1164--BERIAH (Levi, Amos, John-4-3-2-1) Born March 5, 1806 at North
Yarmouth, Maine. His grandson related that Beriah ran away from home when
a small boy and eventually settled on a farm that he
purchased in Garland, Maine. He married Tryphenia Stewart of Garland and
six children were born in Garland. About 1860 the family removed to
Mapleton, Aroostook County, Maine. (See Clough Book, Pages 174-175).
Beriah died in Mapleton.

Albert's parents, Joshua Merrill Rideout and Elizabeth Clough werenatives of Cumberland Co., where he now resides. His great grandfather,William, first settled on the farm now owned and occupied by Albert andwas preceded by his grandfather, Ruben, and his father Joshua. Thefamily of Rideouts were among the first settlers of the town, and thistime honored homestead has been in the family for four successivegenerations. The original purchase was some 80 acres, but now containsover 150 acres. At the age of nine years he was with his parents fromPortland and settled on this farm where he has resided since. Mr.Rideout ranks among the representative agriculturalists of Cumberland,and is known as a citizen of reliability and integrity in all of hisrelations inlife. He is a member of the Republican party and a promoterof all enterprises tending to the good of his own town and its citizens.
His picture and one of his farms is to be found in the History ofCumberland, page 268.

Lucilla L Clough, 76, of the Sullivan County Nursing Home, died Saturday at the home. She was born in Warner, N.H., on Nov. 4, 1920, the daughter of Foster Locke Sr., and Susan (Flanders) Locke. She had resided in Claremont for more than 50 years. Mrs. Clough attended school in Warner. She was an active member of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. Mrs. Clough was the widow of Harold Clough, who died in 1981. They had been married for more than 30 years. Survivors include two sons, Richard Clough of Manassas, VA, and Thomas Clough of Newport; two brothers, Foster Locke Jr., and Henry Locke, both of Warner; two sisters, Mary Nelson of Clinton, Maine and Sue VanLearhoven of Derry, NH; also a special friend, David Boardman of Claremont; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Norman and Vincent Locke. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Newton Bartlett Funeral Home at 42 Main Street in Newport. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Warner. Ontario in 1845. He was in Stockholm, Sweden one winter where his ship
was ice bound. There he met Eleanor ______ whom he married and brought to

532--LEVI (Amos, John, .John, John, John) Born 1771 or 1773 at North
Yarmouth, Maine. He was baptized in the first Congregational church at
N.. Yarmouth on Sept. 14, 1791.
On Sept. 24, 1795 he married Abigail Small who was born in 1769 and
was the mother of their eight children. She died on Dec. 11, 1830.
On Sept. 25, 1831 Levi married Martha Ash of Portland, Maine.
Meanwhile Levi preferred another denomination to the Congregational
church, because in the N. Yarmouth church records at a meeting on Sept.
3, 1820 it reads: Voted .... committee to notify Levi Clough (et al) and
request them to attend a church meeting on Friday next at 2 P. M. to
consider some old cases of discipline."

p 155 Sept. 8, 1820--Dea. Jacob Mitchell reported that he had seen
Levi Clough, that he had obtained no satisfaction from him, that he did
not see what right the church had to call upon him and that he had for
several years since joined himself to the Methodists. Voted That the
case of said Levi Clough be postponed to the next meeting of the church
and that bro. Bethuel Wood be requested to inform him of said vote and
also request said Levi Clough to attend and show cause if any he has why
a vote of excommunication, should not then be passed upon him. Sept. 15,
1820. Voted Unanimously. that Levi Clough, having for many years
withdrawn from the Communion of this Chh and absented himself from the
worship of God with us and not onlyso, but has refused to attend
communions, or even public worship with other chh; in fellowship with
this chh..and in the vicinity of his residence, and thereby
aggravating his covenant engagements, but has (by his own confession)
joined himself to a Society with which this chh is not in communion, has
disregarded the many calls and reproofs of this chh still manifesting no
signs of repentance but justified himself in his wrong measures. .and
declares his determination to persevere in the violation of his covenant,
and therefore neglects to hear the chh.; that
the said Levi Clough; be excommunicated from thischh, or in the words of
an Apostle "that he be delivered unto Satan, for thedestruction of the
flesh. that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. '
Voted That the Standing Moderator of the Chh. be requested to
communicate a copy of this vote to Levi Clough. Intolerance between
religious groups was prevalent in bygone days. The only cause for
excommunication was that Levi preferred to attend the Methodist church
where he was then living. Levi was collector of taxes in 1840 for
the town of Cumberland, Maine. Probably he owned a brick yard by the
following account with Neal Farwell:

1159--SIMEON, JR. (Levi, Amos, John-4-3-2-1) Born Sept. 28, 1796 at
Yarmouth, Maine. About 1823 he married Mary Wyman, daughter of Capt.
Josiah and Nancy (Bradford) Wyman. Nancy was a descendant of Gov. William
Bradfordof Plymouth, Mass. When a boy Simeon lived at the home of his
grandfather, Amos, and Mary lived on the adjoining farm. Soon after their
first child was born, Simeon, Jr., was captain of a sailing ship bound
for Africa. The Clough Book in Chapter VI tells the story of this sea
captain, written by his great grandson, Capt. Neal Bradford Farwell, U.
S. N. Capt. Simeon Clough retired from the sea about 1849 and lived on
his farm in Cumberland, (N. Yarmouth) until his death on Feb. 10, 1870.
He is described as a tall, very erect, austereman, but deeply religious
and kindly to his family and all his associates, acitizen who was active
in town affairs, served as surveyor of highways and tax collector at two
different periods. Several years after his death, his descendants in
Cumberland and vicinity organized an annual meeting and the picnics were
continued over a period of half a century.

U. S. N.; Marian Bradford Rowe,Librarian of the Maine Historical Society

of Portland; and Myrtis M.Clough of Lawrence, Mass., a teacher and
genealogist who compiled, through thorough research in Probate Courts and
cemeteries, several lines of families of Cloughs in Maine and New
Hampshire Descendants of Nancy Bradford are eligible to the Mayflower
Society. A granddaughter of Prudence Ellen, Inez I. Morrill Scott of
North Hampton, N. H. has traced from Nancy Bradford, also from Bethia
Baker Clough--5 through her parents, the Small and also the Mitchell

six children were born in Garland. About 1860 the family removed to

1159--SIMEON, JR. (Levi, Amos, John-4-3-2-1) Born Sept. 28, 1796 at
Yarmouth, Maine. About 1823 he married Mary Wyman, daughter of Capt.
Josiah and Nancy (Bradford) Wyman. Nancy was a descendant of Gov. William
Bradfordof Plymouth, Mass. When a boy Simeon lived at the home of his
grandfather, Amos, and Mary lived on the adjoining farm. Soon after their
first child was born, Simeon, Jr., was captain of a sailing ship bound
for Africa. The Clough Book in Chapter VI tells the story of this sea
captain, written by his great grandson, Capt. Neal Bradford Farwell, U.
S. N. Capt. Simeon Clough retired from the sea about 1849 and lived on
his farm in Cumberland, (N. Yarmouth) until his death on Feb. 10, 1870.
He is described as a tall, very erect, austereman, but deeply religious
and kindly to his family and all his associates, acitizen who was active
in town affairs, served as surveyor of highways and tax collector at two
different periods. Several years after his death, his descendants in
Cumberland and vicinity organized an annual meeting and the picnics were
continued over a period of half a century.

of Portland; and Myrtis M.Clough of Lawrence, Mass., a teacher and
genealogist who compiled, through thorough research in Probate Courts and
cemeteries, several lines of families of Cloughs in Maine and New
Hampshire Descendants of Nancy Bradford are eligible to the Mayflower
Society. A granddaughter of Prudence Ellen, Inez I. Morrill Scott of
North Hampton, N. H. has traced from Nancy Bradford, also from Bethia
Baker Clough--5 through her parents, the Small and also the Mitchell
Families.
