I exchange data with people who have a interlocking marriage
into any surnames that interlocks into any of the branches
of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.
I am sharing my data in the interest of collaborative research.
I do this to help people to find there lineages and to fill
the pedigree charts.
I have not personally researched all families listed; dates
and information are subject to verification. Not responsible
for typographical errors misplaced citations. Missing
sources/references are because of my learning curve, not my
intention. You are encouraged to seek further documention
for your own confirmation.Further I have no control what
other people include about their families in any of the
data that they exchange.
If there are no dates about the living, then the computers
can not determine if the person is alive or deceased.
The sites set the living anywhere from 75 to 100 years
depending on the laws of the countries that they are in.
When I exchange with lineages the living are sometime shown
depending on who you are exchanging with, but my
request is that,if you update any of my data to the
internet, you also set the do not show the living, before
you update to the internet.
Also place in the source your contact email
address, and the lineage, so people can contact you
reqarding your update.
I have no claim to owning the data, except that which is
my immediate lineage, and even that is worked on by many
members of my family lineages. It is only as good as what
people put into it,that exchange with me. So look
in the notes of the genealogy for origin, if they put it
there,or the source.
If you are going to correct, update or put new branches on the
lineage your are inquirying about, please do not add from what
I have sent you,(This just duplicates how many more people
I have to find in the duplicates and merge them, edit your
notes to ensure that there is nothing there that you do not
want published.
Also do not submit information on copyrights that invades the
privacy of others especially for a relative that has not given
you permission to publish same.
Remember nothing is carved in stone except time.
The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriages, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 631,749 people via interlocking
marriages.
My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.

Payson Cemetery records at http://www.payson.org/CemP.shtml (now at http://history.utah.gov/apps/burials/execute/searchburials) give his birthdate as December 19, 1875, death date 16 Nov 1930, and his brother William H. "Willie"'s birthdate as October 19, 1875, death date 20 Oct 1875. Both birthdates can't be correct. Were they twins?
The IGI says that Pardon Edward Pepper was born 29 Dec 1874 (perhaps both the day and year are incorrect in the cemetery record).

birth and death dates for Willie Pepper were left blank in Payson City Cemetery records, but another record for William H. General Notes: Husband - William Charles Wightman
William Charles Wightman was raised in Kirtland, OH, by his uncle Charles Billings Wightman after his parents (William Wightman and Dolly Eaton) died of malaria near Nauvoo, Illinois. William Charles was trained as a blacksmith and carriage maker by his uncle. He immigrated to Utah when he was 21 years old. Later owned the Wightman Hotel in Payson, Utah, and became very prosperous.
UTAH SINCE STATEHOOD (4 volumes, publ. 1919)
excerpt from a biography of his son Doctor Roy Wightman, p. 186:
"His father, W. C. Wightman, a native of New York, was born near Buffalo, in Erie county, in 1833, and is now living at Payson. He came to Utah in 1852 and made his way first to Salt Lake, after which he removed to Payson, where he engaged in blacksmithing for a time. He later turned his attention to farming and also became proprietor of Hotel Payson. He is now living retired, enjoying a rest which he has richly earned and well deserves. The mother of D. R. Wightman was Lucretia Jane Pepper, of Quincy, Illinois, prior to her marriage. She crossed the plains in an early day and became the wife of W. C. Wightman in Salt Lake. They had a family of sixteen children, ten of whom are living. The mother departed this life in 1906."
excerpt from a biography of his son William C. Wightman, Jr., p. 498:
"His father (William C. Wightman) is a native of the state of New York and came to Utah in 1854. The mother (Lucretia J. Pepper) was born in Quincy, Illinois, and she traveled westward with the same ox train in which Mr. Wightman made the journey to Utah. They were married in Salt Lake City in 1855 and there Mr. Wightman took up blacksmithing. During the summer of that year he removed to Payson, where he opened the first blacksmith shop. In 1863 he went with cattle for emigrants, thus assisting people of his faith in reaching Utah. In 1865 he was called to aid in settling the Muddy--a district that was soon afterward awarded to Nevada with the establishment of the boundary line between the two states. Owing to the sandy soil there was great difficulty in maintaining the irrigation ditches, so that Mr. Wightman and his companions who were colonizing that district were released and he returned to Payson, where he is still living at the advanced age of eighty-six years. The mother, however, died in 1906. Their children were William C., Martha Jane, Lucretia Ann, Mary, Lyman E., Harry P., Frank, Roy and Rolla. (Utah Since Statehood: Historical and Biographical. Volume IV)
========================================
William Charles Wightman wrote:
"My brother, mother, Uncle Charles, and Aunt Jane moved to Kirtland the fall of 1835. They could not rent a house in Kirtland so they moved to Willowby Bridge, four miles from the Kirtland Temple."
William Charles Wightman's uncle Charles Billings Wightman, as well as C.B. Wightman's brothers William and Erastus (who had come to Kirtland with their families in 1836), were ordained Elders in 1836, received their anointings (a partial endowment), assisted in building the Kirtland Temple, and participated in its dedication in 1836. Charles Billings Wightman was ordained a Seventy in 1837 and served a mission at that time. William Wightman, his wife Dolly Eaton and their children William Charles (b. 1833), Lyman Eaton (b. 1835), David Moroni (b. 1839) and Mary Jane (b. 1843), moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, where William was called to be bishop or president of the "Crooked Creek branch" of the LDS Church at Ramus, Illinois. It was sometimes called a "stake" in early church records.
In 1843, William Charles Wightman was orphaned when his parents William and Dolly Eaton Wightman died of the yellow fever or swamp fever (malaria) near Nauvoo. He stayed with some other relatives for a time, then in 1849 William Charles came back to Kirtland to live with his uncle Charles Billings Wightman's family and help in the blacksmith shop. William Charles Wightman's father, William Wightman, was an older brother of Charles Billings Wightman. After William and Dolly Eaton Wightman died, their four children each went to different families in different states; the other three were raised by non-LDS relatives and never came to Utah.
William Charles wrote:
"When I was sixteen years old I went to work in a blacksmith shop for Uncle Charley (Charles Billings Wightman was a blacksmith and carriage maker); and stayed with him until the 24th of April, 1854. I could not have been treated better by my own father ..... About 1850 Uncle put up a large cut stone house and lived in it until 1862, then he and Chris Dixon and families came on to Utah."
In the spring of 1854, when he was almost 21, William Charles Wightman left from his uncle's home in Kirtland and went to Utah, taking with him Charles Dixon and wife Elizabeth Humphrey Dixon (who were 88 and 76 yrs. old), their daughter Jane Dixon Pepper, 43, and Jane's children Lucretia, 14, and Charley Pepper, who all wanted to emigrate to Utah. The Dixons and Peppers were no direct relation to William Charles Wightman, because they were in-laws of his uncle Charles Billings Wightman (Charles and Elizabeth Humphrey Dixon were the parents of Charles Billings Wightman's wife, Mary Ann Dixon). Lucretia Jane Pepper would later become William Charles Wightman's wife.

Their children are named William Charles, Martha Jane, Lucretia Anna, Mary Elizabeth, Lyman Eaton, Harrison Pepper, Frank Lynville, Doctor Roy, Ben Rolla and Valentine Charles. TREASURES OF PIONEER HISTORY (1952), Vol. 1Early Business and Professional WomenBusiness and Professional Women of Payson, Utah County:
Lucretia Jane Rust* Wightman was born in Quincy, Ill., February 19, 1841**. She received her education at the Western Reserve Teachers Seminary. She with her family came to Utah in 1854 and moved to Payson in 1856. Mrs. Wightman carried on several lines of business. About 1870, she had a little frame store on 1st North and 1st East. Here she sold organs, pianos and sewing machines. She had two ponies and a little buggy. The buggy was just large enough to hold a sewing machine back of the seat. She took one of her children to drive the ponies, and traveled to Eureka, Nephi, and Provo, selling sewing machines. Her son, D. R. Wightman tells the following humorous narrative: "Two sewing machine agents selling the 'Wheeler and Wilson' machine, came to Payson. Mrs. Wightman, on learning they were in town, followed them around. They would leave one of their machines for the lady of the house to try out. After they left the home, she would go and leave one of her machines. Needless to say, the Wheeler and Wilson agents became very annoyed. So many people owed her for merchandise purchased, that in 1886 she decided to build a hotel and have those who owed her do the work. She built a three story building with a full dining room, kitchen, etc. They hired very good cooks, some were Negroes, some Chinese and some Americans. On the second floor were ten bed rooms and on the top were fifteen bed rooms. The top floor was never used, as business did not flourish enough. Traveling was very limited in those days, most of those staying at the hotel were traveling salesmen, or drummers. They would exhibit their wares in the banquet hall, and the merchants would call there to see them.
*her maiden name was actually Pepper. Lucretia's father, George Harrison Pepper, died in Quincy, Illinois, January 11, 1852. After coming to Utah in 1854, Lucretia's mother, Jane Dixon, remarried to William W. Rust.
**other researchers give Lucretia's birthdate as February 19, 1840 in Quincy. Not sure which year is correct, but probably 1841 because in the 1900 census, Lucretia herself said her birthdate was Feb. 1841.
=========================================
William Charles Wightman and his wife Lucretia Jane Pepper built The WIGHTMAN HOTEL (also called the Hotel Wightman, or the Hotel Payson) in Payson, Utah, in 1886, and ran it for a number of years. It was said to be the largest and finest hotel in the territory south of Salt Lake City. It was located at the southwest corner of First East and First North streets in Payson. The hotel was an impressive 3-story building of red brick. Hacks met passenger trains at both depots in town and brought them to the Wightman Hotel. Negro waiters and porters were a mark of the elegance of the place ... Mrs. Wightman was a talented actress and community leader. In 1892 she was elected president of the Woman's Suffrage Association of Payson. She also went into raising silkworms for the production of silk, as did many of the women of the territory. Mulberry trees were planted for shade, and the leaves were fed to the worms. "She had silkworms eating mulberry leaves all over the place. You could hear the crunch of leaves as they fed," recalled her granddaughter Dollie Wightman Nelson, in 1972. Dollie also said that her grandparents kept a gila monster (a poisonous lizard) in a cage. Then, too, they had a monkey that was prone to run away. Often it got into the home of Bishop John Huish, who lived nearby. His children were terrified and would hide from the monkey until Mrs. Huish sent one of her brood to ask the owners to "Come and get that darned monkey again!"

ANOTHER SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF LUCRETIA JANE PEPPER WIGHTMAN (author unknown):
"Lucretia graduated from the North Western Seminary where she received a degree in music.
Lucretia opened a millenery shop in Payson, Utah, where she made and sold beautiful hats to women.
She opened a music store which developed into a prosperous business.
Lucretia planted mulberry trees and raised silk worms from which the silk was spun into threads then woven into fabric. (From the silk) she designed and made her daughter, Lucretia Anna's wedding dress and accessories. The dress is on display in the LDS Church museum at the present time.
She owned and operated a successful three-story Hotel in Payson and served as landlady.
She assisted in operating an opera house and played in many productions. She memorized many of the Shakespeare's plays and taught them to her grandchildren.
Lucretia held many Church positions in many of the Church Organizations especially the Young Women's organization. She was a wonderful role model for them. She was very ambitious for her children and family to receive a good education."

UTAH SINCE STATEHOOD (4 volumes, publ. 1919), p. 498-499:
William C. Wightman, Jr.
"William C. Wightman, Jr., engineer with the Spring Canyon Coal Company at Storrs, thus representing the Jesse Knight interests, was born in Payson, Utah, May 22, 1856, a son of William C. and Lucretia J. (Pepper) Wightman. The father is a native of the state of New York and came to Utah in 1854. The mother was born in Quincy, Illinois, and she traveled westward with the same ox train in which Mr. In 1865 he was called to ald in settling the Muddy--a district that was soon afterward awarded to Nevada with the establishment of the boundary line between the two states. William C. Wightman, Jr., began his education in the public schools of Payson and afterward spent two years as a student under Warren and Wilson Duzenberry, who were noted educators of that day, at Provo. When his textbooks were put aside he took up the occupation of farming, which he followed until 1880 and then began railroading, having charge of an engine for twenty years. Upon leaving the road he took charge of the electric light plant at Payson, remaining as manager in that position for ten years. He made a trip to Arizona as head machinist and there took charge of the Keystone mine but returned to Payson in 1907 on account of his mother's death. He was next employed by Jesse Knight as a mechanic at the smelter and mine at Tintic. In 1912 the Utah Fuel Company was having trouble to install and operate a large pump--the largest which up to that time had ever been brought to Utah. Mr. Wightman was sent for to correct this trouble, the pump being at Range Creek, near Sunnyside. He was successful in accomplishing the task and operated the pump for several years. He then came to Storrs, again in the employ of Jesse Knight, and is still operating for the Spring Canyon Coal Company, one of the Knight interests. He is an engineer of recognized ability and his position is an important one. As he has prospered he has made judicious investments in real estate and is now the owner of a whole block in Payson, where he also has a comfortable home. On the 24th of May, 1875, in Salt Lake City, Mr. Wightman was married to Miss Harriet S. Jones, a daughter of James M. and Mary Ann (Partridge) Jones. Her father was born in England, January 1, 1817, and her mother in New York on the 11th of March, 1823. They came to Utah in the early '50s and Mr. Jones was well acquainted with the prophet Joseph Smith at Nauvoo and did much work for him. He lived to a ripe old age and for years was known as "Grandpa" Jones throughout Payson, where he eventually passed away after a very extended residence there from the period of its early development and colonization. Mrs. Wightman was one of a family of four children, the others being James M., Eliza J. and Amasa L. To Mr. and Mrs. Wightman have been born thirteen children of whom seven are still living. Harriet S., born October 10, 1879, is the wife of Professor Milton H. Ross and they have four living children. Laura Ethel, born March 13, 1881, is the wife of Dr. N. C. Spaulding and they have four living children. Cynthia Lapearl, born May 13, 1884, married Fred S. Davis and their family numbers five children. Genevieve, born June 27, 1891, is the wife of Dr. Cyrus W. Elsworth and has two children. Dollie, born July 7, 1893, is the wife of Professor Carl O. Nelson and has three children. Lucile, born January 1, 1897, is the wife of Professor Glen Simmons, who joined the Marines during the World war. Leslie Orlynn, born July 3, 1899, joined the army in June, 1917, and was quarantined three different times, thus delaying his going overseas. He served with the Marines in the Eleventh Division and this company was practically wiped out in the battle of the Marne. Leslie O., however, returned home in April, 1919. Mr. (William Charles) Wightman is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled a mission to the southern states in 1876 and 1877. He held the position of a Seventy for thirty years and for twelve years was senior president of the quorum. He is now a member of the High Priests' Quorum and at one time he and four of his daughters were officers and teachers in the Sunday school. In politics he is a republican and for three terms has served as a member of the city council of Payson, exercising his official prerogatives in support of all well defined plans and measures for the general good. Advancement has actuated him at every point in his career. He has made steady progress in business and at the same time he has contributed largely and helpfully to the upbuilding of the church and the advancement of public interests."

General Notes: Child - Martha Jane Wightman
Martha Jane Wightman and Horace Anzolet Curtis, both of Payson, were married on 3 May 1875. They lived in Payson until 1899, where all seven of their children were born. In 1899 they moved to Mexico, and later to Pirtleville, Arizona. Following her husband's death in 1921, Martha Jane lived with her son William in Pirtleville until her death in 1931. She is buried in the Cavalry Cemetery (City of Douglas Cemetery), Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona.
Records:
Mrs. Martha J. Curtis was elected first vice-president of the Red Cross Society at Payson Utah on June 15, 1898 (see http://udn.lib.utah.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=/slt18&CISOPTR=7685&CISOSHOW=7692&CISOSHOW2=7769 ). Other articles show that she was also involved in the Republican party and other social organizations.
Not found in 1900 and 1910 U.S. censuses -- I had suspected they were in Mexico during this time, and found records confirming it. Their son William's WWI draft card and the 1930 census indicated that he worked on a cattle ranch in Mexico. I also located the following article, confirming that they moved to Mexico in 1899:
DAVIS COUNTY CLIPPER, December 22, 1899:
"The long expected company of Mexico colonists started from Payson, Utah, over the Short Line for the state of Chihuahua, December 15. A few visitors accompanied them to look at the country, and will remain during the winter. The following is a list by families: Abraham Done and family of ten, James E. Jones, jr., and family of four; Amasa L. Jones and family of five; Mrs. Louise Abegg and family of four; MRS. MARTHA CURTIS* AND FAMILY OF FOUR**, S. A. Hunsaker and family of five; Lorenzo A. Huish and son, Edward A. Huish and son, Joseph S. Douglas, John Done, sr., and wife, Henry C. Tanner, Niels Frederickson.
There were four cars, loaded with twenty-four horses, eight vehicles and wagons, household goods and machinery, and one emigrant car for the passengers.
Charles Patten and wife and James A. Daniels left over the Rio Grande on the early train this morning, making a total of forty-four persons from Payson and neighborhood most of whom will locate at Emanuel Dublan, of which ward Elder S. J. Robinson has lately been installed bishop, with Joseph Cordon first and A. B. Call second counselors. Bishop Robinson is from Payson.
This place (Payson) seems to be the mother of new settlements, as there is no room here to expand and make new homes. People have emigrated from here to all points of the compass."

*Apparently Horace A. Curtis had gone to Mexico earlier in the year 1899; Martha Jane followed with the children.
**the oldest two daughters, Cora and Ethel, were already married, so the four children who accompanied their mother to Mexico were apparently Czar A., 17, Martha Jennie, 15, Emma May, 13, and Charlotte, 6. The oldest son, William W., had apparently gone earlier with his father.

*Jane Elizabeth Day, daughter of William Day and Mary Ann Leonard, married William Charles Wightman twice. The first time was on 22 Mar 1862, as his 2nd wife in the principle of plural marriage (polygamy), which was practiced at that time. She was living with him & his first wife and family in the 1870 census, but was living next door (by herself) when the 1880 census was taken. By 1900 the Mormon church had outlawed the practice of polygamy, and in that census, Jane was still living nearby William C. Wightman and his first wife, but was listed as a "widow" (even though William was still living). After William Charles Wightman's first wife Lucretia died in 1907, he and Jane E. Day were married for a second time, on 15 Feb 1908 in Payson, Utah (see http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/westernStates/westernStatesRecordDetail.cfm?recordID=389665). PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF ARIZONA (1901), p. 247-248:
L. E. WIGHTMAN, M.D.
"The professional career of Dr. Wightman has centered in Pima and throughout the entire Gila valley, his practice naturally assuming, with the lapse of time, large and constantly increasing proportions. A most capable practitioner, and one in touch with the best methods employed by the followers of Aesculapius in the largest and most advanced centers of the world, he is not wanting in the appreciation which stimulates the best endeavor, nor in that skill in treatment and diagnosis which inspires the utmost confidence in the community.
At Payson, Utah, where he was born May 7, 1869, Dr. Wightman received a portion of his education, attending Iliff Academy and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, later graduating from the Northwestern University, Chicago, in the class of 1894. His parents were W. C. and Lucretia J. (Pepper) Wightman, the former born in New York, and the latter in Quincy, Ill. After graduation Dr. Wightman immediately availed himself of the promise and possibility of the Gila valley, and although having his headquarters from the first in Pima, he for a year had charge of the county hospital at Solomonville, and at the same time worked up a practice through the valley. In 1896 he started, in partnership with a brother, H. P., the pioneer and only drug store in Pima, and which up to the present time has been one of the sound commercial enterprises of the town. In 1900 the doctor withdrew his drug interests and the concern has since been under control of the younger Wightman, who the following year erected the substantial brick store and completed a stock which has not equal in the valley.
As an evidence of his abiding faith in prospects by which he is surrounded Dr. Wightman purchased an adobe house which, upon being remodeled and covered with wood, is an exceedingly pretty and comfortable abode, and where gracious hospitality is unstintingly dispensed. The office is located in the residence, and is in every way suited to the practice of a progressive and up-to-date ameliorator of physical woes. An X-ray machine and electrical and compressed-air appliances are among the modern and late devices of a scientific nature which aid in the search for, and suppression of, anatomical disorder, and which facilitate the arduous duties incident to a practice which extends from Safford to Geronimo. He is now making a specialty of electro-therapeutics in his practice.
In 1895 Dr. Wightman married Janie Weech, and of this union there are two children, William Dewey and an infant daughter, Marval. Mrs. Wightman is a daughter of Hiram and Sarah Weech, of Pima. Dr. Wightman has been prominent in many ways not connected with his profession. In politics a Republican, he was elected mayor of Pima in 1898, and has been in the council for two years. In addition he is examining physician for the Mutual Life Insurance Company, the Equitable Life, and the New York Life, and surgeon for the Gila Valley, Globe & Northern Railroad."

PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF ARIZONA (1901), p. 461-462:
H. P. WIGHTMAN
"Among the young business men of promise who are helping to build up a permanent prosperity for Pima, none is held in higher esteem, nor have any brighter prospects than Mr. Wightman. Engaged in an occupation for which there is invariably a demand, he is conducting the largest and the pioneer drug industry in the town, and has won a large and ever-increasing patronage from all those who appreciate correct business methods and a sincere desire to please.
The early associations of Mr. Wightman are centered around Payson, Utah, where he was born in 1871, a son of W. C. and Lucretia J. (Pepper) Wightman, natives respectively of New York and Quincy, Ill. In the pursuit of an education he attended the public schools and what is now the University of Utah, later graduating from the department of pharmacy, Northwestern University, of Chicago. As a field for future effort he wisely selected Pima, locating here immediately after his graduation. Armed with his pharmacy certificate and a knowledge of the jewelry business which he had learned in Salt Lake City, he had at his command occupations readily combined and of a substantial nature. His drug interests were carried on in connection with his brother, Dr. L. E. Wightman, and in the jewelry business he carried a complete line of things in connection therewith, and ran a general repair shop. In 1898 he bought out his brother's share in the business and at the time they were occupying the store originally owned by the doctor. In 1898 H. P. Wightman erected the fine brick store, necessitated by the increase of trade, and it is stocked with the largest and most complete drug supply in the Gila valley.
September 18, 1899, Mr. Wightman married Maud Sims, a daughter of S. J. and Susan Sims, the former of whom is a prominent merchant and contractor, and one of the very early settlers of Pima. He is prominent in the church, and is stake superintendent of the Sunday-school. Mrs. Wightman is the fifth daughter of the family. Though not active in local politics Mr. Wightman believes in the government of the Republican party. However, he would invariably vote for the man best qualified to fill the position. With his brother, Dr. Wightman, he is interested in mining in the San Carlos strip, and in this connection has been fairly successful. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is assistant stake secretary of the Sunday-school."

UTAH SINCE STATEHOOD (4 volumes, publ. 1919), p. 186:
D. R. Wightman
"D. R. Wightman, proprietor of one of the leading drug stores of Springville, was born in Payson, Utah, February 27, 1878. His father, W. The mother departed this life in 1906. In the public schools of Payson D. R. Wightman pursued his early education and afterward became a student in the Michigan State University at Ann Arbor. He next entered the University of Utah and was active in athletic circles there, largely promoting the athletic interests of the school. He won his Ph. G. degree by successfully passing an examination before the state pharmaceutical board of Arizona and he is a member of the Utah Pharmaceutical Association. For a few years he was associated with A. C. Smith, of Salt Lake City, conducting the old Rio Grande store, of which he had charge. He then removed to Eureka, where he also engaged in the drug business, and later he spent three years in Globe, Arizona, where he established a drug store, in which he owned a half interest. Eventually he sold his business there and returned to Springville, where he opened a fine drug store, of which he is now the owner. He has a well appointed store, carries an extensive line of drugs and druggists' sundries and his business is a large and gratifying one. On January 1, 1900, Mr. Wightman was married to Miss Anna L. Warthen, of Springville, a daughter of A. B. and Eliza Warthen, early residents of Springville. They now have four children: Mabel, fourteen years of age, who is attending high school; Josephine, nine years of age, a pupil in the public schools; William Albert, aged seven, also in school; and Richard, who is five years of age. D. R. Wightman is a prominent member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, has filled all of the chairs in the local lodge and has served as district deputy grand. In politics he maintains an independent course and never seeks office, preferring to concentrate his efforts and attention upon his business. affairs, and the Central Drug Store is a beautiful double store which well merits the liberal patronage accorded it."

General Notes: Child - Valentine Charles Wightman
(His middle name was Charles, according to a book entitled HISTORY OF CHARLES DIXON, ONE OF THE EARLY ENGLISH SETTLERS OF SACKVILLE, N. B. (NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA), COMPILED BY JAMES D. DIXON, A GRANDSON, SACKVILLE, N. B., 1891, p.81 (see http://home.comcast.net/~montemac/yorkshire2000/charles-dixon-book.html ). I haven't found any other confirmation of this, but probably is accurate, because apparently the family in Utah sent this information in 1891 to their relatives in Canada.
Valentine was an old ancestral name in the Wightman family -- going back to at least the 1500's in England. Valentine C. was apparently named after his 2nd great-grandfather, (Deacon) Valentine Wightman, who died in Bozrah, New London, Connecticut in 1814. (Dea.) Valentine Wightman was in turn named after his grandfather, (Rev.) Valentine Wightman, who died in Groton, Connecticut in 1747.

"Val" Wightman had a homestead in Duchesne County, Utah, and helped construct an "extensive copper mining plant" nearby (see the book EARLY HISTORY OF DUCHESNE COUNTY by Duchesne Chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers). He became quite wealthy.
Unfortunately, he shot and seriously wounded the girl he had intended to marry, Miss Bell Brown of Randlett, Utah (who had called off the engagement), then ended his own life (see http://udn.lib.utah.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=/nverework&CISOPTR=53142&CISOSHOW=53143&CISOSHOW2=53160 and http://udn.lib.utah.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=/nverework&CISOPTR=53142&CISOSHOW=53147&CISOSHOW2=53187 and http://udn.lib.utah.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=/nverework&CISOPTR=72190&CISOSHOW=72194&CISOSHOW2=72233 )

First Percy to hold the Earl of Northumberland title.
Henry de Percy, 4th Lord Percy, of Alnwick, a distinguished military
commander in the reign of Edward III, who, assisting as marshal of
England at the coronation of King RichardII, was advanced on the same
day, 6 July, 1377, to the Earldom of Northumberland, with remainder to
his heirs generally, and, like a barony in fee, transmissible, it would
appear, to female as well as male heirs. He married 1st, 1358, Margaret,
daughter of Ralph, Lord Nevil, of Raby, and had issue. Henry, Thomas,
Ralph, Alan, and Margaret. The earl married 2ndly, Maud, sister and heir
of Anthony, Lord Lucy, which Anthony settled upon his lordship and his
heirs, the honour and castle of Cockermouth with other great estates, on
condition that her arms should be forever quarterd with those of the
Percys. In the 7th year of Richard II [1384], the earl having been
elected one of the knights of the Garter, the king bestowed upon him the
robes of the order out of the royal wardrobe. In some years afterwards,
however, being proclaimed a traitor, and his land declared forfeited by
King Richard, his lordship, in conjunction with his son, Sir Henry Percy,
surnamed Hotspur, and Henry, Duke of Lancaster, accomplished the
dethronement of that monarch and placed the crown upon the head of Henry,
Duke of Lancaster, under the title of Henry IV. In requital, the king
gave Percy the Isle of Man, by the tenure of carrying in the left hand
the sword (which he wore when he landed in Holderness) at the coronation
of himself and his successors. Against dissatisfied with the governemnt,
the ducke is charged with concerting the rebellion, in which his son,
Hotspur, and his brother, the Earl of Worcester, engaged, in 1403, for
transferring the sceptre to Mortimer, Earl of March, then a boy. Of these
two eminent persons, Sir Henry Percy, the renowned Hotspur, fell
performing prodigies of valour, at Battle-field, near Shrewsbury, 21
July, 1403, and Thomas Percy, Earl of Worcester, was beheaded after the
battle at Shrewsbury. The Earl of Northumberland fell subsequently (29
February, 1407-8), in arms against the king, at Bramham Moor, near
Haslewood, when his honour became forfeited under an attainder, but were
restored, in 1414, to his grandson (Hotspur's only son), Henry de Percy,
2nd Earl of Northumberland.

1st/4th Earl of Northumberland, 4th Lord Percy of Alnwick. He was brought
up at court by his uncle, the first duke of Lancaster. In August, 1359,
he was with the duke in France on the expedition which terminatedin the
peace of Bretigny. He was knighted before February 4, 1361/62. He wasa
Knight of the Garter about 1366. Until the summoer of 1372 he was
occupied in the North, with brief intervals at court. He attended Edward
III to Flanders in July, 1373, and took part in the duke of Lancaster's
historic march across France to Bordeaux, August to December, 1373. In
Parliament he was reckoned on the side of reform; his sympathies,
however, veered. In 1376 he was created marshal of England, and he was
summoned to Parliament as such on December 1, 1376. He was created earl
of Northumberland at the coronation of Richard II on July 16, 1377. From
1377 to 1389 he was mostly engaged on military and administrative
business on the Border. For nearly 20 years various causesof discontent
had been gradually estranging him from Richard II, and he played a
prominent part in procuring Richard's abdication, and probably his
subsequent death, and the elevation of Henry IV. On September 30, 1399,
the day of Henry's accession, he was created constable of
