...He enrolled as a private in Co. K. First Maine Volunteer Infantry, April 20, 1861 at Lewiston, Maine and was mustered in May 3, 1861 at Lewiston, Maine. He was mustered olut at Portland, Maine Aug 5, 1861. He enlisted in Co. K. 10th Maine Volunteer Feb 24, 1862 at Lewiston, Maine for three years. He was on the roll for March throught June 1862 and was taken prisoner on retreat from Winchester May 25, 1862. Hewas exchanged and joined the company again Oct 22, 1862. He was transferred to Co. A. 29th Regiment and was present in March and April 1863. He was in the hospital at Aqua Creek and subsquently on the roll to April 30, 1864. He was present throught July 1864 when he was sick at York, Pa. He transferred to Co. K, same regiement Oct 4, 1864 and he was mustered out at Stevenson Depot, Va. Feb 24, 1865.
...Leonard had inherited his father's farm and lived there on Main Street near the Greens line in Lewiston, Maine to his death.

He lived in Orange, Orange, VT; Samuel purchased land in Orange, VT on 10 March 1796 and moved there in 1797 as one of the first settlers immediately after marrying his second wife Sarah Davis. His first wife is unknown, apparently there were no children by her. Samuel stopped at New London, NH on his way home from Boston. Going through a door which he mistook for the office door he entered the cellar, falling down the stairs and breaking his leg. Some Civil War Soldiers of Northwestern Maine...
Joshua L. Witham, aka Charles H. Smith. As Joshua L. Witham, a 31 year old resident of Dexter, Maine, he enlisted in Company G, 6th Maine Infantry, on February 2, 1862 - the record indicates he transferred to Company E, 7th Maine Infantry, on November 5, 1863; transferred to the 1st Veteran Maine Regiment on August 21, 1864; and was dropped as a deserter on January 27, 1865. However, as Charles H. Smith, a 34 year-old farmer from Wells, Maine, he enlisted in Company I, 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry, and was mustered in on February 10, 1863. His pension application in 1890 lists both names and service in the 2nd Massachuseets Cavalry and the 6th Maine. He died in November 1890, and is buried in the Madrid Village Cemetery with his wife Charlotte (1832-1910).

"The Great Migration Begins, Immigrants to New England 1620-1633," Vol. II, Robert Charles Anderson, 1995 indicates Sarah's birth at about 1638, while Jacobus in "Hale, House and Related Families," pg. 581 calls it "say 1633." The latter date is more consistent with her marriage "by 1651," also per Jacobus.
Jacobus also indicates that Sarah married Stephen Davis after the death of John Ward in 1684. However, there is a contradiction in the text (see pg. 650) which indicates that "Lt." John Ward, Sr. of Newark married widow Hannah (Crane) Huntington after 1685 and that he died between 31 Oct. and 20 Nov. 1694.

MILLINOCKET-Francis "Mickey" Michaud, 87, entered into rest Saturday, April 1, 2006 at a local healthcare center. He was the beloved husband of the late Winona (Davis) Michaud.
Mr. Michaud was born in Houlton, ME on June 27, 1918 to the late George and Stella (Wilson) Michaud. He was a World War II veteran, serving with his National Guard unit overseas. While there, he earned the rank of Corporal. After his Honorable Discharge, Mr. Michaud returned to the Katahdin Region employed with the B & A Railroad as a rail car inspector. Since his retirement, he has been a past Commander and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Michaud is survived by his children Arthur Michaud of Millinocket and Debbie Bissell and her husband Bob of Bangor.
