William Ireland made his will on 4 Jul 1751 and it was probated 23 May 1755. In his will he bequeathed " to Brother Thomas Chamberlain Heirs and to Brother John Chamberlain Heirs and to Sister Adams and to Sister Chamberlain, a piece of land in Dorchester, Massachusetts, lying on the right hand as you go to the paper mills containing 19.5 acres to be equally divided between them. That is one quarter part to Thomas Chamberlain Heirs, one quarter part to John Chamberlain Heirs, one quarter to Rebecca Adams and one quarter to Sarah Chamberlain, to them forever. " This property came to William Ireland by the death of his wife Elizabeth ( Chamberlain ) Allen, it being the inheritance of her first husband George Allen. ( Suffolk Probate, 50 : 218 ) He was administrator of the estate of Thomas and Elizabeth Chamberlain of Newton, Massachusetts in 1734, at which time his wife Elizabeth was living and received her share of her parents' estate 7 January 1734/1735. ( Middlesex Probate Records, 2811). She evidently had no descendants living om 4 July 1751, as they would have received William Ireland's bequest.

NAME: _MARN M Chamberlain

General Notes: Child - Thomas Chamberlain

Thomas Chamberlain first appears in New England at Woburn, Massachusetts where he was made a Freeman by the General Court on 29 May 1644. He was a " Planter" and lived in Woburn from 1644 to 1655. His name is on the Woburn, Massachusetts tax list for 1655.

Thomas Chamberlain was a member of the first company that settled Chelmsford, Massachusetts and the Chamberlain homestead was not far from the Westford, Massachusetts line on a farm occupied by Charles Sheahan in 1883. It must be remembered that Westford was part of Chelmsford untill the 23 September 1729.

Thomas Chamberlain's death is not recorded. His will, if he made one, or the settlement of his estate is not recorded, but from a deed it is inferred that he died before 21 December 1700.

General Notes: Child - William Chamberlain

William Chamberlain was one of three sons of Francis Chamberlain, the others being Thomas and Edmund. They first arrived in the New World at Elizabethtown, Virginia in 1635. Because of the Indian massacres, the brothers fled by ship to New England. William was first in Woburn, Massachusetts in 1648. By 1652, he had sold his land in Woburn and had moved to Billerica, Massachusetts, a small settlement in the wilderness on a plot of land called the Dudly Farm. There he lived out his life in relative prosperity as Constable.
