The California Death Index (Ancestry.com) gives Frank Lynville Wightman's death date as 2 Nov 1956 in Los Angeles County, CA. The Ancestral File at www.familysearch.org gives his death date as 11 Feb 1956 (no location given). Apparently the month and day were switched in one of these records (11/2/1956 or 2/11/1956)....not sure which is correct, but probably 2 Nov 1956.
DAVIS COUNTY CLIPPER (Utah newspaper), 10 Nov 1899:
Bountiful Briefs
"Frank Wightman, of Salt Lake City, was in town Saturday. He was looking around with a view of starting a class in vocal music, provided there are enough who want to study, to justify. Mr. Wightman is a graduate from the university school of music, Ann Arbor, Michigan and taught music at the L.D.S. college last year. This year the college had no funds with which to pay a music teacher, so Prof. Stephens is teaching there free, and Mr. Wightman is giving private lessons."

John,
Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Charles Wyman was charged
with and plead guilty to murdering Maria Huff.
Maria died 25 Oct 1903 and I found her death cert at the LDS
library in SLC. The cause of death is "gunshot wound in head - murdered
byher husband".
Family lore claims that Dad took the rap to save a not quite with
it (mentally) son. I found articles in the Piscatiquis Observer on both
5 Nov 1903 and 3 Mar 1904. These articles were found on microfilm in the
Dover Foxcroft Library. The center of the film does not have the entire
column- it appears that the binding was too tight.
In the March article it says Mr.Wyman pleaded nolo contendere to
the charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to five years in state
prison.
The November article had more information about the actual event
but that one is the one that is hard to read. If and when I can get some
research time in Maine I would love to find the same article from
another film and perhaps it will be of better quality.
My husband is the son of Adeline Wyman (b. 1910) who was the
daughter of Danville Ledbetter Wyman (b. 1873). He was the son of
Charles. There are two Danville Ledbetters, the other was son of Henry
(b. 1832). That Danville served in the Civil War and was born 1832. You
can find some of my information about the Wymans on ancestry.com if you
search for Charles Wyman. That is where I found you.
Please let me know how you are related so I can add your links to
my file. I can send you a gedcom file if you can use that. I would love
to know how you are related to my Jerre.
Talk to you soon.

DESERET NEWS, Metro Section, Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996:
DID SNOWSTORM DISORIENT PILOT?
By Cala Byram and Jeff Vice, Staff Writers
Utah County sheriff's investigators believe a Hildale, Washington County, man who died when his single-engine plane crashed near the Point of the Mountain, may have become disoriented during a snowstorm.Charles H. Wyler, 63, was en route to Salt Lake City from St. George Monday when he apparently crashed the small craft approximately 2 miles north of Lehi. The man was expected to arrive in Salt Lake City at 5 p.m., but a snowstorm at that time may have contributed to the crash, said Dick Casto, emergency services division commander for the Utah County Sheriff's Office. The crash site was in the foothills east of the Point of the Mountain Flight Park near the Utah County/Salt Lake County border.Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Bennett said the Utah Civil Air Patrol was notified of a possible downed plane after an emergency locator transmitter was monitored by a U.S. Air Force satellite and pilots on passing jetliners about 8 p.m.One man reported seeing a low-flying aircraft in the area near sunset, but there were no other reports of the airplane, Bennett said. The area was searched by aircraft and on foot until about 10:30 p.m. when a Utah County search-and-rescue officer found the wreckage about 1/4-mile off the lip of a plateau usually used by Wasatch Front hang-gliders.Salt Lake County Sheriff's Capt. Lee Smith said the transponder signal aided rescuers in narrowing down the crash area.Bennett said it appeared the plane was traveling northbound when it crashed in the foothills, skidding more than 100 yards. He said poor visibility could have played a part in the crash. It did not appear the plane caught fire after impact, Bennett said.Wyler's body was transported to the state medical examiner's office in Salt Lake City, where an autopsy was to be performed Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.Nearly 60 individuals from search-and-rescue units, snowmobiles and Humvee vehicles from Utah and Salt Lake counties, as well as the Civil Air Patrol, were called out for the search.Officials from the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were expected to arrive on the scene to begin their investigation Tuesday.Monday's fatality follows another small aircraft crash in Utah County in November. A 20-year-old Orem man was killed when he flew a rented one-engine aircraft into the foothills above southeast Provo Nov. 21. That crash was later ruled a suicide.

Born & raised in Payson, Utah Co., Utah. Worked in his father's grocery store
until the depression became so bad he had to go to work in the coal mine in
Tintic as a mucker. As soon as possible, returned to work as a meatcutter, his
lifetime occupation, eventually receiving life-time membership in the union,
the Associated Meatcutters and Butcher Workmen of America.
He had bass singing voice and was always in demand for weddings, funerals, etc.
His best-known and favorite songs were "The Holy City", "Danny Boy"
Employment during the depression was hard to find and this, combined with an
alcoholism problem, required the family to move from Payson, Cedar City, back
to Payson, Provo, Salt Lake City; then in 1944, to Fresno, California, where hespent the rest of his life.
He was known as being honest and an exceptionally good meatcutter. His one
attempt in his own business (a partnership) was unsuccessful.

DESERET NEWS, Monday, April 29, 1996:
DEATH: MARK WAYLAND WIGHTMAN
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Grandpa Wightman completed his time on this earth quietly and peacefully at his home on April 27, 1996.He was born on March 5, 1914, in Silver City, Utah, the son of Wayland Roger and Abby Wood Wightman. He married Rebecca Beth White on September 19, 1932; later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many responsible positions, including ward and stake clerk positions, priesthood quorum leadership, branch president in France, counselor in a bishopric, bishop in the Halawa Ward, Hawaii, and a dependable home teacher. He loved music and was blessed with a beautiful bass voice that he shared by singing in ward choirs wherever he lived. His vocation was an auditor with the U.S. Army Audit Agency, where he worked for 31 years. His assignments required a great deal of traveling, and through the years he worked on most of the continents in the world. While stationed in Orleans, France, his audits took him to almost every European country. He also worked on many islands of the sea, Alaska, and all over the continental United States. Some of his greatest attributes were his sincere concern for everyone in his life, his great compassion for anyone in need, and his total generosity and willingness to help, not only with his own family, but everyone he knew.In all of his accomplishments, his sincere desire to help everyone, and all the other good things that were done, only one thing surpassed them all: that was the love he had for his family. His brothers and sisters, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his testimony of the gospel and the Savior were the most important possessions of his life.He is survived by three daughters and two sons, Verree' (Duane) McCleve, Salt Lake City; Jan Mower, Ivins, Utah; DeAnn (John) Powell, Taylorsville; David (Darlene) Wightman, Murray; Paul (Barbara) Wightman, Sandy; two brothers and one sister, Wallace (Alaine) Wightman, Salt Lake City; Grant (Norma) Wightman, Provo; Doramae (Cleve) Bingham, Spanish Fork; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Beth; his parents; stepmother, Aunt Laura; two brothers, Roy and Gilbert; and one sister, Rea Huff.We pay tribute to two special people who have given sincere, tender, very loving care to our father and grandfather that was far and above that which would normally be given. We will ever be grateful to Edgar and Nellie Solano for being the type of saints that they are and for loving him as their very own.Funeral services will be held on May 1 at 12 noon at the Murray Little Cottonwood 12th Ward Chapel, 6180 So. Glenoaks (855 East), Murray. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. excerpt from a biography of his son Doctor Roy Wightman, p. 186:
"His father, W. C. Wightman, a native of New York, was born near Buffalo, in Erie county, in 1833, and is now living at Payson. He came to Utah in 1852 and made his way first to Salt Lake, after which he removed to Payson, where he engaged in blacksmithing for a time. He later turned his attention to farming and also became proprietor of Hotel Payson. He is now living retired, enjoying a rest which he has richly earned and well deserves. The mother of D. R. Wightman was Lucretia Jane Pepper, of Quincy, Illinois, prior to her marriage. She crossed the plains in an early day and became the wife of W. C. Wightman in Salt Lake. They had a family of sixteen children, ten of whom are living. The mother departed this life in 1906."
excerpt from a biography of his son William C. Wightman, Jr., p. 498:
"His father (William C. Wightman) is a native of the state of New York and came to Utah in 1854. The mother (Lucretia J. Pepper) was born in Quincy, Illinois, and she traveled westward with the same ox train in which Mr. Wightman made the journey to Utah. They were married in Salt Lake City in 1855 and there Mr. Wightman took up blacksmithing. During the summer of that year he removed to Payson, where he opened the first blacksmith shop. In 1863 he went with cattle for emigrants, thus assisting people of his faith in reaching Utah. In 1865 he was called to aid in settling the Muddy--a district that was soon afterward awarded to Nevada with the establishment of the boundary line between the two states. Owing to the sandy soil there was great difficulty in maintaining the irrigation ditches, so that Mr. Wightman and his companions who were colonizing that district were released and he returned to Payson, where he is still living at the advanced age of eighty-six years. The mother, however, died in 1906. Their children were William C., Martha Jane, Lucretia Ann, Mary, Lyman E., Harry P., Frank, Roy and Rolla. (Utah Since Statehood: Historical and Biographical. Charles Billings Wightman was ordained a Seventy in 1837 and served a mission at that time. The Dixons and Peppers were no direct relation to William Charles Wightman, because they were in-laws of his uncle Charles Billings Wightman (Charles and Elizabeth Humphrey Dixon were the parents of Charles Billings Wightman's wife, Mary Ann Dixon). Lucretia Jane Pepper would later become William Charles Wightman's wife.
