BURTON, Vera M.
MILO - Vera M. Burton, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Oct. 14, 1999, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born June 19,1906, in Upper Waterville, N.B., Canada, the eldest daughter of Woodford and Frances (Tompkins) Rockwell. After becoming a U.S. citizen, she married Harold H. Burton. They lived in Oakfield and then in Derby,raising eight children and their beloved eldest granddaughter, BonitaMarie Pelkey Cormier. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Milo. Vera was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her plants and crafts. She will be greatly missed by her children,..... and their spouses. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a twin daughter, Maxine Towne; three sisters, Erma Hillman, Ada Canning and Ida Crouse; a great-grandchild, Adam Bell; a great-great-grandchild, Samantha Cox. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Lary Funeral Home,Milo. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the United Baptist Church in Milo with Rev. . "John Rogers senr", of Marshfield, made his will 1 February, 1660. Bequests were as follows:

Joseph and his wife went to Mendon, Massachusetts, where he had a land all otment to be occupied before Sept 1663: July 1663, he had another lot rene wed in December of the same year. Several other families from Weymouth a nd Braintree removed from those towns to Mendon about the same time. On t he destruction of the settlement by Indians in 1676 (then known as a plant ation called Sgahapauge, first settled Oct. 16, 1660, by people from Brain tree, they having petitioned the General Court for allotment of a Township ), he returned to Weymouth, where he remained until after the war, and th en with other settlers, again made their home at Mendon; he was given a th irty-seven acre lot when the town was organized May 15, 1667, and on Ju ly 14 of the same year, was one of a Committee to divide the "Meadow Lands ." His name appears in the Proprietors' Records in all land divisions ti ll his death. On Jan 1, 1673, he was called Sergeant Joseph White. Nov 1 5, 1675, he was sergeant in command of the company of scouts, and was in c ommand of the Mendon garrison in king Philip's war. May 25, 1685, sign ed a petition to the General Court at Boston, asking for effectual la ws to stop the sale of liquors to the Indians. Jan 3, 1686, was sergea nt in the local Military Company, when he was elected selectman, which off ice he also held in Jan 1689, in which year he was called Captain. Feb 1 9, 1691, he with others bought a large tract of land from the Indians.

According to the 1820 census, Nathan lived in Sprigg Township, Adams County, Ohio, as a farmer. In 1840 only Agnes shows in the census living in Mason County, Kentucky. The 1850 census shows Nathan living in Hopkin, Texas with his daughter Eliza. Nathan died intestate in Hopkins, Texas, his estate settled by his son in law Gilbert Smith. Nathan was a partner, owned a schooner, the "James Lawrence", his birth and birthplace proved by a crews papers for the ship. 7 May 1823 he sailed from New Orleons, 5 Sept 1823 the ship was wrecked in a storm off Galveston, Texas, no loss of life. -from the National Archives papers. Nathan served in the war of 1812, he enlisted two times from 20 July 1813 from Adams County, Ohio. He applied for his pension from Mason County, Kentucky. From the Admas County Ohio records, 16 April 1803 mortgage to father for all property $400. 29 May 1806 Agnes deeded to her father in law personal property $270.Nathan's letters- 16 June 1846 at the mouth of the Red River in Texas. 5 June 1849 in Hopkins, Texas. 28 Sept 1851 in Hopkins, Texas. 22 June 1853 Nathan applied for a military pension in Mason County, Kentucky. 12 Nov 1853 in Springdale, Mason County, Kentucky. 7 Feb 1854 in Springdale, Mason County, Kentucky. 14 Aug 1854 letters say Nathan was in Kentucky now more than one year, four months later his estate was probated in Hopkins, Texas. 17 May 1821 he and his father witnessed a survey. 24 Apr 1824 they witnessed a resurvey.

EAST MILLINOCKET \endash Robert James Rogers passed away unexpectedly May 25, 2011, at his home. He was born Oct. 29, 1960, in Millinocket, son of Donis and Ida Rogers; and identical twin brother of Richard Hazen Rogers.
His is survived by his daughter, Mahala Rae Rogers of East Millinocket; his longtime love, Lynne Austin of East Millinocket; his brother and his wife, Rick and Jolene Rogers of Millinocket; and his sister and her husband, Cathy and Clyde Lufkin of East Millinocket. Rob had two nieces, Allison and Jessica Rogers; and one nephew and wife, Drew and Erin Suzanne Lufkin. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents.
Rob graduated from Schenck High School, East Millinocket, in 1979. One month later he became a papermaker in the East Millinocket paper mill and worked there until shortly before his death. He enjoyed his camp at Shin Pond; hiking in Baxter State Park; teasing people; his dogs, Chloe and Gizmo; and his cat, Meow Meow. He also enjoyed riding his four-wheeler "up to camp" and riding his motorcycle everywhere else. Rob loved spending time with his family and close friends, and he will be sorely missed by all.
