Arnulf (died 14 July 937), called the Bad (German: der Schlimme) or the Evil (der Böse), was the duke of Bavaria from 907 until his death. He was a member of the Luitpolding dynasty.
Arnulf was the son of Margrave Luitpold of Bavaria and Cunigunda, daughter of Berthold I, Count Palatine of Swabia.
Besieged by frequent raids by the Hungarians and desperate to raise funds to finance a defence, Arnulf strengthened his power through confiscation of church lands and property, which earned him the nickname "the Bad". He re-established the duchy of Bavaria and eventually negotiated a truce with the Hungarians who thereafter largely passed though Bavaria on their raids into other German territories.
Arnulf vigorously resisted King Conrad I (and the second husband of Arnulf's mother Cunigunda) and later Conrad's successor, Henry the Fowler of Saxony. According to the Annales Iuvavenses, in 920, Baiuarii sponte se reddiderunt Arnolfo duci et regnare ei fecerunt in regno teutonicorum: the Bavarians, with some other East Franks, elected Arnulf king in opposition to Henry (actually in 919). Arnulf's "reign" was short-lived. Henry defeated him in two campaigns in 921, confirmed his sovereignty over Bavaria in return for Arnulf's renunciation of his royal claim.
Arnulf was married to Judith of Friuli, daughter of Count Eberhard of Friuli and Gisela of Verona. Arnulf's daughter Judith married Henry I of Bavaria, brother of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor.
Arnulf died in Regensburg in 937 and was buried in St. Emmeram.

"The ancient term Cornet denotes standard bearer of light horse (non
artillery) unit. In 1658, Cornet Robert STETSON was a member of the War
Board (Pequot Indian War) and the commanding officer of the Scituate
horsetroop. He met with the Indians both in warfare and as a
commissioner in the settlement of their differences with the white men.
The Cornet apportioned the common lands, laid out the highways, and was
one who represented the Colony in establishing the line between the
Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay settlements and one of the surveying
party that chopped their way through the virgin forest and swamplands to
mark this boundary line. The Angle Tree Stone near the Rhode Island
border still bears his name and marks the western end of the boundary.
In 1665 was chosen first selectman of Scituate and given authority by
the magistrates to execute and enforce his judgement and to try cases
involving not over forty shillings.
The Cornet and his family lived on the North River and he owned three
sawmills in the Scituate area."

General Notes: Husband - John Mayo
John "Rev." Mayo, Jr., Born: April 02, 1598 in Cattistock,Northamptonshire, England, Died: May 03, 1676 in Yarmouth, Barnstable,Massachusetts He was born while Elizabeth I was Queen, and a boy duringthe reign of James I, he went to Magdelen College, Oxford University, in1615, but did not
graduate. He wed and had all his children in Northamptonshire. He was aprotestant preacher in a
time when the harrassed clery were obliged to disguise themselves and touse assumed names.
The whole family came to the Colonies in 1635 aboard the "Truelove" fromLondon. On March 3, 1639/40, in New Plymouth, at a General Court, Wm.Bradford, Governor, Thomas Prence, Miles Standish.... assistants Mr. JohnMayo of Barnstable, Mass., and Job Cole admitted Freemen in this courtand Sworn, (the term Freemen connotes men of peaceable conversation, orthodox in the fundamentals of religion). He was a "pious and learnedminister." He was steady, reasonable and patient. He served thecongregation at Nausett (Eastham) as a "teaching elder" and moved therefrom Barnstable in 1646.
In 1654, they moved again, to Boston, so that he could become the firstpastor of the 2'nd Church of Boston, "transplanted from the smallest townon Cape Cod to the largest in the Bay, the 'Metropolis of America'. Washe not quite a person? He was, humanly speaking, one who has done theimpossible!"
He was an overseer at Harvard College, and he attended the graduation ofthe son of a fellow overseer, Increase Mather, who became Pastor afterJohn. He was paid 65 Lbs. as his salary. He resigned his pastorateApril 15, 1672/73, after 33 years in the pulpit. The North Churchpensioned him, not because he was needy, but for all the good he haddone. He was a sincere 17th century religionist. He was a resourcefulman whose mentality was far above average. He helped to found two townsand three churches. He "never lost a friend except by death." "I havealways supposed that Mayo was quite a
person. I dare say he has not had his justice from the historians, quietpeople who mind their own business seldom do."

The fact that John Mayo's widow was the same person as William Lumpkin'swidow is established by the following: 1. In the settlement of JohnMayo's estate [Md.9:119], is states: "Mistris Tamasin Mayo the Relict ofMr. John Mayo above mensioned made oath to the truth of this Inventorysoe farr as shee knowes; excepting onely the Goods and estate which sheehad before theire Intermarriage, which shee had not Claimed Right norpower to Dispose of but onely to use while they lived together as, asshee affeirmeth and to bring in what further shee may know the 2cond ofJune 1676". 2. Court Orders, V., 7 June 1787: [MD 9:121]: Adminstratorsappointed to "the estate of Mr. John Mayo Deceased...with
Reference unto his wifes prte and amonst his Children" 3. A church recordin the hand-writing of Rev. Increase Mather says: "In the beginning ofthe year 1670, Mr. Mayo, the pastor, grew very infirm. On the 15th ofApril he removed his person, and his goods also from Boston to residewith his daughter in Barnstable, ..." In ["The Reverend John Mayo,Genealogy" by E. Jean Mayo, p.2] 4. The rarity of the name Tamison. 5. Noknown records of a Tamison Lumpkin after William Lumpkin's death asidefrom those known under the name of Tamison Mayo. 6. The close connectionbetween the Lumpkins and Mayos as evidenced by the marriage of theirchildren Samuel and Thomasine. Number 1 and 2 above show that they hadnot been married long at the time of Rev. John Mayo's death. Record 3shows that John Mayo was wifeless in 1670, so that his widow was not hisoriginal wife.
