RENA (VOISINE) LAFERRIER
FORT KENT - Rena (Voisine) Laferrier, 89, died April 14, 2006, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 18, 1916, Fort Kent, the daughter of Fred and Delia (Theriault) Voisine. Rena was a devoted mother, home maker and was very close to her family. One of her favorite past times was sewing and being there for her family, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by one son, Aurelle "JR" Laferrier and his wife, Lucy, of Plainville, Conn.; seven daughters, Maryland Harvey of Fort Kent, Jacqueline Theriault of Fort Kent, Lou Caron and her husband, Rauol, of Fort Kent, Stella Smith and her husband, Richard, of Bristol, Conn., Betty Ann Gagnon and her husband, Roger, of Fort Kent, Greta Morneault and her husband, Clifford, of Frenchville and Rita "Bobbie" Coulombe and her husband, Clayton, of Daigle and Homestead, Fla.; two sisters, Egline Charette of Fort Kent, Alma Cyr of Millinocket; 22 grandchildren, Julie, Shelly, Lisa, Jessica, Alex, Benita, Mark, Jay, Linda, Connie, Carl, Debbie, Dale, Gary, Sherrie, Todd, Elaine, Carol, Danny, Jason, Vickie and Mariya; 19 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Courtney, Erik, Patrick, Shelly, Danny, Stephane, Kris, Ryan, Lance, Lee, Randy, Cody, Stephanie, Desiree, Michelle, Sean, Thomas and Michael; three great-great-grandchildren, Brody, Vance and Noah. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to both parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Aurelle Laferriere Sr. in 1983; one son, Arnold Laferriere in 1983; and one brother, Alcide Voisine. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent. Those who wish in her memory may donate to the Forest Hill Manor Activities, Forest Hill Manor, 25 Bolduc Ave., Fort Kent, ME 04743. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Octave married Delia Caron, daughter of Denis Caron, Sr. and Celina Lang on July 26, 1909 in Daigle, Maine, USA. Papere and mamere kept animals. They had cows, pigs, sheep and chicken. Mamere took care of them. They killed them in the fall and canned them. When mamere canned, the meat, after she boiled the meat, she would trun the jar upside down to help seal the jar tighter. Papere wasa farmer. When picking potatoes, they would put all their potatoes in barrelsand put these on a truck and then transported these potatoes to the house where they were stgored. The rest of the potatoes were brought to town, by horse-driven wagon to be sold. This was about eight miles. They did one load a day.
While papere was farming, he also drove the children to school in "une boite d"ecole". This was heated by wood to keep the children warm. To pay him they would give papere vouchers so he could get some food downtown. The following dayma-mere went downtown to get the food. They shopped once a month. It took them a day to go to and from home.
In the winter, pa-pere went three months in the woods. During that time, pa-pere did the "drive" where he would stand on the logs to send them down the river where it would get to the woodmill. They would then make "des planches" to sell.
Pa-pere remarried Anna Pelletier in 1951.
Pa-pere died at the age of 83. He was supposed to come out of the hospital but had a stroke and died.

Leo Paul Manter, 54, of 1010 Woodruff St died at the Bristol
Convalescent Home
after a short illness.
Born Jan 9, 1924 in Fort Fairfield, Maine., the son of the late Loren and
Annie Michaud Manter, he lived in Southington for the past 14 years.
He was a former chef at Mario's Old Cromwell Inn. He served in the US Army
during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Kiltonic Post American Legion.
and was a past commander of the post. He was a member ofChef's Assn of Connecticut.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Boucher Manter; his step-mother,
Hazel Manter, two sons Wayne and Thomas Manter, two sisters Bernice
Gallagher and Albertine Johnson. all of southington and several neices and nephews.
Millitary funeral service were held Wednesday Aug 2 at Della Vecchia Funeral Home
The Rev Walter Geraghty of St Dominic Church officiated Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
