Richard Tunzi was born April 6, 1923. Dad entered the Lord’s presence in the early hours of July 20, 2005.
Volumes could be written about Dad’s life and the things he experienced. He lived in or around Humboldt County all of his life, spending 63 years of it married to the love of his life, Josephine.
Dad worked most of his life in the timber industry, the railroad, and ended his long career in the construction industry. Dad possessed many skills and talents. We always loved hearing him play music on his guitar and harmonica. He built many things with his hands, from furniture to houses, to put the furniture in. As children, we all spent endless hours letting our imaginations be our guides as we became space explorers and villains in the life size space capsule and airplane he built.
Dad’s many experiences were the adventures from which great stories are written. But, it is without doubt that his greatest enjoyment in his life was his family, his wife, Josephine, with whom he shared many things. He loved being my dad, and the privilege is mine to be he son, but along with that he truly loved being Grandpa to Preston, Jason and Tamara.
Over 20 years ago his daughter, Tina came into his life. They shared much the same creative passion and imagination and worked together on many creations.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Tunzi; his father, Ugo Tunzi; his mother, Rita; and by his sister, Ida Grigsby.
He is survived by his son, Martin and his wife Tina; his grandchildren, Preston, Jason and Tamara; his sister, Alva Mozinni; and his niece and nephew and their families.
Dad, thank you for being the man, teacher and friend you are. Now you’re with mom, how great for you to be together again. I thank God daily for you both and all you have done for me and our family. Till we meet again. Thank you.
Visitation will be at Pierce Mortuary, 707 H Street in Eureka on Thursday, July 21, 2005, from 1:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be at Pierce Mortuary on Friday, July 22, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka with Pastor Tim Shires officiating.

EAST MILLINOCKET
Maurice "Sonny" Nisbett, 74, died at his home in East Millinocket on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 21, 1927. tp Horace E. and Hazel E. Nisbett of East Millinocket.
Maurice is the beloved husband of Kathleen (Mahany) Nisbett, whom he married on Aug. 21, 1948, in South Portland, Maurice graduated from Garrett Schenck High School in 1945 and went to work at the Great Nothern Paper Company and became part of the third generation of Nisbetts who dedicated their lives working for the paper industry in East Millinocket. Maurice was the grandson of David Oscar Nisbett who moved to East Millinocket in 1907 to build the paper mill and thereafter worked in the mill. Maurice's father and uncles also lived in East Millinocket and made their living by working in the paper mill. Maurice worked for Great Northern Paper Company as a machinist from 1945 to 1984 and became a maintenance foreman in the machine shop at GNP from 1984 until his retirement in 1986. Maurice was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church and served many years in the Knights of Columbus, including a term as Grand Knight. His golfing "claim to fame" comes in the form of two Holes-in-One at Hillcrest and at Hermon Meadows. He was a seroius outdoorsman. He spent time fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping throughout the woods of Maine. He especially enjoyed playing pitch with the "guys" at the SnoRovers Clubhouse. EAST MILLINOCKET – Kathleen Elizabeth (Mahany) Nisbett, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, surrounded by her loving family after a seven-day stay at Colonial Health Care, Lincoln. She suffered from pulmonary fibrosis for many years and experienced a very brief and rapid decline in health prior to her death. She lived independently at her home in East Millinocket since the early death of her husband in 2002. She was born Jan. 26, 1926, to James William Mahany and Birdena Inman Mahany of Easton, and was the great-granddaughter of Cain Mahany, who was a member of the 31st Maine Regiment of the Union Army in the Civil War. Kathleen was the beloved wife of Maurice Edgar Nisbett, whom she married Aug. 21, 1948, in South Portland. Kathleen graduated as valedictorian of Easton High School in 1943, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Farmington State Teachers College, June 14, 1947. She taught in the East Millinocket school system at the outset of her graduation from Farmington State Teachers College. She said that she knew she wanted to teach home economics from the time she was in eighth grade. After she married she took some time off to have her family and then she returned to teaching in 1962. When she retired in June 1986, she had taught for a total of 26 years at Schenck High School. She said that she had taught as many as three generations in one family and always believed that the teachers had a responsibility to set high standards and expectations for the students. She also believed that home economics was a class that should be taught to boys and girls alike, because the skills for homemaking and consumer economics are vital to today's dual wage earners. Before she retired from teaching, she started a very successful fabric and yarn business, Kay's Fabric and Yarn, in April 1982. She learned the fine art of quilting and taught many of her customers to quilt. She later sold the business in August 1988, but continued to enjoy quilting, sewing and knitting for the remainder of her life. She donated numerous quilts for fund raising at St. Peter's Catholic Church throughout the years. She also donated many lap quilts for patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center and Millinocket Hospital. Kay also had an extensive perennial garden in her yard and enjoyed extending the variety of flowers to this garden. She became an avid golfer along with her husband, Maurice, and traveled to many parts of the world in her earlier retirement years with friends and family. She also played a mean game of bridge. Kathleen is survived by her son, James W. Nisbett and his wife, Sherri, of East Millinocket; three daughters, Joanne Gabbianelli and her husband, Frank, of Dixmont, Peggy Daigle and her husband, Maurice, of East Millinocket and Old Town, and Debra Hochran and her husband, Dr. Robert Hochran, of Skillman, N.J.; five grandchildren, Staci Nisbett and her husband, Darren Schoff, of Scarborough, Keli Daigle Marston and her husband, Aaron, of St. Augustine, Fla., Erica Gabbianelli of Dixmont, Nick Gabbianelli of Old Town and Aaron Hochran and his wife, Allyson; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Dawn Marston, Kacie Marie Marston and Erin Hochran; and her sister, Margaret Kopack of South Portland. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice, in 2002; granddaughter, Angela Daigle, in 1999; sister, Frances Mahoney, in 2003; and brothers, Paul Mahany, in 1984, Merle Mahany, in 2002, and Philip Mahany, in 2004. Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, East Millinocket. A reception will be held at St. Peter's Parish Center immediately after the funeral. Spring interment will be at East Millinocket Cemetery.

B4) Mary (Polly) Mahar
Mary (Polly) Mahar (born Sept. 13, 1783 in Dennysville, Maine; died Sept. 30, 1829 in Lubec, Maine) (LG) married Hatevil Leighton(born Aug. 8, 1775 in Dennysville, Maine; died Jan. 26, 1844 in Lubec, Maine) (LG) in the year 1799 (LG) in probably Dennysville, Maine. Hatevil Leighton is the younger brother of John Patten Leighton who married Sally (Sarah) Mahar andboth were the children of Martha Denbow and Hatevil Leighton. Mary and Sally Mahar Leighton’s offspring would be double cousins. Mary and Hatevil Leighton had the following children:
C36) James Leighton- born June 16, 1800 in Lubec, Maine and died October 1884 in Somerville, Massachusetts. (LG
C37) Isaac Leighton- born January 17, 1802 in Lubec, Maine (LG); death unknown

C48) John M. Leighton- born about 1825 in Lubec, Maine; died Sept. 16, 1882 in Lubec, Maine (LG)
General Notes: Child - Sarah Jane Sally Mahar
Sally Mahar is believed to be the oldest child of Rebecca Reilly and Edmund Mahar. Sally married John Patten Leighton, born Dec. 25, 1772 in Cherryfield, Maine and died Oct. 17, 1839 in Pembroke, Maine (LG). Sally and John were married August 1, 1796 in Eastport, Maine (EVR)(LG). John was the son of Martha Denbow, born July 25, 1751 in Dover, New Hampshire (LG) and Hatavell (Hatevil) Leighton (Laighton) born Feb. 28, 1749/50 in Newington, New Hampshire and died 1819 inPembroke, Maine (LG). Martha and Hatevil were married in Newington, New Hampshire in 1772 (LG). Hatevil is the same Hatavell Laighton that, along with EdmundMahar, William Wilson, William Clark etc. settled Leighton’s Point in correlation with the initial lumbering operation. The Leighton’s migrated from New Hampshire, and over the years, has consistently married into the Mahar family and vice versa.
General Notes: Child - William Mahar
B6) William Mahar
William Mahar (born either 1785 or 1789 (C1850) (C1860);died between 1860-1870 (C1860)(C1870)) William was probably born in Dennysville/ Pembroke and died in probably Charlotte, Maine. The birth date of William isascertained from the Census of 1850 and 1860 when he gave his age. In 1850, hesaid he was 65, which would be a birthdate of 1785, and in 1860 he said he was70, which would be 1789-1790. One of these birth dates is obviously wrong. Thepoint is, which one? The death date is determined since William was not in theCensus of 1870 and his wife was a widow in 1870. William married Ann Bridges or Lydia Ann Bridges (b. about 1791 in Maine (C1850)(C1860); died between1770-1780 (C1870) (C1880) in Eastport on either Sept. 17, 1810 or Oct. 31, 1810(EVR). Both dates are given in the records. Ann Bridges was the daughter of Anna Livingstone Hitchings (b. 1773 in New Boston, New Hampshire; died 1865 in Meddybemps, Maine) (MHG)(DJG) and John Bridges (b. about 1766 in Meddybemps; died 1865 inCharlotte, Maine)(MHG).
Ann and William moved with the bridges to the area of Charlotte, Maine. The Bridges, or many of them, initially settled in Meddybemps, Maine then moved to Charlotte, Maine.
The children of Ann Bridges and William Mahar are:
C59) William R. Mahar- born Dec. 25, 1812 (JFG);died about April 6, 1895 (ES)
C60) Sarah Mahar- born about 1818;died Sept. 14, 1822 (ES)
C61) John Bridges Mahar- born Oct. 13, 1816 (JFG); died 1898 in Charlotte,Maine (ALBAG)
C62) Otis Livingston Bridges Mahar- born April 1821 in Charlotte, Maine (C1900); died between 1910-1920 in Meddybemps, Maine (C1910)(C1920)
C63) Robert Livingston Bridges Mahar- born about 1826 (C1850)(C1860); died between 1870-1880 (C1870)(C1880)
C64) Jotham Sewall Mahar- born about 1828 (C1850)(C1860); died between 1860-1870(C1860)(C1870); unreferenced before 1863(?)
C65) Mary Mahar-born about 1833 (C1850); death date unknown
General Notes: Child - Martha Mahar
Martha (Polly (?)) (Lovicy (?)) Mahar (b. about 1795 in Dennysville, Maine (C1850); Died between 1870-1880 in Calais, Maine (C1870)(C1880)) married Duncan McPhail (born about 1792 in New Brunswick (C1850); died Aug. 1, 1868 in Calais, Maine (ES)) around 1815. Since Rebecca and Edmund already had a Martha it is confusing they would have two girls named Martha. For whatever reason, Edmund Mahar’s Will, written in 1820, does say that. The name Polly (JFG) and Lovicy (DL) I have no evidence one-way or the other.
Duncan McPhail ancestry is somewhatconfusing. There seems to be a relationship between Duncan and another McPhailof his generation John McPhail (b. May 1787 in Maine, died Sept. 6, 1875 in Perry, Maine (ES)). In the Census of 1850 this John lived in Charlotte, Maine. Various circumstantial proofs indicate that Duncan and John are brothers and their father was an older John McPhail. I can find no McPhail’s in the area before the 1820 census. Duncan had to be there around 1815 since he married Martha. One point of confusion is that John said he was born in Maine, whereas, Duncan the younger brother, says New Brunswick.
The children of Martha and Duncan are:
C88) Unknown Male- born between 1815-1820 (C1830)
C89) Eleanor McPhail- born between 1815-1820 (C1830)(MMR)
C90) John McPhail- born about 1822 in Maine (C1850); died between 1880-1900 in Calais, Maine (C1880)(C1900)
C91) William McPhail- born about 1828 (C1850)
C92) Unknown Male- born between 1825-1830 (C1830)
C93) Unknown Male- born between 1830-1835 (C1840)
General Notes: Child - John Mahar
B3) John Mahar
Born: about 1779 in Pembroke (C1850)
Died: Feb. 7, 1855 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA)
The 3rd child of Edmund Mahar was John Mahar. John is the father of the
Mahar’s of Perry, Maine. Around 1800, John Mahar started a farm around Gleason’s Cove in Perry, Maine. This farm still survives and was thehome for Mahar’s until the death of Kenneth Stephen Mahar in the 1980’s. Figure 5 is that farm taken about 1892 with my Great Grandmother Jane Rae Mahar, my Grandmother Mary Ann Mahar and I believe Aunt Lilly (Drusilla) Mahar in front of the house:
Fig. 11
Even in 1892 the farmhouse was old. The farm is probably the way it looked when John Mahar was alive. In 1817, this structure hosted the first Perry, Maine town meeting. Later on, probably in the early 20th century an addition was built on the front of the house. Today the only Mahar thatremains in Perry, Maine is Mahar Road.
About 1803 John Mahar married Lucy Preble (born about 1785; died Oct. 10, 1845 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA)(PCR). John built the farm in Figure 5. It looks like he may have put an addition on the back of the house as his family became bigger. When I visited the farm in 1955, both areas were very old and you could tell that the front section, which is notin the picture, was of recent origin. Lucy Preble Mahar and John Mahar are buried in the Hibbard Cemetery, Hoffman Property, Rte 90. Lucy was listed on her tombstone as 52 yrs old, which would make her birth 1795. That date is impossible since her father died in 1787 and her oldest child was born in 1804. Her age is probably 62 yrs old, which would make her birth about 1785. The burial placeof many of their children is a mystery. The children of Lucy Preble and John Mahar are:
C26) John Preble Mahar- born Sept. 17, 1804 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA); died Nov. 9, 1859 in St. George, Charlotte, New Brunswick (DL) (JFG)
C27) Anna Mahar- born July 19, 1807; died July 20, 1807 (FTGPIA)
C28) Sarah Mahar- born Feb. 12, 1809 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA); died Aug. 31, 1855 (JFG) (JFG)(DL)
C29) Rebecca Mahar- born March 30, 1812 in Perry, Maine FTGPIA);died between 1850-1860 (C1850) (C1860)
C30) James Mahar- born Nov. 15, 1814 in Perry, Maine; died Nov. 15, 1847 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA)
C31) William Mahar- born July 2, 1817 in Perry, Maine; died April 15, 1889 in Trescott, Maine (FTGPIA) (ES)
C32) Joseph Mahar- born Dec. 2, 1819 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA); died March 6, 1890 in Perry, Maine (ES)
C33) Mary Polly Mahar- born Oct. 15, 1823in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA); between 1880-1900 (C1800) (C1900)
C34) Simon Frost Mahar- born June 26, 1825 (FTGPIA); between 1880-1900 (C1880)(C1900)
C35) Lucy Ann Mahar- born Nov. 15, 1828 in Perry, Maine (FTGPIA);died between 1900-1910 in Pembroke, Maine (C1900) (C1910)
General Notes: Child - James Mahar
James Mahar
Born: about 1777 in Pembroke
Died: June 5, 1856 in Pembroke, Maine
James Mahar married Sarah Dunbar (Denbow), born Sept. 19, 1779 in Hingham, Massachusetts, and died Sept. 11,1849 in probably Pembroke, Maine (JFG). Sarah Dunbar (Denbow) was one of 10 known children of Abi Gardner (b. May 6, 1840 in
Hingham, Mass; died Jan. 7, 1786 in Hingham, Mass.) and Jacob Dunbar (Denbow)
(b. Oct. 28, 1741 in Hingham, Mass.; died Sept. 30, 1840 in Pembroke, Maine. Jacob Dunbar was the son of Robert Dunbar (Denbow) of
Hingham, Mass. (born Jan. 16, 1705/1706). Abi and Jacob were married Dec. 3, 1761 in Hingham, Mass. (JFG) (GHPP)(WG). It is conceivable that Martha Denbow, wife of Hatavill Laighton, is a cousin to this family but unproven. Sarah Dunbar (Denbow) marriedJames Mahar in Eastport on July 6, 1800 . Sarah and James had the following children:
C14) Mary Mahar-born May 30, 1802 ; died April 25, 1838 in Pembroke
C15) Edmund Mahar-Born April 12, 1806 in Dennsville, Maine died between 1860-1870

C19) Jacob D. Mahar- born April 1, 1814 in Pembroke, Maine; died before 1856 (HH)(C1850)(C1860)
C20) Abi Mahar- born April 7, 1816; died between 1880-1900
C21) James Mahar- born May 11, 1818; Probably died in childhood
C22) Isaac Mahar- born May 1820; Probably died young
C23) James Henry Mahar- born Oct. 27, 1822; between 1880-1900
C24) Mahala Mahar- born Sept. 29, 1825;died about 1855(JFG) (HH)
C25) Sarah Mahar- Dec. 16, 1804; died after 1846(JFG)(HH)

Martha Mahar (born about 1783 in Dennysville, Maine (C1850); died Sept. 2,1872 in Red Beach, Maine (ES)) married Aaron Phelps (born between 1770-1780 (C1830); died Oct. 29, 1848 in Robbinston, Maine (JPG)) on Oct. 24, 1807 in Eastport, Maine. My knowledge of the Phelps family is lacking. It seems some, like Capt. William Phelps, lived in Lubec, and part lived in Robbiston. Heretofore, I have not been able to find any data on the family. The childrenof Martha and Aaron are:
C49) Aaron Phelps- born about 1807(C1850); death date unknown

General Notes: Child - Ambroise Riopel
In Dennison Ambroise is listed as Ambrose. Most of the names in it have been Englishised. Ambroise farmed a tract of land bordering on the Detroit river.
Ambroise sold off property from his farm to support himself in retirement. After his wife died in 1808, he deeded the farm to a son with the provision that he and an unmarried daughter be allowed to continue to live there.
