Jean-Bte married his daughter Rosalie in 1844 and lived in St Gilles. His wife Reine Martel, had died at that time. He also assisted at his son wedding, Venant. Jean-Bte had also been a "Marguiller" at St Gilles.
Jean-Bte was very much involved in the foundation of the first parish church in St Gilles. His name appears on petitions from 1823, 1927, 1831, 1832. He would have around 45 when he signed the first petition in 1827. The first prysbetery was build in 1842. He was elected to the first church council (syndics) in 1825. The lot where the church and prysbetery now stand was donated by Louis-Flavien Dufresne.
He died at the age 76.
General Notes: Child - Venant Drouin
BIO:Venant is burried at the cemetery in the parish of St Gilles Co
Venant, his son Narcisse and Narcisse's son Arthur with their wifes are burried in the same plot. To the right of the cemetery as you enter.
All of the information for the children of Vevant have been confirmed with the Quebec Records office in Hull, as well as through the 150 anniversary book on the parish of St Gilles called "St Gilles se raconte 1828-1978", held at the Bibliotheque Nationale du Quebec.
Venant original farm (might have been his father before, was on what was called "Craig Road" , now the road that goes to St Patrice., it was indicated as 36 feet from the river. We used to cross the river by horse and buggy to visit some relatives across the river. (it saved about three miles)

It appears that Joseph-Pierre and his brother Jean-Baptiste were not the only two to go west to Detroit, as Jean-Louis more than likely made it there too, to eventually make it to St Louis. The only child that I have for Jean-Louis and Louis Latour is Joseph Drouin who married Angelique Richard. The others were more than likely born outside Quebec. Jean Louis apparently moved to St Louis between 1775- 1778. Two of his son apparently made it to Louisiana with the usual Louisiana surname of DeRouen (from Roger Drouin, p72 vol1). Jean Louis sold his farm to his brother Jean-Baptiste on 28 Feb 1762. (Actes Notarier page 4.) Probably getting ready to go west.

JOSEPH DROUIN IS VICTIM OF ATTACK OF PNEUMONIA
Well Known Young Man Died at His Home at 2:15 Thursday Morning
After an illness of just one week Joseph Drouin, aged 33, and well known on the west side died at his home, Henry and White avenues of pleuro-pneumonia. For the past three days the deceased hovered between life and death and while his physician recognized the seriousness of his condition, his former robust strength and young manhood were counted upon to aid in his recovery.
Deceased is survived by Mrs. Drouin and two children, Earl and Overna, and two brothers, Frederick of Pinconning and Frank of this city, the latter a former partner of the deceased in business.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning from Calvary church in Salzburg. Internment will be in St. Patrick's.

OK I'll start my story of Jessie (Dumas) Drouin, Winesummer, Nellet, Shaver.
I don't have any dates with me but. She and my grandfather had three children. Verna,1900, Earl, 1903 and Glen 1907.Glen was born after my grandfather died of pneumonia. They lived on Henry St. in Bay City and at that time there was open land to Wenona street. They were on the corner of Henry and White and the side street led down to the Saginaw River. They had a row boat and used to go out in the river and catch fish for supper. Her brother Wally lived on White St. just around the corner. He was a carpenter and was married but had no children.
Joseph ran a saloon on Linn St with his brother Frank. It was called Joe & Franks or(Frank & Joes) I have a picture of them standing in front of it with the sign but I don't remember off hand which way the name went.
When my Grandfather died my grandmother was left with 3 small children. I don't know how soon she married Winesummer but my father was still a small boy. He was a policeman and his family was from Indiana. I don't know how long they were married but it was while the children were growing up.
After he died she married Charlie Nellet who had a horse farm on State Park DR. He traveled with his horses to Florida and my Grandmother went too. I was born then because I have pictures of me and my Grandmother in the yard. I don't remember him but I remember going to their house. They had grape vines on the side and my Grandmother used to put her gum on the door jam of the pantry and see how big it would get.
I Don't remember him dying but I remember going to her next wedding to Shaver. They had a nice house on Mountain St.. He ran a parking lot on Saginaw St. and they had a little trailer they sat in during the day when the lot was in use.Grandma Jessie used to have her hair done and it was really white and she had this blue stuff put on it. She was quite the character, She liked to smoke cigarettes and drink gin and never wore a bra.

Shaver-Mrs. Jessie Shaver, 75, lifelong Bay Cityan, died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Steggall, 706 Fifth Avenue, where she made her home. She was born here April 26, 1880, and was a member of St Boniface Church and the League of Catholic Women. Surviving are: her daughter; two sons, Earl F. and Glenn J. Drouin, both of Bay City; a brother, Edward Dumas, of Bay City; a sister, Mrs. Earl Wood, of Bay City; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock at Hyatt Funeral Home and at 9 at St Boniface church. The Rev. Fr. John A. Mulvey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.

Drouin, Earl F.
Earl F. Drouin, age 83 years, died at 11:40 AM Tuesday, May 13, 1986 in Bay Medical Car Facility following a brief illness. He was born on February 21, 1903 in Bay City where he has resided all his life. For over 50 years, Earl was associated with local (area) theatres as a projectionist, and also involved in other activities with those theatres. He was a member of St. James church and a former member of it's Usher's Club. He was a Third Degree member and past deputy grand knight of Knights of Columbus, Bay City Council #414; a member of the League of Catholic Women and Men; and the A.A.R.P. . Earl was married to the former Florence M. Seifferly, who preceeded him in death on July 27, 1984. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Ronald Hegenauer Sr., of Bay City; his son & daughter-in-law Donald & JoAnn Drouin, also of Bay City: 9 grandchildren: Cindy, James, Jerry, Ron Jr., Tom, Christopher, and Suzanne Hegenauer; and Melissa and Chad Drouin; 2 great grandchildren: Ronald Hegenauer III, and Ryan Hegenauer; and a sister, Verna Steggall of Bay City. He was also predeceased by his brother, Glen Drouin in 1986. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 A.M. in the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel, and at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church. Rev. Wolfgang W. Streichardt will officiate, and internment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Parish prayers will be Thursday at 8:30 P.M. in the Trahan Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Church. Friends may call Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. ; and Thursday from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.

Joseph is listed as having married Marie-Anne Guion. On p.136 of marriages I.O. it indicates that he is the widower of one Angelique Chausse. This confirm is marriage to "Guion" (Dion). According to Robert Provost the historian, most Guion became Dion. However, there is a discrepancies in that his children seem to have him listed as having married a Guimont. I believe she is one of the same as there is no "Guimont" listed in the marriages of I.O. register, just Guion.

Original ancestor was Jean Guyon. In accordance with info given by Robert Provost of La Presse, the reason why so few Guyon descendants exist is that most changed their name to "Dion". In one of the research book Marie-Anne is listed has Angelique Dion. She may have had several first name i.e. Marie-Anne, Angelique. I will used the name Marie-Anne Dion.
