Nathaniel and Zilpah (Robbins) Fales, of Thomaston,Me. They were
published, May 15, 1819.
Nathaniel fales, her father, was born in Norwich, Oct. 25, 1752, and
was a son of Capt. nathaniel Fales, an early settler in Thomaston.
Joshua Richard came from Litchfield to Thomaston not long after 1816,
when his father removed to Ohio.
He died Oct. 1, 1851. Bader Fales, brother (I suppose) to the widow
Deborah, was at her request appointed administrator Dec. 5, 1853. She
was then in feeble health. The estate was represented insolvent, May 30,
1854. [Lincoln Prob. Records.]

Moved to Clinton to farm the land Martha had bought with the help of
Francis. The farm is now in Benton and operated as a dairy farm by their
great grandson Edgar Wyman. When Zebedee died William inherited the farm
and Martha moved to Canaan to live with Jacob. Zebedee was illiterate
until taught to read and write by Martha. It is interesting to read their
deeds; the first ones were signed by Martha
alone, later ones by Martha with Zebedee's mark, than by Zebedee and

Benjamin O. Runnells, 97, husband of Gertrude Robinson Runnells, of 2 Washington Heights, died Saturday afternoon at his home after several months illness.
Born in Medway, Maine, April 7, 1881, the son of the late Charles A. and Ann M. Faloon Runnells, he made his home in Meriden for 35 years, coming here from Howland, Maine. Until his retirement 25 years ago, he had been employed in the maintenance department of Factory R, International Silver Company.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Minnie Runnells, Shirley Watson, and Barbara McLean, all of Meriden, Gladys Raymond of Plantsville and Charlotte Henry of Rocherster, Mich., eight grand children; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wesley Runnells of Stillwater, British Columbia and a half-brother, Thad Cramm of Ashland, Maine; two half sisters, Verna Osgood and Myra Twist, both of East Millinocket, Maine and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Walnut Grove.

Henry was the youngest member of the family and he had several differentcareers during his life time. He attended the Agricultural College inTruro NS and worked on the Faloon farm initially. He & his wife Kathleenlived at Waweig and operated a store for a number of years. He alsoworked for a while as a locomotime fireman for the CPR and was a salesmanfor Fairbanks Morse. In 1923 they moved to St. George and Henry becameinvolved in electrical work. He was involved in the supervision ofconstruction of the power line to Deer Island. At this time he was amember of the St. George Fire Department, a scout leader and otheractivities during the depths of the depression. During World War II, hewas employed as an electrician at the RCAF Station Pennfield, first as acivillian, then as a Flight Sergeant. He also served at Summerside PEIfor a while.
After the war he was employed with the St. George Paper Company as theplant engineer until his death in 1955.

Doris worked in Blacks Harbour and spent several years in hospital in St.John after the war. She was working in Montreal when she died. She wasnever married.

This Hugh Faloon established the family home in Waweig when he purchasedland from Samuel Connick. In time he purchased additional land anddeveloped a proseerous farm with orchards, greenhouses etc...
It appears that he helped out several members of the family by loaningmoney for land purchases.
They had a total of 9 children, however only James Thomas, the eldest andMargaret survived to adulthood. There is no indication of what caused thedeath of so many children. At the time of their deaths there was a numberof deaths due to scarlet fever in the area which may have been theproblem here.
Hugh and James are the two members of the family that remained RomanCatholic. Although Robert Thomas himself was catholic, his descendantsfollowed various Protestant religions.

John Faloon has been the most prolific of all the family of Thomas &Rose. We do not have any positive information to confirm that John was infact a son of Thomas but all indications lead to that conclusion. Hearrived in St. Stephen on board the "Adra Ann" about 1838. He marriedLaura Hanson of St. Stephen and moved to the vicinity of Bangor, MaineUSA.
John first settled in Lincoln, Maine, where 3 of their children wereborn. Another 3 were born in Enfield, Maine, and the final 3 were born inPattagumpus, Maine.
Pattaagumpus, Maine became part of Medway when it was incorporated as atown on Feb. 8, 1875. John's signature is one of the 22 men whopetitioned for this action.
John is reported to have been a potatoe farmer in Ireland and was engagedin farming and lumbering in Maine. John Faloon is mentioned in a book onthe history of Medway and that he settled in Tract Z in 1845.
According to our information John arrived in Canada at the age of 20 sohis experience in "potatoe farming in Ireland" would have been as alabourer on his father's farm. His brother Hugh was a farmer in Waweig,NB and it appears that Thomas and Rose probably lived in Waweig in the1840's. Therefore, we consider that this information could be valid andthat any search will concentrate on farming areas in County Down.
Many of John Faloon's descendants still live near Bangor, Maine, USA.

There are several Hanson Families listed in the 1851 census for CharlotteCo., NB and it is impossible at this stage to pinpoint Laura's family. Infamily notes it is suggested that her father was Clark Hanson with UEroots. She was also known as Hannah. She was a tall, big-framed, thinwoman, who is rumoured to be part Spanish and to have had a fiery temperaccording to her grandson. She married Bill White after John's death.

Robert Thomas is the eldest of the family and he was married in Irelandbefore coming to Canada. There is some confusion as to the name of hiswife. The only reference we have is a baptismal certificate dated June30, 1836 in the RC Church in St. Andrews where the name of the mother isdifficult to read. It could be McVey and as there are other families ofMcVeys in the St. Stephen area it is quite possible that this is theproper name, hence it is identified with a ? to indicate our doubts.
Thomas worked as a boommaster and similar jobs in Milltown for the manyyears he lived there. In the 1851 census the name is listed as Pheloon,in 1861 as Fulloon, in 1871 as Falloon, in 1881 as Faloon and in 1891 asFalloon, which is one of the problems encountered by all genealogists.

A tombstone in the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery lists Thomas and Rose ashaving died in 1848 & 1850 at the ages of 73 & 56. This is the onlyreference we have to the parents of the Faloon family of Waweig. Althoughwe know that the children came over about 1840, there is no confirmationthat Thomas and Rose came except for the tombstone inscription. The stonewas obviously erected about 1880 and was based on memory for the mostpart. It appears that James Thomas Faloon was responsible for the stone.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME FALOON
The name ceertainly is of Irish origin although authorities differ on thedetails. For example "Dictionary of Surnames - Patrick Hanke and FlaviaHughes" gives the following explanation.
"FALLON -1 English variation of Fuller
2 Irish - Anglicised version of Gaelic O'Fallamhain, descendent of Fallamhan, a byname meaning leader (from fallamhnas supremacy)
Variations - O'Fallon, O'Fallo(w)ne, Fal(l)oon, Hallan,Falloona."
Other sources suggest that it is a version of O'Faolain which is alsogiven as the source for Whelan, Wolfe, Phelan. In Gaelic Faol is used forwolf.

General Notes: Child - Hugh Faloon
This Hugh Faloon established the family home in Waweig when he purchasedland from Samuel Connick. In time he purchased additional land anddeveloped a proseerous farm with orchards, greenhouses etc...
It appears that he helped out several members of the family by loaningmoney for land purchases.
They had a total of 9 children, however only James Thomas, the eldest andMargaret survived to adulthood. There is no indication of what caused thedeath of so many children. At the time of their deaths there was a numberof deaths due to scarlet fever in the area which may have been theproblem here.
Hugh and James are the two members of the family that remained RomanCatholic. Although Robert Thomas himself was catholic, his descendantsfollowed various Protestant religions.
General Notes: Child - John Edward Faloon
John Faloon has been the most prolific of all the family of Thomas &Rose. We do not have any positive information to confirm that John was infact a son of Thomas but all indications lead to that conclusion. Hearrived in St. Stephen on board the "Adra Ann" about 1838. He marriedLaura Hanson of St. Stephen and moved to the vicinity of Bangor, MaineUSA.
John first settled in Lincoln, Maine, where 3 of their children wereborn. Another 3 were born in Enfield, Maine, and the final 3 were born inPattagumpus, Maine.
Pattaagumpus, Maine became part of Medway when it was incorporated as atown on Feb. 8, 1875. John's signature is one of the 22 men whopetitioned for this action.
John is reported to have been a potatoe farmer in Ireland and was engagedin farming and lumbering in Maine. John Faloon is mentioned in a book onthe history of Medway and that he settled in Tract Z in 1845.
According to our information John arrived in Canada at the age of 20 sohis experience in "potatoe farming in Ireland" would have been as alabourer on his father's farm. His brother Hugh was a farmer in Waweig,NB and it appears that Thomas and Rose probably lived in Waweig in the1840's. Therefore, we consider that this information could be valid andthat any search will concentrate on farming areas in County Down.
Many of John Faloon's descendants still live near Bangor, Maine, USA.

Mary Ann came to Canada as a young girl, presumably as part of the Thomasand Rose family, about 1838. She lived most of her life in the St.Stephen area. Her obituary was in "The Saint Croix Courier".
