1/8/1914 P.79 Drummer on Foot - "Donald McDonell, the progenitor of this family in Nova Scotia, immigrated from Glengarry, Scotland, about the year 1790. His wife's name was Mary Scott. They settled at Nine Mile River, Hants Co., where they died and where some of their descendants now live. This gentleman must have had in him the stuff of which men are made. He lived to the age of one hundred and five years and ten months. When over one hundred and four years he chopped the firewood for his stove, and at harvast time, following the reapers in the grain field, he bound fifteen sheaves of barley, a process to strain the sine of one less than half his age."

Lived to 105 Years, 10 Months. When he was 104 he still chopped the firewood for his stove and at harvest time, following the reapers in the grain field, he bound 15 sheves of barley. He died at Nine Mile River on 26 March 1858.
Donald, along with Mary, her father Archibald and her brothers and sister emigrated to Canada. They departed from Druimindarroch (July 12, 1790) aboard the ship 'The Jane' and landed at Prince Edward Island (then called St John Island) sometime in September of the same year. The ship's manifest listed all as residents of Auberchaladair. They then settled in Nine Mile River, Hants County, Nova Scotia. It is suspected Donald was granted land in Douglas Township for loyal military service to the British Crown**.Donald died March 26, 1858,Belnan, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia. Married Angus MacDonnell and lived at St. Andrew's Margare t, b. 1801 married Donald MacDonald (McBride) lived at Marydale John Angus, b. 1804. Married Suzanne Horne. 2nd marriage to Margaret Urquhart. Archibald, b. 1807. He died 24 March 1885. Ann (Nancy), b. 1810 and was marri ed in England, Duncan, b. 1811 and married Elizabeth ??? . He died 15 Oc t. 1883. Donald MacDonnell (Garaidhnich), son of Donald MacDonell and Mary Scott was born on the Atlantic Ocean in 1790 while on the voyage to N. S. He married Mary MacDonald from Scotland b. 1797 and daughter of Angus MacDonald. They lived at St. Andrew's and their children are:

1/8/1914 P.79 Drummer on Foot - "Donald McDonell, the progenitor of this family in Nova Scotia, immigrated from Glengarry, Scotland, about the year 1790. His wife's name was Mary Scott. They settled at Nine Mile River, Hants Co., where they died and where some of their descendants now live. This gentleman must have had in him the stuff of which men are made. He lived to the age of one hundred and five years and ten months. When over one hundred and four years he chopped the firewood for his stove, and at harvast time, following the reapers in the grain field, he bound fifteen sheaves of barley, a process to strain the sine of one less than half his age."

Lived to 105 Years, 10 Months. When he was 104 he still chopped the firewood for his stove and at harvest time, following the reapers in the grain field, he bound 15 sheves of barley. He died at Nine Mile River on 26 March 1858.
Donald, along with Mary, her father Archibald and her brothers and sister emigrated to Canada. They departed from Druimindarroch (July 12, 1790) aboard the ship 'The Jane' and landed at Prince Edward Island (then called St John Island) sometime in September of the same year. The ship's manifest listed all as residents of Auberchaladair. They then settled in Nine Mile River, Hants County, Nova Scotia. It is suspected Donald was granted land in Douglas Township for loyal military service to the British Crown**.Donald died March 26, 1858,Belnan, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia. Margi: Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. I don't remember if I sent you the names of Alex
(Brook) and Mary's other children's correct birth dates from the baptismal register. I went to the Glebe House in St. Andrew's and looked them up. Here they are:

I haven't been able to find out the name of Donald's first wife. It does state in the 1891census that he was widowed and living with his father and sister. I did find out that Janet (Jessie) was born about 1863, the daughter of Samuel MacDonald (Miller) and she died on 20 Decemeber 1925. I don't have my information on computer since I don't have one at home and only use the one at work to type my information on paper. Mary Chisholm, Alex "Brook's wife, was born about 1820, the daughter of Donald MacDonnell and Mary MacDonald of St. Andrew's. She died at St. Andrew's on 20 January
1873 from the Fever. She was 53 years old. My family always told me that we were related to MacDonnell's but they told me my grandfather's mother was a MacDonnell. This wasn't correct. It was his grandmother, Mary (MacDonnell) Chisholm, wife of Alex "Brook". This is why I hadn't
done much research on the family. I was getting mixed up by what my relatives were telling me and giving me wrong info. Well, I think we have straightened that part up. Bye for now.
