. "Mayflower" George SOULE was born 1593/1600 in of Eckington, Worchester, England, and died 22 JAN 1678/1679 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Ma. He was the son of 4. Thomas SOULE and 5. Mary IDDENDEN.
Plymouth, Massachesetts. She was the daughter of 6. Sylvester BECKETT and 7. Elizabeth HILL.
In a deposition dated 8th March 1705/6, John Soule swore he was "about Seventy foure years" of age. By deed dated 30th December 1674, Moses Simmons in "consideration of a marriage heretofore consummated between John Soule of Duxbury and my eldest daughter, Rebecca" gave John land in Middleborough.
The undated [probably ?1675-1678] settlement of the estate of Samuel Sampson mentions the widow Easter Sampson "is towards marriage with John Soule."
The will of Samuel Nash of Duxbury dated 11th August 1677 names deceasedgrandson Samuel Samson\Sampson's two sons Samuel and Ichabod.
On 5th March 1683/4 Samuel Sampson, son of Samuell Sampson, deceased, chose John Soule to be his guardian.
On 31st July 1695 John Soule of Duxbury deeded land to son Aaron Soule of Duxborough. On 17th May 1698 he mentions sons Benjamin and James in a deed. John Soule died intestate and Easter Soul, widow, was appointed to administer his estate 14th November 1707. His three daughters of their heirs proposed division of the residuary real estate among them since their father "in his lifetime settled all his sons portions in land by deed" and they, the daughters, received but one cow. The settlement of 6th March 1707/8 was signed by John and Rachel Cobb, Edmond and Rebecca Weston and Adam Wright on behalf of his children born to his wife, Sarah deceased.

"Simons, Orrawell, first counselor to Bishop Fairbanks, of Payson, Utah, was born April 21, 1821, at Alexander, Grafton county, New Hampshire, the son of Aaron Simons and Abigail Buell. He joined the Church in Ohio, married Martha Dixon in 1846, at Kirtland, Ohio, and resided in the later place till April, 1854, when he and family started for Utah. After arriving in the Valley, they settled in Spanish Fork, where they spent the first winter in a fort which was built to protect the settlers against the Indians. In the spring of 1855 they settled at Payson, where they have resided ever since. In 1876 Bro. Simons attended the Centennial Exposition at Philadelphia and visited relatives and friends in the East before returning home. Bro. Simons was a very active man, both ecclesiastically and otherwise. For many years he acted as a Ward teacher and took an active part in the erection of public buildings; he was also a successful fruitraiser and farmer. His fellow-citizens entrusted him with a number of local offices. Thus he served eight years as mayor of Payson. Besides Martha Dixon, he married two other wives, namely, Jane Tenny and Catherine Bawlden, by whom he became the father of twenty children. He served as first counselor to Bishop Fairbanks, of Payson, from 1862 to 1869. In the early fifties he filled a mission to the Eastern States. Bro. Simons died at Payson Oct. 13, 1900."

"Orrawell and his parents lived in Alexandria until 1832 when they moved to Lower Canada. After six years, they returned to New Hampshire.
In 1840 the family moved to Mentor in Ohio, near Kirtland, where Orrawell met and married Martha Dixon. They lived in the Dixon home to care for Martha's parents. The Dixons had been baptized into the LDS Church in 1837.
In 1853, a Mormon missionary visited the family and after hearing the gospel, Orrawell was baptized. The two families decided to go to California and raise stock. They left in May 1854 and traveled to Rock Island, Illinois, where they stopped to rest.(*see footnote 1)
While there, Charles Dixon, age 80, fell and died.(*see footnote 2)
The family continued their journey via Council Bluffs to the Salt Lake Valley. After a brief rest, they went on to Spanish Fork where their oldest son was born. They settled in Payson, living in the fort.
Orrawell's business included several trips back east to bring teams and wagons of merchandise for the community. He also rebuilt a gristmill, handled lumber, tanned hides and raised livestock. He built a flour mill in Dixie as part of a mission and later built other mills, schools, and other public buildings.
He served in bishoprics several times, was a councilman, mayor, and director of two manufacturing companies. He was active in the church and community all his life. He served a mission in the Eastern States.
He was six feet two and weighed 230 lbs., and was very strong. He died of paralysis at the age of 80."

Children
General Notes: Husband - Joseph Wightman
Joseph Wightman was a pioneer to Utah in 1862 in the Isaac A. Canfield Company (see http://www.lds.org/churchhistory/library/pioneerdetails/0,15791,4018-1-28007,00.html -- click here). Prior to that time he lived in Kirtland, Ohio.
He was a farmer, merchant, and a butcher in Payson.
"JOSEPH WIGHTMAN was born December 17, 1848 at Kirtland, Lake Co., Ohio. He was the fourth of ten children, and the oldest son of Charles Billings Wightman (b. 1815 in New York, d. 1895 in Payson, Utah) and Mary Ann Dixon (b. 1823 in Canada, d. 1903 in Payson, Utah). He was named for his grandfather, who died in Kirtland five years before Joseph was born and is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the Kirtland Temple. Joseph Wightman married Emily Johnson on 25 July 1869, in Salt Lake City, when he was 20 and she was almost 16. Emily (b. 1853 in Salt Lake City, d. 1926 in Payson) was the daughter of pioneers Philo Johnson (1814-1896) and Experience Almeda ("Speedy") Brown Ellsworth Johnson (1820-1896). Her father was one of the original 143 pioneers who came with Brigham Young in 1847. Joseph and Emily received their endowments and were sealed for time and eternity in the Endowment House in Salt Lake on October 21, 1872. In the 1870 census of Payson, Joseph "WHITEMAN", 22, was listed as a farmer. Real property was listed valued at $300 and personal property, $150. His wife Emily was 17. His older sister Mary E. Daley, her husband Matthew, and their two children were listed just before Joseph and Emily. The WM. C. "WHITEMAN" family were listed two families after, followed by his Uncle Christopher Dixon's family (indicating that they were all near neighbors).
In 1898 Joseph Wightman constructed a two-story building at 80 South Main Street in Payson, attached to a building built in 1891 by his relative, Orrawell Simons. The Wightman building was first occupied by Joseph Wightman's meat and grocery store. He had built it on the site of a small meat market he had previously owned. In 1902 he leased the business to Charles C.F. Dixon, and in 1905 sold out to his son Philo Wightman. Philo and his young family lived in the upper rooms while their home was under construction. Joseph was active in civic affairs. He was Payson city marshall in the 1887-88 term replacing Henry Fairbanks who resigned. He was also on the city council in the 1900-01 term. Joseph and Emily were also active in the Church. They sent their son Wayland on a mission from 1906 to 1908.
Emily Johnson Wightman died 18 June 1926, at age 72. Following Emily's death, Joseph remarried on 14 (or 20?) September 1927 in the Salt Lake Temple, sealed for time only, to a childless Santaquin widow, Mary Ann Simpson Stickney Boyle (1849-1934). He was 78 and she was 77. She was born in Malmo, Sweden as Maria Anna Simonsson, later anglicized. Joseph died July 22, 1930, and was buried in Payson Cemetery, next to his wife Emily, and close to his and Emily's parents and near many of their brothers and sisters. His obituary follows:
OX-TEAM PIONEER DIES AT PAYSON Payson, Utah, July 23. "Joseph Wightman, a former merchant of Payson, died at the family residence (Santaquin), Tuesday (July 22, 1930) from infirmities incident to old age (he was 81). He was born Dec. 17, 1848 at Kirtland Ohio, the son of Charles B. and Mary Dixon Wightman. He crossed the plains by ox team in 1862, locating in Payson. He served in the Black Hawk Indian war. He was in the Mercantile business for 20 years, retiring from business in 1910. He was active in civic affairs and served as city councilman and marshal. He married Miss Emily Johnson, who preceded him in death four years ago. He has lived in Santaquin since his marriage three years ago to Mrs. Mary Simmonson Wightman, who survives. Three of his ten children survive: Philo C. and Wayland Wightman, Payson, and William D. Wightman, Salt Lake; also 37 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. May Wellman, Salt Lake; Mrs. M.J. Morrell, Montana, and Mrs. Mary Daley, Payson. The body may be viewed Thursday at the Deseret Mortuary and Friday at the home of Wayland Wightman, previous to the funeral services, which will be held at 2 p.m. in the Second ward chapel. Bishop John F. Olson will conduct the funeral. Burial will be in Payson City Cemetery."

He worked as a blacksmith in his youth, and later took up farming.
"Morford Throckmorton was a Democrat and one of the pioneers of the M.E. Church. His home was a Christian home where God was daily worshiped and was ever open to his ministers. Every member of his family came into the M.E. church and became not merely nominal members but zealous workers in the activities of the congregation. PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF ARIZONA (1901), p. 461-462:
H. P. WIGHTMAN
"Among the young business men of promise who are helping to build up a permanent prosperity for Pima, none is held in higher esteem, nor have any brighter prospects than Mr. Wightman. Engaged in an occupation for which there is invariably a demand, he is conducting the largest and the pioneer drug industry in the town, and has won a large and ever-increasing patronage from all those who appreciate correct business methods and a sincere desire to please.
The early associations of Mr. Wightman are centered around Payson, Utah, where he was born in 1871, a son of W. C. and Lucretia J. (Pepper) Wightman, natives respectively of New York and Quincy, Ill. In the pursuit of an education he attended the public schools and what is now the University of Utah, later graduating from the department of pharmacy, Northwestern University, of Chicago. As a field for future effort he wisely selected Pima, locating here immediately after his graduation. Armed with his pharmacy certificate and a knowledge of the jewelry business which he had learned in Salt Lake City, he had at his command occupations readily combined and of a substantial nature. His drug interests were carried on in connection with his brother, Dr. L. E. Wightman, and in the jewelry business he carried a complete line of things in connection therewith, and ran a general repair shop. In 1898 he bought out his brother's share in the business and at the time they were occupying the store originally owned by the doctor. In 1898 H. P. Wightman erected the fine brick store, necessitated by the increase of trade, and it is stocked with the largest and most complete drug supply in the Gila valley.
September 18, 1899, Mr. Wightman married Maud Sims, a daughter of S. J. and Susan Sims, the former of whom is a prominent merchant and contractor, and one of the very early settlers of Pima. He is prominent in the church, and is stake superintendent of the Sunday-school. Mrs. Wightman is the fifth daughter of the family. Though not active in local politics Mr. Wightman believes in the government of the Republican party. However, he would invariably vote for the man best qualified to fill the position. With his brother, Dr. Wightman, he is interested in mining in the San Carlos strip, and in this connection has been fairly successful. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is assistant stake secretary of the Sunday-school."

Warren County Local History by Dallas Bogan
After the peace treaty with the Indians (Treaty of Greenville) in 1795, settlers began to trickle in. Some of the men and families that entered Deerfield Township in 1796 were: Joseph Coddington, Moses Kitchel, Jeremiah Morrow, Thomas Espy and John Parkhill. The next few years saw John Meeks, Robert Witham, John Bigham, Stephen Bowyer, etc.
A church built just west of Muddy Creek, near the Butler County line had the names of John Steward, T.T. Brown and Robert Witham recorded as first members.
The History of Warren County Ohio; Part IV Township Histories; Deerfield Township by Louis F. Coleman, 1882
Robert Witham settled about 1798 on the eastern half of Section 28; he was the ancestor of many families of Withams now found throughout the township.
