General Notes: Husband - Alonzo Joseph Arthur Drouin
BIO:Alonzo left the village early. He became at first a lineman for the
Quebec Power Corp. He then moved to Quebec City and learned the
trade of Barber. He was self-employed on Victoria St in Quebec City
until 1939/40. He then started to drive his own cab and did this
until his dead. However, in the mid-Forty, he formed a taxi company
(55191) and was its vice-president for a number of years. He then
resigned in early Fifty and formed another company called Lucerne
Taxi which operated from the Bus Depot. He was President of this
company until he died in 1967. He continued to drive a cab a few
days a week (he loved it). He loved race cars and was one of the
first one from the Quebec City area to go to Indianpolis every year
for several years in a row. He also sponsored stock car racing in the
area and as far away as Sorel. He had a car and driver do the racing
for him. He raced motor boats, motocycle and planes; anything that
was powerful and fast. He died at his cottage in St Catherine
outside Quebec City on Sunday 13 Aug 67. He is burried at the cemetery of
Beaumont, in Quebec City.

General Notes: Husband - Alphonse Drouin
Alphonse was a teacher at St Famille (from the St Famille registry). In 1885, he moved to Ottawa having obtained employment with the Secretary of State department, as writer and editor to the officials acts. The family settled in a two story brick home on Empress Avenue, in what was then known as the "Village of St Jean-Baptiste. (now situated by north of Somerset, between Preston and Bronson. Info taken from Rogert Drouin "La Drouenerie" page 190.

General Notes: Child - Alphonse Marie Adolphe Drouin
Adolphe was four when the family moved to Ottawa. They moved on Empress Ave when he was eight. It was said the family spent their summer holidays at the Ile of Orleans, more than likely at Alphonse's father place. At 13, Adolphe is placed at the "Petit Seminaire in Quebec for his classical schooling. His father having been a teacher, had continued to give him extra tutering at home. In 1902 he started medicine at University Laval in Quebec, and was received as a Doctor in 1908. He started his practice at St Marie de Beauce. In 1909 he when to France for two years, where he was resident doctor in various Paris and Lyons hospitals, specialiazing in Eyes, ears, troat. Back in Quebec in 1911, he opened up his own office. In 1915, he joined the Canadian army as Medical attache to the Imperial Army with the 23rd division. In 1917, he went to Egypte. In Dec 1917 the ship Aragon in which he was travelling was sunk in the Med. Some 700 people died in that sinking. He became part of Gen Allenby in the capture of Jerusalem, in which he eventually served as doctor in charge of the infirmary. Following the was Doctor Drouin came back to Ottawa to work and live. His office was at 48 Rideau St. He also practice at the Ottawa General. He never married and died at the age of 74 on 28 May 1956 in Ottawa

Amanda and Joe Veilleux, had a farm just outside the village of St Gilles. They had many children that lived in the area. In old age, they moved into the village. They used to walk to church together right into their 80s, like two love bird. Joe was a bit of a character. A very nice person, who once in a while (prabably every two months), used to take to the bottle (at home only), and stay in bed drinking for 3 or 4 days. He would then go back to work on the farm, as if nothing had happened.
There is no records at the presbytere of St Gilles that Amanda was born there. More than likely she was born in St Patrice/St Narcisse or St Sylvestre...to be checked.
