Christian Stehmen and his wife Hannah, and other members of his family,moved from Pennsylvania to Fairfield county, Ohio in 1803. The land wasforests and wilderness, which they immediately commenced clearing. Beforethis, they had spent some time in Virginia, Rockingham County, wheretheir children were born. After his wife's death (at the age of 84years) he went to live with his son Rev. Henry Stemen in elida, Ohio,where he died at the age of 97.

the practice of Doctor Cary, and continued to practice medicine here
until his health failed, abt. 1887, when his son, Charles H., jun., came
to live with him from Winthrop where he had carried on dentistry.
Since his father's death in June, 1891, Charles H., jun., has carried on
farming and dental work. He m. R. Louise dau. of A.K.P. Burgess, and they
have three children: A. Louise, Mary A. and Albion C.

one of original founders of the church at South Berwick in 1702
Daniel was a surveyor, an innkeeper and a large landed proprietor. He kept a public house with and woithout a license. He was in court several times because of disturbances at his establishment. He was at Kittery, Maine in 1652 when he signed the submission to Massachusetts. He received his lot by a town grant in 1654. Daniel was a constable of Kittery, 10 December 1662,a Sergeant in 1659, and a grand juryman in 1659 and 1678. On 14 July 1683 he gave his sons Thomas and James a tract of land in Berwick, where he was living. On 19 March 1696/1697 he deeded land to his sons William and Moses and on 21 Aug 1701 to his son Daniel. He was a selectman 13 April 1697 and signed a Berwick petition 4 Sept 1697. Daniel also signed a petition to the general court of Boston on 10 December 1662 for aid in discharging the duties of his office in the face of local opposition to that government. In 1657 he signed a petition to Oliver Cromwell. Daniel was one of the founders of the church in South Berwick in 1702. In December of 1711 he deeded his homestead to his son Thomas for support.
