EAST MILLINOCKET – Stephen M. York Jr., 36, went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, from a Millinocket hospital, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born March 8, 1975, in Vista, Calif., the son of Stephen M. and Laurie M. York, and Joyce and Butch Smith.
Stephen was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1994. He was a three-sport athlete throughout his high school career, particularly excelling at soccer. Stephen was proud to have been a part of the 1994 State Champion Basketball Schenck Wolverines team that went 22-0. He received his vocational training in Chicopee, Mass., and was a welder by trade. After completing his training, he worked in Indiana, where he met his wife, Willow Robertson. Stephen was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and spent many hours riding wherever the road would take him. He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend to all who knew him, and will be remembered as a straight shooter, as well as a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and the Los Angeles Lakers.
In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by the two great loves of his life, his wife, Willow York and their daughter, Ava Meridian York; his two best friends, his brothers, Jason York and his wife, Heather, and Donnie "Bubba" York and his wife, Nicole, all of East Millinocket; a sister, Nicole Cox and her husband, Robbie, of Medway; a sister-in-law, Dawn Smith and her husband, Jon, and their son, Nathan, of Salem, Ind.; grandparents, Donald "Tata" and Gloria "Gogo" Hendsbee of East Millinocket, Lucille Whitworth of English, Ind., and Betty McLaughlin of Medway; a special friend, Johnny Cibula of Prince George, Va.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by grandparents, Guy and Josephine York, Lloyd Whitworth, and Albert Van Dine; his parents-in-law, William Robertson and Janice Lucy; and a cousin, Jeremy Hendsbee.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 2 Orchard St., East Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, with the Rev. Reggie Adams, pastor, and the Rev. Dottie Hutch officiating. Gifts in memory of Stephen may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at

General Notes: Husband - Samuel Savage
Per both 1850 and 1870 Census- Samuel shown as a farmer.
Found a Samuel Savage in 1830 Census for Livingston, York, NY. Showed one male 20-30 (?) Samuel 30-40 and one female 20-30 which could be his wife Zilpha. Somehow I doubt this is the correct Samuel. His first child born in NY was born in 1834. In Vermont, the only Samuel shown is this one's father. Perhaps they're living with other relatives? That's doubtful as he's the eldest son...
Another ancestry.com user claims Samuel died in 1871. Also claims more children- Sarah, Serepta, Harriet, Delight, Anna Burniese, Floras Finley, Abigail and Orpha. Thomas is not mentioned.
General Notes: Wife - Zilpha
Per 1850 Census- Zilpha can't read or write.
Per 1870 Census- Zilpha can't write.
Another Ancestry.com user claims Zilpha's maiden name was Gillett, and that she died abt. March 1879.
General Notes: Child - Wealthy Savage
Another ancestry.com user claims this is Wealtha, born 1832, died 1864.
General Notes: Child - Sylva Savage
Another ancestry.com user claims this is Sylvia.
General Notes: Child - David W. Savage
Per 1870 Census- shown as farmer. Same with 1880 Census.
General Notes: Child - Matthew Savage
Per 1870 Census- Shown as farmer. Also indicates he can't read or write.
General Notes: Child - Bruce Savage
Per 1870 Census- shown as farmer.

Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1660 by Peter Wilson Coldham (Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, MD) FTM CD no. 350
With approximately 140,000 names, this CD contains the most comprehensive list ever published of the men, women, and children who emigrated from England to America between 1607 and 1776. It includes the texts of six books by Peter Wilson Coldham: The Complete Book of Emigrants (four volumes), along with The Complete Book of Emigrants in Bondage and its supplement. Peter Wilson Coldham, the foremost authority on early English emigration, compiled this data from a myriad of original English sources over several decades. The Genealogical Publishing Company in Baltimore, Maryland, provided Coldham's texts for electronic publication.
"This is a heroic attempt to bring together from English sources a complete list of emigrants to the New World from 1607 to 1660. No doubt records of passengers leaving for America were kept in this period, but while no systematic record has survived, the remaining records are substantial. Some were collected and published by John Camden Hotten over 100 years ago, and they were the passenger lists he found in the British State Papers. Since then a great many sources have been found and the time has been long overdue for these facts to be assembled in one comprehensive book.
Hence the publication of this work by the English scholar Peter Wilson Coldham, the leading authority on early English emigration records. His book is a reworking of the Chancery records and records of the Exchequer, the 1624 and 1625 censuses of Virginia, the records of licenses and examination of persons wishing to "pass beyond the seas." To Hotten's basic list, which he has revised and augmented to 1668, Coldham has added fascinating records of vagrants, waifs, and prostitutes who were transported to the colonies. He has also added new transcriptions of records--not in Hotten--of servants sent to "foreign plantationes" from Bristol, 1654-1660. And he has added much more from port books, court records, and from any types of official papers and documents. As a result this book is a stupendous achievement," p. 468.

Charles Edward Banks, Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants to New England 1620-1650 (Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., 1976)
This "Dictionary" comprises genealogical records of nearly 3,000 emigrants, giving their English homes, names of ships in which they sailed, towns in which they settled in New England, and references to the printed or manuscript sources from which the information derived. In collecting data for this work, Col. Banks made seven visits to England, searching the records of nearly 2,000 parishes in order to connect the New England immigrants with their native parishes. Additional information is provided in a series of indexes: Index to Emigrants to New England; Index of the Wives and Children of the Emigrants; Index of Parishes; Index of Ships; and Index of Towns in New England, p. 56.
