General Notes: Husband - Solomon Keyes
Genealogy of Robert Keyes of Watertown, Massachusetts 1633,
Solomon Keyes of Newbury And Chelmsford, Massachusetts,
1653, and Their Descendants: Also, others of the name,
by Asa Keyes. Brattleboro: George E. Selleck, Printer, 1880.
A tradition prevailed among the earlier descendants of Solomon, and is
now current among the older members of the "Keyes" family, that two
brothers from England, settled in this country and were the ancestors
of all of the name in America. Various names have been ascribed to
the brothers, and different ports have been mentioned as their place of
landing, but I find no record relating to either of them, earlier than that
of the marriage of "Solomon Keies and Frances Grant at Newbury,
Mass., Oct. 2, 1653."
The birth of the five elder children is recorded at Newbury.
In 1664 and 1665, Solomon and Joseph Keyes took up land in
Chelmsford, Mass., and in that town is recorded the birth of the
other children of Solomon and Frances.
There appears to be no record of the marriage of Joseph, supposed to be
the the brother of Solomon, or of the birth of children. He might have
had children born in England, or before he came to this country.
Solomon was town clerk and tything man in Chelmsford, and seems to
have been a man of influence in those early days.
"The old Keyes homestead, par excellence, a roomy, two story white
house, now more than two hundred years old, stands in the town of
Westford, which was set off from Chelmsford, and incorporated in 1729,
and most of the families of the name in that vicinity, are now said to be
of Westford. The village according to an old writer, is handsomely
situated on a swell of fine land, commanding a beautiful prospect of
great extent, and contains an academy of ancient date and respectable standing."
In an old town book of Chelmsford, we find the followin
"Sar g nt Solomon Keys,
dyed, Mch 28, 1702."
His wife Frances, died, 1708.
The name is spelled Keyes in the Newbury records, with one exception,
where the second ?? is omitted, probably by mistake. At Chelmsford, the
records make it Keies, generally, during the life of Solomon, although
during the few years preceding, (as in the record of) his death, we find
it sometimes Keys.

Thurston& Co., Portland, Maine (1876), pg. 561-562:
ANDREW RICHARDSON, Esq., youngestson of William and Mary (Hobart)
Richardson; born in Townsend, Mass., Aug. 25, 1760; m. in 1781, Hannah
Grant, of Marsh Bay, Frankfort, Me.
He and his three older brothers, Israel, Abel and Josiah, all left
their pleasant home inTownsend, on the Lexington alarm, April, 1775, and
joined the patriot army at Cambridge. Andrew was but fifteen years old.
All four were in the battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775. As heretofore
noticed, Israel never returned. He was in the army of Washington on Long
Island, and died Aug. 29, 1776, either from wounds received in the battle
of the 27th, or from the effects of the severe rain-storm which
immediately followed.
After two years of service in the army, Andrew wend down into the
District of Maine, and joined his eldest brother William in the Hancock
Plantation. In that place, afterwards the town of Winslow, and the part
finally the town of Clinton, he became a leading citizen. He was the
first captain of militia in the town; was elected selectman year after
year; and represented the town in the General Court at Boston in the
years 1809 and 1810.
June 30, 1786. Andrew Richardson, of Hancock Plantation, yeoman,
bought of Silas Barron, of said Hancock, a certain lot of land on the
east side of Sebasticook River, and at the west end of the north line of
Lot. No. 4, above the town of Winslow. [Lincoln Deeds, xx.134.]
Clinton, however, is mostly on the west side of Sebasticook.
He died in Clinton, Me., Jan. 10, 1818, aged 58. Hannah, his wife,
died in Jan. 1811.

first, in Clinton Feb. 20, 1831, Louisa Wood, born Sept. 24, 1800, dau.
of Capt. Nahum Wood, who came from Gardner, Mass., to Maine, and settled
in Winslow, at the confluence of the Sebasticook and Kennebec Rivers.
She died Jan. 7, 1862. Second, Feb. 28, 1864, MR. SARAH NYE (ELLIS)
TOBEY, a widow, born in Sandwich, Mass. She died in Waterville, Me., May
7 1870. Third, April 17, 1873, MRS MARY ANN (BARTLETT) FERNALD, of
Portland. At the last marriage, the bridegroom was eighty-one years of
age and the bride seventy-one.
The second wife, Sarah Nye Ellis, was married to Mr. Stephen Tobey in
the eighteenth year of her age. She was then a professor of religion.
She and her husband, Mr. Tobey joined the Methodist Church, and was for
forty years an efficient class-leader in that body. He was a wealthy
farmer. They raised a family of eight children.
Hobart Richardson and his younger brother Andrew were out as soldiers
in the war of 1812, but saw no actual fighting. He was a selectman of
Clinton, his native town, nine or ten years. In1830, at the age of
forty-two he entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Of
that church he has been a prominent divine. During several years
previous to his death he resided in Portland. Although verging towards
eighty, his health was good and his mind clear. At length that event
tookplace which must come to all, and he died in Portland, Feb. 6, 1875,
aged 82.

General Notes:
King's American Regiment and previously the 78th Highlanders.
The King's American Regiment is one of the best known and best documented of the Loyalist Regiments. The Regiment was raised primarily in Westchester and Long Island, New York beginning in December of 1776. It consisted of ten companies, including one each of grenadiers and light infantry, with a battlaion company being converted to cavalry in 1781. It's initial field officers were Colonel Edmund Fanning, Lt. Col. George Campbell and Major James Grant. The regiment served on Long Island and Kingsbridge, New York from 1777 to the middle of 1778, when it was transferred to Rhode Island. During that time it had served on Sir Henry Clinton's foraging expedition to Bergen County, NJ in September, 1777 and his Hudson Highlands expedition a month later. While at Rhode Island it had a prominant role in the fighting during the Battle of Quaker Hill, 29 August 1778. In July of 1779 it embarked to take part in Major General Tryon's raids on New Haven and Fairfield, returning to New York afterwards. It garrisoned Lloyds Neck until ordered to embark for Virginia under General Leslie in October of 1780. Desperately needing reinforcements in South Carolina, the expedition left Virginia for that place, arriving by sea the December following.
In early 1781 the regiment was in garrison at George Town, S.C. and fought heavily at Lord Rawdon's victory at Hobkirk's Hill, S.C. on 25 April 1781. In May/June following the regiment (light infantry company excepted) embarked from Charlestown to reinforce Savannah, Georgia, where their troop of light dragoons was formed. Here detachments from the regiment fought in several skirmishes through 1782, when the city and province was evacuated in July of that year. Part of the regiment was re-landed at Charlestown while the remainder returned to New York. When Charlestown was evacuated in December of 1782, the regiment was re-united in New York.
There were three detachments made from the regiment during the war. The first was in August of 1777 when drafts were made from the Provincial Regiments serving at Kingsbridge to form a corps of marksmen armed with rifles commanded by Captain Andreas Emmerick. Some of these men eventually returned to the regiment. The second was in December of 1779 when drafts were made from the Provincial Corps at New York (who were not taking part in the Charlestown Campaign) to form a corps of marksmen and rangers under Captain Patrick Ferguson for that expedition. This corps served until wiped out at King's Mountain. A few officers and men eventually returned to the regiment. The last was when their Light Infantry Company was joined to that of five other Provincial battalions to form the Provincial Light Infantry.
This corps likewise served on the Leslie expedition to Virginia and South Carolina, often involved in skirmishes with such rebel leaders as Thomas Sumter. After the Battle of Eutaw Springs on 8 September 1781, the Light Company rejoined the regiment in Savannah about two months later.
The regiment was made a part of the American Establishment in early 1781, designated the 4th American Regiment. This confirmed permanent rank in America and half pay to the officers upon the regiment being disbanded. Likewise their own distinctive buttons and clothing ordered directly from England specifically for the corps. The regiment received it's highest honor when it was made a regular regiment (The King's American Regiment of Foot) on 25 December 1782. This made the officer's rank permanent anywhere. The regiment was disbanded in New Brunswick (still then a part of NS) on 10 October 1783.
There are many sources of information for the regiment, including two known orderly books, an account book, muster rolls, and petitions of officers and soldiers, as well as courts martial. Also of great interest is the Diary of Henry Nase at the New Brunswick Museum. Nase was a sergeant, sergeant major, clerk and finally ensign in the regiment. The muster rolls can be found in three locations, the RG 8 "C" Series at the NAC, The Loyalist muster rolls at the New Brunswick Museum (1777-1778) and at the Public Record Office in War Office 12 for the two 1783 musters while they were a British Regiment. The orderly books can be found at the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan and the New Brunswick Museum. The courts martial are at the PRO, War Office Class 71. The petitions and memorials dot the Audit Office Papers, War Office Class 42 and the various land grant petitions of the Maritimes and Upper Canada. 74
