MILLINOCKET – Maxine Walls Clark, 83, wife of the late Alvin "Pete" Clark, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Katahdin Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Millinocket, the daughter of Howard and Angeline (Blanchard) Walls. She was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 1943. While raising three children, she was active in Boy Scouts as a den leader coach, Pack 57. She was also a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, and was active in the Millinocket Town Museum, where she loved giving tours. She knew the history of each artifact and loved to tell their stories. She touched many lives of children who were attending church and Sunday school. Maxine was missionary president for many years. Her monthly talks of the missionaries in other countries were always touched by a bit of humor. She received the outstanding Missionary Award for distinguished service. Her home was always open for missionaries and pastors that were visiting her church. She also was active in the Little League, helping to coach and being supportive in all activities. Going to church and serving the Lord were top priorities in her life. Her later years were spent at Stearns Assisted Living Center and Katahdin Nursing Home, where she received very good care. Maxine is survived by three children, James Clark and his wife, Lizza, of Millinocket, Howard Hughes of Millinocket, and Barbara Worthley and her husband, Richard, of Readfield; five grandchildren, Courtney Clark, Robert Tweedie, Holly Strout, Jeremy and Jason Greatorx; two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Jacob Lohan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by seven siblings, Marie Howard, Charlotte Brown, Dorothy Murray, Pauline Segee, Pat Walls, Donald Walls and Phillip Walls. Maxine is the last of her generation. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at First Pentecostal Church of Millinocket, Aroostook Avenue, Millinocket, with the Rev. David Laliberte, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Maxine may be sent to American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101. About the time of the birth of Thomas Harvey's first child King James'declaration that he wo uld make all men conform to the establishedChurch, or drive them out of England, was havin g its due effect. Some ofhis subjects--known as Dissenters and Puritans--were not long in co mingto the conclusion that each body of Christians had a right to form areligious society o f its own wholly independent of the State. To thosewho thus thought the names Independents a nd Separatists were applied;and as early as 1608 a body of these Independents, under their s piritualleader John Robinson, resolved to leave England for Holland, where allmen were at t hat time free to establish societies for the worship of Godin their own manner. With much di fficulty and danger they managed toescape to Holland, and after remaining there upwards of t welve years apart of them succeeded in obtaining from King James the privilege ofemigratin g to America. A London trading company, which was sending outan expedition for fish and furs , agreed to furnish the Pilgrims passageby the Mayflower, though on terms so hard that the e xiles said the"conditions were fitter for thieves and bond-slaves than honest men."

In 1791 the owner of the manor and ruined castle of Bridgwater was RobertHarvey, M. D., some time fellow of Sidney College, Cambridge, and adescendant of Henry Harvey aforementioned.
THOMAS HARVEY, a great-grandson of Turner Harvey (page 16), and a youngerbrother of Henry th e owner of Bridgwater manor, was born inSomersetshire about the year 1585--which was not man y years after thedeath of Turner, who had lived to a great age.

4) WILLIAM HARVEY,2 (Thomas1), was born in Somersetshire, England, about1614. Accompanied b y his brother Thomas he came to America in 1636, andsettled at Dorchester. In 1637 he was on e of the company of forty-six"first and ancient purchasers," so called, who, "feeling much s traitenedfor want of room," purchased from Massasoit, the chief sachem of theWampanoag trib e of Indians, whose seat was at Mount Hope, the Indiantitle to Cohannet, lying thirty-two mi les south of Boston, in the colonyof New Plymouth.
"In the Summer of 1638," says Winthrop, "there came over [from England]twenty ships and at l east 3000 persons, so as they were forced to lookout new plantations." Thereupon the proprie tors of Cohannet removed fromDorchester to their new plantation. As a number of these propri etors hadcome to America from the ancient town of Taunton, and its neighborhood,in Somerset shire, they gave to their new purchase on the 3 March, 1639,the name of Taunton--"in honor a nd love to our dear native country, * *and owning it a great mercy of God to bring us to thi s place, andsettling of us, on lands of our own bought with our money in peace, inthe mids t of the heathen, for a possession for ourselves and for ourposterity after us," as they aft erwards declared.
The first recorded marriage occurred in the new settlement 8 Nov., 1638,and in the followin g Spring the second marriage took place. It was thatof William Harvey, and is recorded upo n the court records of NewPlymouth thus: "At a Court of Assistants William Harvey and Joan e Huckerof Cohannet were maryed the 2 of Aprill 1639."
In the latter part of 1639, or early in 1640, William Harvey and his wiferemoved to Boston , where they remained until 1646--during which periodfour children were born to them. [See T he N.E. Hist. & Gen. Reg., H.:189, and VIII.: 38, 350.] The family then returned to Taunton.
General Notes: Child - Thomas II Harvey
Thomas came with his brother, William, to Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1636. Two years later he was settled in Cohannet.
Between 1639 and 1642 he and 13 others were admitted as "Proprietors of Taunton", upon payment of 12 Shillings each, having a right to future divisions of land.
Aged 34 years at his death.

Artist biography; Frank LaRue - portions of content provided by All-Movie Guide. 1998, AEC One Stop Group, Inc.
"Vaudeville and 'legit stage' veteran Frank H. LaRue came to Hollywood in 1931. Of his many bit parts, LaRue's most enjoyable turn was as the benign-looking bishop (actually a horse-playing movie actor) in the satirical Once in a Lifetime (1932). Active until 1949, he spent much of his screen time in westerns playing judges, bankers, ranchers and windy politicians. Fans of 'The Little Rascals' will remember Frank H. LaRue as the grouchy radio-program sponsor in the 1934 two-reeler Mike Fright. - Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide"
In Frank's effects there was a clipping for a W.P. LaRue, but the connection is not yet known. In Marion Co., OH, Rev. W.P. LaRue is listed on several marriage certificates. Another newspaper clipping was of Sen. George F. Edmunds from VT. It has been suggested that there is a connection with the Family of Frank's grandmother, Renew Edmunds. George's father was Ebenezer Edmunds, mother Briggs/Griggs.
In 1860, Ebenezer was living in Romeo, Macomb Co., MI.

"Stage Mother" Gives Great Actress New Role; 'Flying Devils' Second Drama
Sixteen stars in two first-run features is the Fox Grand-Lake's promise to film fans saturday when "Stage Mother" and Flying Devils" begin a week's showing at the popular (can't read)...lake picture palace.
. Swift and daring action such as causes customers to clutch orchestral arm chairs with perspiring palms is promised in "Flying Devils." a death-defying detour over uncharted airways.
Arline Judge is the girl for whom flying fools nurse broken hearts and risk broken necks in a series of breath-taking tail-spins, and whatnots, cracking up with a head-on collision of two pursuit planes in midair.
The cast includes such film favorites as Bruce Cabot, Eric Linden, Ralph Bellamy, Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edward, June Brewster and Frank LaRue.

POEM IN THE VICTORIA COUNTY RECORD ? Date
Editor's note: This poem was written by Helen Rideout for her motherandfather-in-law, Hilton and Alice Rideout, on the occasion of their 50thanniversary. The Lower Kintore couple was married on October 28, 1942and celebrated their golden anniversary on October 24, 1992 at theKnights of Columbus Hall in Andover. Since their marriage, the Rideout'shave lived in Lower Kintore where they raised 17 children, one of whomwas adopted. Alice is a Lower Kintore native while Hilton was originallyfrom Glassville. He kept his large family fed and clothed by farming andcutting wood. Their family has continually expanded and today they have25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
THE GOLDEN YEARS
Was it fifty years ago he gently held your hand
And exchanged vows of love and slipped on your wedding band.
At a time you could see the first autumn leaves
A picture of beauty on Canadian trees.
With much love to share in October's joy,
They had an outlook on life not a soul could destroy.
Just starting out life in the Canadian plain
Took longer than crossing a wide open range.
Where a man and his wife could build a good life,
By facing all conflict, struggle, and strife.
Their world had been blessed and would face many tests.
How the coming of children was life at its best.
Hilton was in charge of daughters and sons
But Alice gave orders of how it was done.
Time moved on quickly fading away,
While the Rideout family grew larger each day.
All were good workers, living close to the soil,
Sun up till sun down facing hard work and toil.
So much to be done that they worked everyone,
But they all felt better and that made it fun.
So our children grew up to be taught right from wrong
And that required a hand that was strong.
So we went back to our Bible and plain golden bands,
Where a good honest couple faced life hand in hand.
A man's home was his castle and his wife was his queen
And their children became a wealthy man's dreams.
So these fifty years have seemed to just fly by.
These many years we have loved each other
And the countless reasons why.
Happy 50th
With Love daughter-in-law
Helen
