 Aug1669.
Hotten's "Original Lists...." says the children who came with Robert and Katherine from England were Mary, 4, Abraham, 2, and Isaac, 1/2. "A Gen. Dict. of First Settlers..." by James Savage, gives the same children and says they had a child baptized (in Salem) 31 May 1640, Jacob 9 Jan 1642 and Hannah 6 Aug 1645. Duane Josephson's account says "Goodell -Goodale Forebears" says there was also Zachariah and Sarah. The LDS Ancestral File shows a Nehemiah, who is listed in Savage as living in
Lynn, but not as son of Robert. He probably doesn't belong in this family.
Duane Josephson's account says (from Hargrave): Goodelle is the French origin of our family name and the spelling is yet found in Paris and in a number of smaller towns in France. Later, although we do not know just when, one of our ancestors emigrated to Scotland, and about 1580, so tradition says, a Goodale family moved from Scotland to England (London). In those days very little attention was given to the spelling of names, and during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, there was no fixed authority for the spelling of either 'proper' names or surnames. When 'Goodelle' became anglicized, it appeared 'Goodell,' then 'Goodale' and later 'Goodall' in the interior towns. These three forms are found in the
coast countries of Suffolk and Norfolk, England. ..... In 1589, when Shakespeare was twenty-five years of age and had become one of the proprietors of Blackfriars Theatre, London, he had among his
professional companions (also a proprietor) one Baptiste Goodell, uncle to Robert, who made his first appearance with Shakespeare before Queen Elizabeth in 'Henry VI.
"John Smith's record says: 'The father of Robert Goodell lived in Suffolk County, England, and was a small landed proprietor and cultivator, employing his capital and labor in various modes which grow out of the occupation of lands.' Robert's new occupation in America was, like his father's, a farmer. He took no part in the witchcraft cruelties of Salem, and was a man of piety, of education and great strength of character. He had considerable wealth and was a helper in all important matters. From Robert to the present day there have been many Goodells, Goodales, and Goodalls connected with the Evangelical Churches, notably the Congregational, as ministers and missionaries. They are scattered over the country in nearly every state and territory, while others are at rest in the far distant missionary lands."
Duane Josephson's account goes on with "Davis, says "The first record of the Goodales in America is at Salem, Mass., where they settled at Great Cove in the North Fields. The spring, so often mentioned in the early records, in what is now called Liberty Hill Park, was on Robert Goodale's farm and was known for the first half-century of Salem's history as 'Goodale's Spring' ...... In 1636 and in 1638, he received grants of twenty acres each in that portion of the town which became known as Salem
Village, and he gradually acquired by purchase similar grants made to other early settlers, until he was the owner of a tract of land on Bald Hill comprising four hundred and eighty acres, which was confirmed to him by the town grant on '7th, 11th mo. 1651'. He probably moved to this new property at about that time, and as opportunity offered, disposed of his Great Cove Farm, deeding the house and a portion of the land to his son-in-law, John Smith, in 1658. Another lot was conveyed to Nigholas
Manning in 1667, and a third conveyance was probably made to John Orne, who owned a part of the property, hitherto conveyed, in 1684. "Goodale seems to have devoted his life to the development of his large grant for the benefit of his sons and daughters, to whom, as they married, he gave generous acreages as wedding gifts, thus creating a family settlement about his own homestead. Although his clear, firm handwriting would seem to indicate a good education, he took no part in local or broader governmental affairs, and his name seldom appears in the records in any capacity except as plaintiff or defendant in suits based on the ownership of his land and stock."
"Robert died between 12 Oct 1682 and 27 Jun 1683, the dates of the signing and proving of his will, which follows: I Robert Goodell being now aged and weake in body, as alsoe my wife and my daughter Elizabeth Bennett hath taken care of me and therefor my will & desire is and I doe will & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Bennett & my grandchild John Smith, my house and orchard & all the meddowes that I now possess with the pastures which is about eight acres upland be it more or lesse, all which house and land and meddowes my daughter Elizabeth Bennett and my Grandchild, John Smith, shall Injoy after the lease, or terms, that is now lett for, yearly as the wife of the abovesaid Robert Goodell hath lett it for which is to the value of twenty eight two; and after my daughter Elizabeth's decease, the whole lands shal be my grandchild's John Smiths. In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal.
Robert Goodell X his marke and seale."

General Notes: Wife - Joan Fitzalan Arundel
Joan Fitzalan, Countess of Hereford, Countess of Essex and Countess of Northampton (1347- 7 April 1419), was the wife of the 7th Earl of Hereford, 6th Earl of Essex and 2nd Earl of Northampton. She was the mother of Mary de Bohun, the first wife of Henry of Bolingbroke who later reigned as King Henry IV, and Eleanor de Bohun, Duchess of Gloucester. She was the maternal grandmother of King Henry V.
In 1400, she gave the order for the beheading of the Earl of Huntingdon in revenge for the part he had played in the execution of her brother, the 11th Earl of Arundel.
The estates which comprised Joan's large dowry made her one of the principal landowners in Essex, where she exercised lordship, acting as arbitrator and feoffee in property transactions.
Family
Lady Joan Fitzalan was born in 1347 at Arundel Castle, Sussex, one of seven children, and the eldest daughter of Richard Fitzalan, 10th Earl of Arundel and his second wife Eleanor of Lancaster. Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Fitzalan, 9th Earl of Arundel and Alice de Warenne, and her maternal grandparents were Henry, 3rd Earl of Lancaster and Maud Chaworth.
[edit] List of siblings
Richard Fitzalan, 11th Earl of Arundel (1346- 21 September 1397 Tower Hill, Cheapside, London), married firstly Elizabeth de Bohun, sister of Humphrey de Bohun, by whom he had seven children, and secondly Philippa Mortimer. He was beheaded on charges of high treason against King Richard II of England.
John Fitzalan 1st baron of Arundel, 1st Baron Maltravers (1351-16 December 1379), married Eleanor Maltravers, by whom he had issue. He drowned in the Irish Sea, having been shipwrecked after defeating the French off the Cornish coast.
Alice Fitzalan (1350- 17 March 1416), married Thomas Holland, 2nd Earl of Kent, by whom she had issue.
Thomas Arundel Archbishop of Canterbury (1352- 19 February 1414)
Mary Fitzalan (died 29 August 1396), married John Le Strange, 4th Baron Strange of Blackmere, by whom she had issue, including Ankaret Le Strange who married Richard Talbot, 4th Baron Talbot. These were the parents of John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury
Eleanor Fitzalan (1356- before 1366)
Joan had a half-brother from her father's first marriage to Isabel le Despenser:
Edmund of Arundel (1327- after 1377), he was bastardised by his parents annulment. He married Sybil Montagu, by whom he had two daughters.
Joan had two uterine half-siblings from her mother's first marriage to John de Beaumont, 2nd Lord Beaumont (died 14 April 1342):
Henry de Beaumont, 3rd Lord Beaumont (4 April 1340- 17 June 1369), married as her first husband Margaret de Vere (died 15 June 1398), by whom he had issue.
Matilda de Beaumont (died July 1367), married Hugh de Courtney.
Marriage and issue
Sometime after 9 September 1359, Joan married Humphrey de Bohun, one of the most powerful noblemen in the realm. His titles included 7th Earl of Hereford, 6th Earl of Essex, 2nd Earl of Northampton, and he was the hereditary Constable of England. He was the son of William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth de Badlesmere. Their marriage united two of the most prominent noble families in the kingdom; an alliance which was further strengthened by her elder brother Richard's marriage to Humphrey's sister, Elizabeth.
Together Humphrey and Joan produced two daughters, whom upon the death of their father, divided his vast estates between them:
Eleanor de Bohun (c.1360- 3 October 1399), co-heiress of her father. In 1376 she married Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester, the youngest son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault. The marriage produced five children, including Anne of Gloucester. Eleanor died as a nun at Barking Abbey.
Mary de Bohun (1369- 4 June 1394), co-heiress of her father. On 27 July 1380 she married Henry of Bolingbroke, who would later be crowned King Henry IV. She died before he ascended the throne. The marriage produced six children including King Henry V of England.
Widowhood
Joan was left a widow in January 1373 at the age of about 25 or 26, and she chose not to remarry. Her two daughters were made wards of Edward III. Sometime after her husband's death, she received from King Edward the manor of Langham, which she held until her own death, among the numerous other manors she owned. The numerous estates which comprised Joan's large dowry ensured that she was one of the principal landowners in Essex. This placed her at the hub of a powerful structure of landed country gentry, who acted as her advisers and officers; Joan in turn acted as "arbitrator, feoffee in property transactions, and intercessor with the royal government".
During the Peasant's Revolt in 1381, some of Joan's manors were sacked by the rebels; this did not deter Joan from expanding and industrialising her lands after the uprising had been put down, having done much to encourage the dyeing and fulling of woollen cloth on some of her estates such as Saffron Walden.
In the Public Record Office, London, there is an extant document, written in Latin, which records the payment to Joan by John of Gaunt for the maintenance of her younger daughter Mary after the latter's marriage until she came of age in 1384.
A member of St. Helen's religious guild in Colchester, Joan founded chantries and was also a patron of Walden Abbey, having donated money for relics, vessels, vestments, and the construction of new buildings. She is described in the State Rolls as having been a "great benefactress" to the monasteries of Essex.
Execution of John Holland, 1st Duke of Exeter
In 1397, Joan's brother Richard Fitzalan, 11th Earl of Arundel and a Lord Appellant was executed on Tower Hill for his opposition to King Richard II of England. The king's half-brother John Holland, 1st Duke of Exeter, Earl of Huntingdon accompanied him to the scaffold, as one of King Richard's representatives. Less than three years later in 1400, when Holland joined a conspiracy to murder the new king Henry IV, and was captured near Joan's principal residence Pleshy Castle in Essex, he was turned over to her for punishment. Described as having possessed a "stern character", she showed him no mercy, and promptly gave orders for his decapitation, after having summoned the children of her dead brother to witness the execution. Following the beheading, which was performed without benefit of a trial, she ordered that Holland's severed head be raised on the end of a pike, which was placed upon the battlements of Pleshy Castle.
Henry IV rewarded Joan for her services on behalf of the Crown, by granting her custody of forfeited lands and properties. When Henry died in 1413, Joan's grandson Henry V followed suit; therefore up until her death in 1419, a large number of forfeited estates had come under her control.
Death
Lady Joan Fitzalan died on 7 April 1419 and was buried with her husband in Walden Abbey, which she had previously endowed.
