APLEY, Reta Evelyn - of Lower Woodstock passed away at Upper River Valley Hospital on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the age of 86. Born at Nackawic, she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Thornton) Davidson.
Reta is survived by two sons, E. Gerald McKenzie of Woodstock and Rev. Allen Tapley (Joan) of Sussex; a daughter, Valerie Denning of LowerWoodstock; one brother, Carl Davidson (Areta) of Geary; two sisters, Irene Keenan of Fredericton and Marcine Carpenter (Hazen) of Woodstock; grandchildren Randy ( Shelly) McKenzie; Rachael (Clarence) Bennett;Sarah Tapley and Gena Denning; one great granddaughter Michelle; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Reta was pre-deceased by her hushand, Robert Tapley one brother Orland Davidson and one sister Iris Freeman.
Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB , with visiting on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm from Saint James United Church. Rev. Fred Snyder will be officiating, with interment in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery at a late date.

Reference to the Church: Utica for a Century and A Half, by T. Wood Clarke, Utica, N. Y.: The Widtman Press, 1952: South Street Methodist Church (Corn Hill Methodist) - This church was organized in 1852, with eighty-two members, under the leadership of Thomas J. Francis, and the following year built a small church on South Street. The first pastor was John Inskip. The church continued to thrive until 1920, when it then became affiliated with the Central M.E. Church.
These marriages records were abstracted from a list of marriages that took place in Utica, Oneida County, N.Y. at the former Corn Hill Methodist Church. Originally "transcribed through the courtesy of Rev. Roger F. Williams of the Northern New York Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church." Copied by Alice Payne Garder (Mrs. Henry) of Utica for the General Winfield Scott branch NSDAR, West Winfield, 1942. It was noted in the original D.A.R. transcription (1942) that the church was "now South Street M.E. Church". All spellings and question marks are exactly as in the typescript. The transcriber, Mrs. Alice Payne Garder, stated that some of the pages were difficult to read so spellings are her interpretation.

Facts related by Eliz. were that her father died in an accident while her mother was pregnant with her. Haven't been able to prove this but have no reason to doubt it. After Patrick's death she married Cronshaw and lived in Rochester NY. It's been said that Mr. Cronshaw was a widower with children and Hannah had 6. Also I remember something about a child born to Hannah and Cronshaw who died young.

Notes for Edward Richmond:
Captain Edward Richmond was born about 1632, and probably before his father came to this country. He married, first, Ab igail, daugther of James Davis, and secondly, Amy Bull, daugther of Governor Henry and Elizabeth Bull. He died Nov. 169 6.
The order of births is not known, but it is believed that the above is very nearly, if not accurately, correct.
He and his wife Amy joined in a deed, August 20, 1685.
He conveyed, Feb. 16, 1691-2, to Henry Bull, his "Father-in-law" and "Grandfather of my two youngest children," certai n land in trust for them and "my now wife, Amy," referring in it to a deed to his son Edward, made May20, 1686.
The inventory of his estate was filed Dec. 8, 1696, and on the 25th of the same month his estate was divided among Edwa rd, eldest son: son John, for himself and his sister, Abigail Remington: William Palmer, John Palmer, Silvester Richmon d, Sarah Richmond and Thomas Burdges. (The two Palmers and Burdges(Burgess) were husbands of his daugthers.)
The executors of Henry Bull (who died January 22, 1693-4), settled an account, March 2, 1709, in which they reported pa yment of Henry and Ann Richmond's legacy of L60.
On May 20, 1657, Abigail Davis petitioned the Assembly, alleging that her step-father John Cowdall and her mother had f orced her into marriage with Richard Ussell, and later in the same year the Assembly declared that the marriage was unl awful and that she was free to marry Edward Richmond, whom she declared in her petition to be her choice.
When old Portsmouth was divided and Newqport organized, Portsmouth was reorganized, and James Davice (Davis) signed (b y his mark), April 30, 1639, forming "the body politick" of Portsmouth; and in the list of tthe inhabitants of Acquedni c Island (who had such by consent of the government), dated Sept. 1, 1640, James Davis's name appears; it does not appe ar again as there were no other of the name (save, possibly, Nicholas, who lived till 16710, it would seem that he wa s the father of Abigail Davis, and at the time Abigail married Edward Richmond, he had died and his widow had married J ohn Cowall.
The following inscription is from the tombstone in the family cemetery on the old Richmond farm in Little Compton, Rhod e Island, bing the most ancient date on any tombstone in the town:

life in Ye 63D Year of his age, Nov. 1696.

IV) Peleg Richmond, son of Colonel Silvester Richmond, was born at Little Compton, Rhode Island, October 25, 1700, die d August 13, 1783. On June 25, 1733, he and his wife Mary, of Barrington, conveyed property "belonging to estate of ou r mother, Mary Pierce," lands in Boston held in partnership with heirs of John Rogers, of Barrington, deceased. He live d in Barrington, Rhode Island, settling there after 1767. He is buried on Prince's Hill, in Barrington. His will was da ted in 1767, in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. proved November 10, 1783. In 1855 his grandson Ichabod was living on his farm . He married (first) December 14, 1727, his cousin, Patience Palmer, daughter of William and Mary (Richmond) Palmer. Sh e was born February 19, 1704, died December 27, 1728. He married (second) January, 1733, Mary Viall, widow of James Via ll, and daughter of John and Mary (Cobbam) Pierce. James Viall, of Barrington, died early in 1731, leaving Mary and fou r children. She died April 19, 1781, aged seventy-seven years. Child by first wife: Gamaliel, born in Little Compton. A pril 24, 1728. Children by second wife, born in Barrington: Peleg, March 5, 1734, died young; James, baptized August 17 , 1735, probably died young; John Rogers, mentioned below; Mary, September 3, 1740; Elizabeth, married Amos Bicknell, o f Ashford; Sarah, married (???)
