Any unsourced data has been gathered from various, and not necessarily reliable, sources. I know there are some duplications due to missing dates, but I am updating and correcting this as often as possible. So if you find errors/omissions/duplications, please let me know. The concept here is backwards to the norm, in that I'm entering everything I find, and gradually authenticating what I can. At the very least, I figure it might give others an idea of where to head as they search for their own authenticating data.

Millinocket – Patricia L. (Trainor) Mascetta, 88, wife of the late Americo (Mickey) Mascetta died at a local hospital on July 17, 2010. Pat was born in Millinocket on June 19, 1922, daughter of Thomas Patrick and Margaret Ellen (Nellie) Trainor. She graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1939 and from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1943. Pat later joined the United States Army, serving in the 34th Evac Hospital on the European front in World War II, following General George Patton, and also in the United States. She married Mickey Mascetta on her birthday in 1948, living in Millinocket since that time. Since Pat worked for over 30 years at Millinocket Regional Hospital as a Registered Nurse, she spent a lot of that time as a maternity nurse, helping to deliver many, many babies. She thoroughly enjoyed the reunions with the members of her nursing class. Pat worked as a volunteer for over 20 years for "Reach to Recovery", herself being a breast cancer survivor. She was also a member of AARP, and VFW Francis Stinson Post # 4154. Pat was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, and was considered to be the nucleus of her family. She was a good neighbor to many, providing medical services to friends and family. Pat is survived by her 5 children: Margaret Ellen (Peggy) Morrow and husband Paul of Medway, Thomas Patrick Mascetta and wife Patricia Locke of Lincoln, Susan Ann Jacobs and husband Rodney of Bangor, Sarah Hikel and husband Marty of Bangor, John Joseph Mascetta and wife Cindy of Poland; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth Morrow, Melanie Rhodes and husband Robert, Rebecca Jacobs, Katherine Mascetta, Brett Mascetta, and Tessa Mascetta; and 2 great grandchildren, Autumn Rhodes, and Merin Rhodes; sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Pat was pre-deceased by her siblings, Anna Mae Bertrand, Chester "Chet" Trainor and Lawrence Trainor. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 21 from 6-8 PM at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. Some researches have his mother as Sara G. Poore, daughter of John Poore ( b. 1560). John Coffin Jones Brown disputes this as follows: "Some Intern et sources, including the Mormon's International Genealogical Index, gi ve the name of Nicholas' mother as Sara G. Poore. This seems like ly to be someone's confused fabrication. First of all, it is extremely unl ikely that a woman would have a middle initial in those days. The Poore co nnection may come from all the Poores mentioned in the will of William Gor e."

From Wallingfords of New England (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ ~teschek/wallingford/):
The English ancestry of Nicholas Wallingford is unknown, but it is someh ow tied to the Gore family of the village of Nether Wallop in Southampt on (Hampshire) England. The will of William Gore of Nether Wallop in 16 56 proves the connection (see William Gore the elder, son of William Gore ). Included with these abstracts, originally done by Henry F. Water s, is an analytic note by a John Coffin Jones Brown of the wills of Willi am Gore and his father William as follows:
"In these Goore wills Mr. Waters is evidently probing the connections of t he ancestors of our Merrimac Valley settlers. The villages of Wallop, li ke those of Choulderton, lie upon the edges of the Counties of Wilts and S outhampton, and when Dummer, Saltonstall and Rawson, with their English as sociates, had arranged for developing a stock-raising town in New Englan d, they arranged also to secure from co. Wilts and its vicinity the transf er of a colony of practical men not only accustomed to the care of livesto ck, but to the trades which interlaced in the products of a stock-raisi ng community. The matter of first importance was to secure ministers wi th whom the community would feel at home. Rev. Thomas Parker and his relat ives the Noyes family, natives of Choulderton, were secured, and with th em the Wiltshire men were glad to join." "In the will, proved 28 March 16 57 [sic], the names of many of the Poore family are mentioned as cousi ns of the testator, and so is Nicholas Wallingford, who came in the Confid ence from Southampton in 1638, with others--Stephen Kent, John Rolfe, Jo hn Saunders, John and William Ilsley, and more recruits to join their rela tives who established the town of Newbury. Joseph Poore, of Newbury, marri ed, 6 August, 1680, Mary Wallingford, daughter of Nicholas, born 20 [si c] August 1663. Anthony Sadler was a passenger in the same vessel. In t he Visitation of co. Wilts in 1623 are pedigrees of the Sadler fami ly on p. 63. The son and heir of the family given there is Robert Sadle r, born in 1608, who may have been the person mentioned as "brother-in-la w" in the will given above." "The will proved in 1588 contains an instanc e, not uncommon at that period, but a terrible annoyance to genealogist s, of two sons having the same baptismal name--eldest son William, and fo ur youngest sons, among whom is William the younger. The name of Margar et Read recalls the fact that the Read and Noyes family intermarried in t he locality of these testators. From these two wills it seems likely th at the mother of Nicholas Wallingford was a Gore, sister to William who di ed in 1656 and daughter of the William who died in 1587 or 1588. Of cour se she could also be a relation to his wife, and thus a sister-in-law, b ut given that William had four sisters, namely Agnes, Elizabeth, Barbara a nd Margery, it would seem reasonable to believe that he was referring at t he time to his own sister. Nevertheless we shouldn't jump to the conclusi on that Nicholas's mother was a Gore, and his grandparents were William a nd Joane Gore of Nether Wallop. Of the four Gore sisters it appears that M argery/Margaret married a man named Singer, but who the other three marri ed isn't specifically stated. William Gore in 1656 mentions several "cousi ns", including Nicholas Wallingford, so these all may be nieces and nephew s. The term 'cousin' was most often used to mean niece or nephew in tho se days, but was also used to refer to cousins in the modern sense, or ev en some other kind of blood relation. The surnames of Singer, Wallingfor d, Poore, Miller and Hamon are all mentioned as 'cousin'. He mentions h is brother Roger Sherfield, which may indicate the maiden name of his wif e, as well as his uncle Hugh Mundy, which may indicate the maiden na me of his mother. Other scenarios are possible here as well."

Daniels spells name Wallington and also refers to spelling of Warrington..

BIRTH: Wallingfords of New England has birth in Fareham possibly by 30 Mar ch 1630.
Some sources erronously have his birth in Newbury, Massachusetts.

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England:
Nicholas Wallingford came from England in the ship Confidence from Lond on in 1638, landing in Boston. Customs House records published in the NEH GR are prefaced with the following note: "The List of the Names of the Pas sengrs Intended for New England in the good shipp the Confidence of Lond on of CC [200] tonnes, John Jobson, M[aste]r And thus by vertue of the Lo rd Treasrs warr[an]t of the xjth [11th] of Aprill, 1638. Southampton, 24 A prill, 1638". Among the passengers were Stephen and Margery Kent, husba nd and wife aged 17 and 16 respectively, whose origins in England were n ot stated on the passenger list as were most of the other passengers. [O ne source states the Stephen was from Salisbury, England and his wife Marg ery (Norris) was from Wallopp, co. South.] With them were four young peop le aged 9 through 20 described as servants, as well as "Nicholas Wallingto n, a poore boy", whose age was not given. The fact that he was listed amo ng the servants yet not described as one probably means that he was n ot a servant. In any case from this we can guess that he was probably ag ed in the range of 5 to 15 years old at the time, give or take. A manuscri pt Wallingford genealogy by Charles Wallingford states that the ship's l og gives his age as 19, and one by Samuel Shackford gives his age as 9, b ut no age appears in the published records in the New England Historical a nd Genealogical Register so this is suspect. Pope's "Pioneers of Massachus etts" also gives him a fictitious age of 9. If he was 19 at the time he wo uld have been born about 1619, married at age 35 to a woman about 18 yea rs his junior, had his last child at age 61, and disappeared at sea ag ed in his early 60s. It seems more likely that he was about nine years o ld and born closer to 1630 than to 1620.
His whereabouts between his arrival in 1638 and his first appearance in t he records in 1654 is unknown. He was likely a minor until the late 1640 s, and may have been living with another family as a servant or perhaps, g iven his later occupation as seaman, he may have been at sea as a cabin b oy or apprentice seaman. He may very well have stayed with the Kent fami ly with whom he traveled to America. The Kents lived in Newbury.
By 1654 Nicholas was living in Newbury, Mass., as he was married the re in August. Also that year "Nicholas Wallington" was one of many Newbu ry residents to sign a petition to the Massachusetts General Court protest ing an action against Lt. Robert Pike of Salisbury. In May of 1653 the Gen eral Court had passed a law making it illegal for anyone to preach in a ny town in the colony without the consent of the elders of four neighbori ng churches or with the approval of the county court. Lt. Robert Pike prot ested this as an infringement on personal rights of freemen and was censur ed by the General Court for seditious speech. He was fined, disenfranchis ed and prohibited from holding public office. This angered many residen ts of the towns of Newbury, Haverhill, Andover, Salisbury and Hampton a nd petitions were circulated in all those towns asking for the penalti es to be rescinded. Most of the freemen in these towns signed the petitio n, which angered the General Court further. Rather than grant the petition ers' request they considered the petitions to be highly censurable. The Co urt did "deeply resent that so many persons of several towns, conditions a nd relations, should combine together to present such an unjust and unreas onable request." They appointed a commission to meet with the petitione rs in each town and "require a reason of their unjust request, and how th ey came to be induced to sign the said petition." In October 1654 Capt. Wi lliam Gerrish and Nicholas Noyes reported back regarding the Newbury petit ioners. The Court ordered the petitioners whose answers to the commissi on they deemed unsatisfactory to appear in court and give bonds to answ er for their offences. Only eight Newbury men were so ordered, and Nichol as Wallingford was not one of them, so he must have been one of the many w ho apologized in some way to the commission for signing the petition. Josh ua Coffin, in his history of Newbury, remarks: "The whole case is a very i nstructive one. It exhibits, on the one hand, the watchful jealousy of t he people in consequence of any supposed, or real, encroachment on their c ivil or eccestial rights; and, on the other hand, the determination of t he magistrates not to have their authority lightly called in question."
On October 1, 1659 Richard Window of Gloucester and his wife Bridget, wid ow of Henry Travers, conveyed to Nicholas Wallington of Newbury four acr es and a house formerly belonging to said Travers. The land was border ed on the east by the street going to Merrimack, on the south by the Sou th Street, on the west by Richard Brown's land, and on the north by the la nd of Tristram Coffin. On October 26, 1659 Nicholas turned right around a nd sold the land to John Browne of Newbury. Henry Travers was of course h is father-in-law.
Nicholas Wallington witnessed the will of John Cutting of Newbury Octob er 22, 1659. On June 18, 1662 he owned land in the town of Rowley, as sho wn by a lease of that date in which Phillip Nelson of Rowley let to Robe rt Savery and William Bolton of Newbury a farm in Rowley of 300 acres, bou nded on the east by the Newbury town line, on the west by land of "Nicol as Walington", on the north by the Merrimack River, and on the south by Cr ane Meadow.
Nicholas Wallington served as surveyor of Highways, fences and chimne ys in Bradford in 1667 with John Hardy.
In a Court held at Salem, Mass., June 25, 1667: "Copy of deed, dated Octob er 16, 1661, John (his mark) Willcot of Newbury and Mary, his wife, to Nic olas Wallington of Newbury, the half farm he purchased of Philip Nells on of Rowley, etc. Wit: Joseph Muzzey, Trustram Coffin, Robert Lange, Jo hn Pike, and Hugh Marsh. Acknowledged March 25, 1662, by John Wolcott. Co py made, June 24, 1667, by Robert Lord"(28). At a later Court held in Ipsw ich on September 24, 1667, Nicholas sued John Wolcott for not making go od on this parcel of land. The verdict was for the defendant.
In February 1670 Nicholas "Wallinghton" was mentioned in court recor ds as someone who "frequently communed with" members of Mr. Edward Woodman 's church despite not being a member. He took an oath as a freeman in Newb ury on October 11, 1670. In November 1672 he owed 3 pounds to the esta te of Abraham Toppan of Newbury. On February 24, 1672 town orders regardi ng fences, swine, cattle, and horses were signed by five people, includi ng Nicolas Wallingford. No town was stated in this record, but since Bradf ord came into existence in 1675 it was most likely Newbury. "Nicolas Walin gton" was a member of a grand jury in Ipswich, September 25, 1677. By a de ed acknowledged on January 29, 1677/8 he gave one acre of meadow in the Cr ane Meadow, bounded on Crane Brook, "to have an able & faithful ministry s ettle amongst the inhabitants of the s[ai]d Towne of Bradford" (Essex Deed s, 4 Ips.: 130).
He settled in Newbury, Massachusetts and, judging by the birth recor ds of his children, was apparently living in Bradford by 1672, which is wh en that town was first named. He may have lived a short time in Rowley, Ma ss., about 1662-3, as evidenced by the fact that he owned land there in 16 62 and one of his childen's birth's was recorded in the Rowley town recor ds (although also in the Newbury town records at the same time). Of cours e, Bradford was originally part of Rowley, known as "Merrimack" or "The Me rrimac Lands", so these lands may have been in what later became Bradfor d.

DEATH: Wallingfords of New England has death in captivity overseas, abo ut 1680 or 1681, in "Argone". Nicholas was a seaman and his last voya ge to sea apparently led to his being captured on his way to England and h is death in captivity. The first word yet found of his disappearan ce is in a letter dated October 24, 1680 from Samuel Sewall of Boston to h is brother Stephen Sewall of Bishop-Stoke, Hampshire, England. At one poi nt in this letter Samuel writes, "Mr. Lidget is well & brisk in London: en quire if he can tell any thing of Nic Wallingford". Samuel Sewall was a ri ch merchant who later became a judge, but in these early years he had rece ntly come of age in the town of Newbury where his father and grandfather w ere early settlers. It seems reasonable to imagine that the Wallingford fa mily appealed to Sewall, having known his family and knowing that they h ad contacts in a wider world who might have word of Nicholas. Sewall lat er was a judge at the Salem witch trails, and eventually Chief Justi ce of the Province of Massachusetts Bay. The Mr. Lidget mentioned in the l etter may be either Peter or his son Charles, both merchants from Boston a nd London. More research should be done into these individuals to see if t hey left any more letters with information on Nicholas. Samuel Sewall le ft an extensive diary covering most of his life but, unfortunately, the ye ars which might reveal more information about Wallingford's disappearan ce were lost long ago.
Certification of his death by Mr. Thomas Kellon, a merchant, was made to t he court at Ipswich, Mass. on September 27, 1681, and an inventory of h is estate had been made on the 22d. Nicholas had been captured at sea whi le on a voyage to England and died in captivity, so likely died long befo re the news reached home. Evidence for this fact is contained in his proba te files in a 1683 petition from his wife where she states that he "bei ng going for England was taken Captive and there ended his Days". Some sec ondary sources state that he was captured by Barbary pirates, but th is is likely only oral tradition, although perfectly plausible. The invent ory of his estate begins "An Inventory of ye Estate of Nicholaus Wallingfo rd who Deceased in Argone." This would seem to indicate that the name of t he place where he died is called "Argone". Three possible locations for th is would be "Aragon", a part of Spain, "Argonne", a part of France, and "A rguin", a fortified trading station dominating a section of the West Afric an coast, now in Mauritania. Arguin was under contention between the Dut ch and the French about that time and was also being visited by some adven turous English traders.
At a court held in Ipswich on September 27, 1681, administration of the es tate of Nicholas Wallingford was granted to Sarah Wallingford, relict of s aid Nicholas, and Caleb Hopkinson, and they were ordered to bring in an in ventory to the next March court. This action was performed "upon a certifi cate received from Mr. Tho. Kellon, merchant, on the death of Nicholas Wal ingford".
Nicholas' probate file includes a number of papers, some of which are extr acted or abstracted below:

This inventory of the estate of Nicholas Wallingford the Administrators up on oath delivered to be a true Inventory to the best of their knowled ge & if more appears [illeg.] ye court [illeg.] at Ipswich the 28 of Mar ch 1682. Attest Robert Ford clerk for ordering of the estate the court ord ers the estate to be left in the widdows hand for the bringing up the you ng child and the lame child but the land to be responsable to be order ed by the court."
His widow petitioned the court:
"To the Honored Generall Court sitting at Boston the 16th of May 1683. T he Humble petition of Sarah Wallingford to this Honored Court is as follow eth. Whereas by Gods Providence my Late Deare husband being going for Engl and was taken Captive and there ended his Days, hath left your poore handm aid with her children sivirall of whom Small & not Capable to doe anythi ng towards a livily hood; the Court at Ipswich having Granted Administrati on to myself of the estate which is most of it is wilderness land; not abo ve two acres of said land in Improvement. Sarah Wallingford
There [or then?] was my son in law named put into the letter of Administra tion but he will not undertake nor be engatged unless there be [illeg.] gi ven, to sell some land to pay Debts & relieve us."
The court granted Caleb Hopkinson & Sarah Wallingford administrators "libe rty to make sale of part of the Land belonging to sd estate to the val ew of forty pounds according to Inventory already Given in."
On 28 March 1682 the probate court ordered that Nicholas' personal esta te be left in the widow Sarah's hands "for the bringing up of the young ch ild and the lame child". The young child is likely Abigail, who would ha ve been less than two years old at the time. But the "lame" child is unide ntified. If one assumes that a "lame" or handicapped child would not ha ve married (perhaps a false assumption) that leaves either William or Jose ph, who died unmarried, or Hannah, about whom it is not known whether or n ot she ever married.
On 22 April 1691 the Essex Co. Quarterly Court at Ipswich ratified an agre ement between the widow Sarah, her sons James and John Wallingford and h er son-in-law Caleb Hopkinson to set out the remainder of the estate of Ni cholas to the widow and children. Sarah had renounced her rights to the wi dow's thirds for some reason, so a committee consisting of Samuel Hazeltin e, David Hazeltine and Richard Kimball was created to redistribute the rem ainder of the estate.(42) On 3 November 1709, a few months after Sarah die d, "the Children of Nicholas Wallingford, late of Bradford, Deceasd" petit ioned the government to affirm the division of the estate that was done ba ck in 1691. This was signed by Caleb Hopkinson (husband to Sarah), Nathani el Caldwell (husband to Abigail), Jonathan Look (husband to Elizabeth), Ja mes Wallingford, Benjamin Wallingford, Nathaniel Ayers (husband to Esthe r) and Joseph Poore (husband to Mary). James Wallingford was the only o ne to make a mark rather than sign. Apparently their brother and brother-i n-law John Wallingford, who had agreed to the earlier 1691 division, was n ow attempting to void his mother's title to certain lands that she h ad at some point sold, claiming that the land was only hers during her lif etime, which, the petitioners claimed, "could not bee so Intended or under stood". The Massachusetts Legislature granted their petition.(43) The leg al papers that must have been generated by John haven't been seen yet.

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Travers

One source spells name Traverse. Crooks Genealogy has her name Bridget.

DEATH: Wallingford Genealogy has death in 1709.
From Wallingfords of New England: John Wallingford "of Bradford" was admi nistrator of the estate of his mother "Sarah Wallingford alias Mash" [sic ], giving bond on 22 August 1709 with Joseph Peasley of Haverhill, Mass. a nd John Wicom of Newbury, Mass. He signed by mark, not a signature. On t he back of this bond notice he is called "eldest surviving son of Sarah Wa llingford alias Mash", and she is described as "Relict of Nicholas Walling ford of Bradford".

General Notes: Child - John Wallingford

From Wallingfords of New England: Master Tate's diary reports that "Mrs.S usannah Wallingford, Widow of Jn. Wallingford, deceased, died on Sunday, F ebruary 9, 1772". Shackford speculates that this John may have taken th is Susannah as a second wife, but the differences in their apparent ages m akes this unlikely, unless, of course, he married a young girl while he w as an old man.

BIRTH: Ancestry of George W. Bush and Wallingfords of New England have bir th in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England: In a warrant dated 9 April 1 680 John Wallingford and Thomas Thurla were ordered to appear in court " to answer their presentments".
John is included on a 9 July 1690 military roll during King William's Wa r. He signed as one of many in the North Regiment in Essex County who we re ready to "voluntarily offer our selvis to serve God, our King & Countr ye in ye designed Expedition for Canada". John March of Newbury was Capta in of the Company. Whether John Wallingford and the regiment actually we nt on this expedition isn't stated, but if they did, they were command ed by Sir William Phips and sailed off from Boston in an armada on 21 Augu st 1690 to attack Quebec City. The invasion was completely unsuccessful d ue to a combination of poor military command, lack of supplies and the ons et of smallpox among the attackers. If John did serve on this campai gn he would have been the first Wallingford to serve in the military in Am erica. It seems likely that he did serve on the expedition given the follo wing fact. In 1739 the township of Bakerstown, now Salisbury, N.H., was la id out and granted to the "Soldiers in the expedition to Canada Anno 16 90 under the Command of Capt John March". Included among the proprietors f rom Newbury was John's son Capt. Thomas Wallingford, although he was livi ng in Dover, N.H. at the time.
Following John's marriage to the daughter of Judge John Tuttle of Dover, N .H. they lived at Bradford, Mass. In 1702 Colonel Paul Wentworth and Jud ge John Tuttle became partners in a lumber business on the Salmon Falls Ri ver in Dover. Judge Tuttle invited his son-in-law John Wallingford to co me to Salmon Falls to help with the operation of the saw mill and lumber b usiness. The family moved to that area later on.
On 27 September 1701 John "of Bradford" gave bond with Robert Mullic an of Bradford for the administration of the estate of his brother Jose ph Wallingford, late of Bradford deceased intestate, said bond being witne ssed by John and Hannah Higginson.
On 27 September 1701, the same day he gave bond for the estate of his brot her Joseph, he did the same on the estate of his brother Benjamin, apparen tly on a false report of his death. He was "of Bradford" when he gave bo nd again with Robert Mullican, said bond also being witnessed by John a nd Hannah Higginson.
John Wallingford "of Bradford" was administrator of the estate of his moth er "Sarah Wallingford alias Mash" [sic], giving bond on 22 August 1709 wi th Joseph Peasley of Haverhill, Mass. and John Wicom of Newbury, Mas s. He signed by mark, not a signature. On the back of this bond noti ce he is called "eldest surviving son of Sarah Wallingford alias Mash", a nd she is described as "Relict of Nicholas Wallingford of Bradford".

General Notes: Child - Nicholas Wallingford

From Wallingfords of New England: A manuscript Wallingford genealogystat es that his wife's name was Elizabeth Jewett rather than Palmer, and th at she was born 8 August 1652 and died 21 January 1740. A Jewett genealo gy also has some confusing information by recording the marriage of an unc lassified Elizabeth Jewett with Nicholas Wallingford, Jr. of Bradfo rd on 12 March 1680. This is clearly in error, as John Palmer, in his wi ll dated 23 August 1693, mentions his daughter Elizabeth, wife of Antho ny Bennet, as well as a grandchild Nicholas Wallingford, a minor. The publ ished Bradford VRs also record a marriage between Nicholas Jr. and Elizabe th ------- on 12 March 1680, the day their son Nicholas was born. Both th is date and the date in 1678 are from records of the Essex Co. Quarterly C ourt. There is no other known Nicholas that this can be so it is probab ly just confused with the birth date of Nicholas III. The original court r ecords should be checked to determine the truth here.

BIRTH: Wallingfords of New England has birth in Newbury, Essex County, Mas sachusetts.

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England: On 4 April 1682 Nicholas Wall ingford, Caleb Hopkinson and others were called to testify as witness es in a case against Nathan Webster for "killing a tame deer, for lies a nd for breach of the peace". Caleb, aged about 32, and Nicholas, aged abo ut 26, "deposed that the night following the day that Webster shot the de er near where Thomas Stickney dwells, they asked Webster why he would sho ot a deer with a red list around its neck. They said it was probably Dav id Wheeler's."(

DEATH: From Wallingfords of New England: At a court held at Salem, Mas s. on 27 June 1682 the inventory of his estate was settled. Nicholas Walli ngford died intestate and administration of his estate was granted to Eliz abeth, the widow, who presented the inventory. Elizabeth, "having one chil d: viz: Nicholas, the child of the deceased: the court do order that the w hole estate shalbe & remaine in the widdows hands for her use and bringi ng up of the child: & when he comes of age the estate as in the Invento ry (after debts are paid) to be divided equally between the mother & chil d: ... & the house & land in the Inventory, is to stand bound for securi ty for the paying the childs portion."
The inventory was taken on 2 June 1682 by Shuball Walker and Ezekiell Nort hen. [The inventory published in the Essex Quarterly Court Records says Ez ekiel Clenton but is incorrect, and it makes other mistakes as well. Nicho las' wife Elizabeth's mother was Margaret Northend, brother to this Ezekie l.] In addition to various items of wearing apparel, furniture, wooden war e, "utincils for husbandry", "Provisions in the house", looms and livesto ck was the "house land & medow" worth Ð130. Total value of the estate w as set at Ð195. A listing of debts due to and from the estate is included

BIRTH: Birth may have been on May 29. Wallingfords of New England hasbir th in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.

General Notes: Child - Mary Wallingford

From Wallingfords in New England: A Mary Poor married William Pilsbury on 15 November 1737 in Newbury. This may be our Mary or it could be another M ary Poore entirely. It is only the fact that the marriage took place two y ears after her husband's death that makes it seem at all likely. More rese arch is necessary into the local Pilsbury family.

BIRTH: Birth may have been on August 15 and may have been in Rowley, Massa chusetts.

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England: When Mary was sixteen she app eared as a witness in a trial against William Fanning of Newbury. On 28 Au gust 1679 Caleb Moody made a complaint against said Fanning and his wi fe of several misdemeanors. He claimed that Fanning was "overgone with exc essive drinking" and was quarrelling with his wife and threatening her a nd calling her "whore, devill etc." Sarah Moody and Mary Wallington gave s tatements that "as they were going by the house to fetch the Cowes, in t he morning, Goodwife ffanning coming forth & beginning to complaine of h er husband to them: he swore God damme my soule, if you speake a word I wi ll knock out your braines".

BIOGRAPHY: Wallingfords of New England: On 29 October 1695 JamesWallingfo rd of Bradford sold to his brother John Wallingford, also of Bradford, f or Ð10-6 "a parcel of land which was laid out for an adition unto Nichol as Wallingford Senr deceased it was an adition unto his farm which is in B radford it lyeth to ye South East of Bever brooke Joyning by land of Phil ip Nelson Neare Rowley Line That is to say the abovesd James Wallingfor ds owne share of land which fell to him for part of his portion of his [fa ther's estate] and his mother Sarah Mash her share Mary poore her sha re & Benjamin Wallingford his share & Joseph Wallingford his share which f ell to them for part of portions. These other shares I the above James ha ve bought of Each of them this Land I do Confirme unto ye abovesd John Wal lingford..." James made his mark and the deed was witnessed by William Sav ery and Samuel Tenney.
On 3 November 1709 James was a signatory to a petition of the childr en of the late Nicholas Wallingford to the Massachusetts government. Th is petition is described in more detail under Nicholas' record.
On 13 February 1738 James Wallingford of Bradford, yeoman, sued his neph ew Thomas Wallingford of Dover, N.H. for Ð40 to collect on a Ð20 bond dat ed 20 November 1716. The bond was an agreement between Thomas Wallingfor d, husbandman, of Bradford to pay Ð20 current money of New England and w as witnessed by Abigail Davison and D. Davison and signed by Thomas. Jam es was initially awarded Ð20 but on 8 March 1738 a jury found for the defe ndant and awarded all court costs to Thomas. The defendant had argued th at at the time of the date of the bond he was "an infant" under the a ge of 21 and therefore not responsible to pay it. Included with the case r ecords is a certified copy of Thomas' birth record from Bradford showing t hat he would have been 19 years old at the time. On 7 March 1739 James su ed Thomas again to recover costs from the previous case in the sum of Ð1 8, originally awarded to Thomas but James complained that it should have g one to himself. The outcome of this appeal is not included in the case fil e, although the case was apparently heard on the first Tuesday of August 1 739. Nothing is known of James after this date.

General Notes: Child - Hannah Wallingford

From Wallingfords of New England: She may have married Daniel Russell, befo re 22 April 1692. Her marriage to Daniel Russell and the subsequent bir th of a son Jonathan is based only on one piece of evidence. In a divisi on of the estate of her father made 22 April 1692 one Daniel Russell was a warded about three acres of land from the estate. All of the living childr en of Nicholaus Wallingford are accounted for in this division except Hann ah, and in the case of her two sisters Sarah and Mary who were marri ed by that time only their husbands are mentioned, not the women themselve s. There seems to be no other logical reason why Daniel Russell would be i ncluded unless he was the husband of the missing Hannah. On the birth reco rd of his son Jonathan in the Rowley records two years later, his wife's n ame is given as Hannah.
Hannah was listed in an accounting of the estate of her brother Jose ph on 12 September 1709. Nothing is known of her after that date, and s he could have been married at the time because no last names were giv en in that record. She was not, however, included in a 3 November 1709 pet ition by "the Children of Nicholas Wallingford, late of Bradford" that w as signed by two of her brothers as well as five of the men who married h er sisters. If she did marry Daniel Russell one wonders why he wasn't incl uded in this 1709 petition, although the fact that it was intended to coun teract the actions of another sibling -- John -- could mean that Daniel a nd Hannah did not wish to be a part of it. It's possible, though unlikel y, that they were both deceased at the time.

BIRTH: Wallingfords of New England has birth in Newbury, Essex County, Mas sachusetts.

General Notes: Child - William Wallingford

BIRTH: May have been born February 26, 1669. Wallingfords of NewEnglan d: The published Newbury vital records show his birth as taking pla ce on "Feb. [27 S. dup.], 1669". The "S. dup." abbreviation means that t he date of 27 came from a copy of the vital records made by Henry Short ab out 1690. In the original record the second digit of the date is illegibl e, but appears to consist primarily of a straight line which would be mo re likely to indicate a 7 than a 6. His birth is also recorded in the publ ished Bradford vital records as taking place on the 26th. This entry com es from records of the Essex County Quarterly Court, which actually say th at the birth took place in Merrimac. The town of Merrimac, Mass. wasn't fo rmed until 1876 so this refers to that part of Rowley which became the to wn of Bradford in 1672.

DEATH: Wallingfords of New England: William died 1 or 5 March 1685, in Br adford, Essex County, Massachusetts.(50) The published Bradford vital reco rds record two different dates -- March 5th from the vital records and Mar ch 1st from Essex Quarterly court records.

General Notes: Child - Joseph Wallingford

DEATH: Wallingfords of New England: On September 27, 1701 Joseph'sbroth er John "of Bradford" gave bond with Robert Mullican of Bradford for the a dministration of Joseph's estate, he being "late of Bradford deceased inte state", said bond being witnessed by John and Hannah Higginson. An invento ry was taken that showed an estate worth only Ð12, 18s, 4p. Richard Kimba ll and Jonas Platts signed the inventory. John made an accounting of the e state of Joseph on September 12, 1709, nearly eight years later, and at t he bottom is a list of first names who all received one pound two shillin gs from the estate, this list obviously being his surviving siblings Nicho las, John, James, Benjamin, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Elizabeth, Esther and Abi gail. As his estate was distributed to his brothers and sisters he apparen tly never married, or else his wife and any children predeceased him.

General Notes: Child - Esther Wallingford

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England: On 20 September 1694 Estherso ld to her brother John Wallingford of Bradford for Ð18 "all my share of la nd or meadow which hath or may fall unto me as my right or portion of my f ather Nicholas Wallingford's Estate within ye bounds of Bradford & Rowl ey and Newbury". The deed was witnessed by William and Benjamin Hutchin s. Esther made her mark instead of signing.

General Notes: Child - Benjamin Wallingford

DEATH: One source has death after 1748 in Prince Georges County,Maryland.
From Wallingfords of New England: On 27 September 1701, John Wallingfo rd gave bond for the estate of his brother Joseph, he did the same on t he estate of his brother Benjamin, apparently on a false report of his dea th. An inventory was taken on 22 October 1701 by the same Richard Kimba ll and Jonas Platts which included "about sixten acres of land and Medow". (78) But Benjamin was alive and well and living in Maryland, and he was ba ck in Massachusetts in 1709, evidently to rectify the situation.

BIOGRAPHY: From Wallingfords of New England: On 27 September 1701 John Wa llingford gave bond for the administration of the estate of his brother Be njamin, apparently upon a false report of his death. An inventory of Benja min's estate was taken on 22 October 1701 by the Richard Kimball and Jon as Platts which included "about sixten acres of land and Medow". But Benja min was alive and well and living in Maryland, and he was back in Massachu setts in 1709, evidently to rectify the situation. On 4 April 1709 John Wa llingford and his brother Benjamin signed an agreement -- John "d id In ye Absence of Benja Wallingford take out Admn on said Benja Lan ds as may appear by Record. It is agreed by both parties yt if said admini stration shall have ye Improvement of said Estate for ye Time past. In con sideration of his trouble Charge & care In Managing said Estate & do here by acquitt & release ye said Admr for any reckoning considering his Admins tration & ye said Benja to Enjoy & possess all his [illeg.] of right Divid ed to him." Benjamin either remained in Massachusetts after this April 17 09 agreement was made or soon returned, because on 3 November 1709 he w as a signatory to a petition of the children of the late Nicholas Wallingf ord to the Massachusetts government. This petition is described in more de tail under his father's record. Also that same year he was a beneficia ry to the estate of his brother Joseph. He and each of his surviving sibli ngs received one pound two shillings from the estate. Benjamin moved to M aryland and had numerous descendants, many in Kentucky. His line has not b een traced in this genealogy. For more information on his descendants s ee the Wallingford genealogy by Charles C. Wallingford and Charles H. Murr ow, available on microfilm in LDS Family History Centers worldwide.

Savages states that no record of Richard Treat can be found inMasschusetts prior to his settlement at Wethersfield, Connecticut. Whilesome sources report that he was a representative at the first GeneralCourt in CT in 1637, Savages finds no record of him until he was chosenas Assistant from 1658-1665. Cutter syas that he was deputy to theGeneral Court in 1644 and perhaps earlier and held that office until1657-58. He was a juror in 1643, an assistant or magistrate eight times, from March 1658 to 1665. He was named in the Royal Charter joining thecolonies of New Haven and Connecticut 23 April 1662. and a member of Gov.Winthrop's Council 1663-64.
