JOSEPH AND HIS WIFE MARTHA CAME TO NORTH YARMOUTH WITH THEIR EMBODIED CHURCH ON 18 NOV 1730. HIS DEATH DATE WAS ORIGINALLY NOTED AS IN 1721, HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT ACCURATE AS HE CAME TO MAINE IN 1730.
"Joseph Chandler was of Duxbury wh ere his grandfather Edmund hadsettled when he came from Leyden in one of the tw o companies of theremainder of the Pilgrim band in 1629 or 1630. He was a man o f somefifty years of age when he came to North Yarmouth and, like JacobMitchell , a blacksmith. LII – PIONEERS OF SCHOODIC.
In 1779 or the following year, so far as can now be ascertained, there were nine persons settled on the present site of the town of St. Stephen-James and Jeremiah Frost, Benjamin Getchell, Samuel Milberry, Samuel, Jacob and Eben Libby, John Rolfe and Dr. McDonald.1 On the opposite side of the river, (soon afterwards known as Plantation No. 5, now the city of Calais,) three more had made their homes-William Swain, David Ferrol and Daniel Hill.

Mrs. Herbert Lett
Bessie, daughter of Mr & Mrs Dewitt VanTassel was born near Millbrook, Illinois, November 18, 1890. Her mother died in February 1893, when she was two years old. Her childhood was spent at Millbrook where she attended school and later was a pupil for some time in the high school at Yorkville, though not graduating there.
On November 30, 1911, she was united in marriage to Herbert Samuel Lett, going to the home he had prepared for her north of Sandwich. In march of this year (1914) they moved to their new home south of Sandwich, that she had taken so much pleasure in arranging. This was destined to last but a few weeks. She was striken with disease and was taken to the St. Charles hospital in Aurora where she passed away Thursday.
She leaves besides her devoted husband, her father, one brother, Glen, and two sisters, Marguerite and Catherine, living near Millbrook. During the early years of her life after the death of her mother she was cared for by Mrs. Jacob Budd, with all the tenderness and affection of a mother.
From a child she was always a favorite with her associates. She was a wide acquaintance and many friends. Few persons her age are more highly esteemed than she, or had brighter prospects for a useful and happy life.
Funeral services were conducted from the house of Mr. Samuel Lett at two o'clock Sunday afternoon by Dr. J. M. Lewis, interment at Oak Ridge cemetery.

MILLINOCKET – Kenneth R. Jewers, 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2012. He was born Feb. 1, 1937, in Millinocket.
Kenneth was a graduate of Stearns High School and proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, Ken worked for Great Northern Paper Co. for a while before moving to Hoquiam, Wash., for a job with Lamb Gray's Harbor where he met the love of his life, Myra. Ken, Myra and their four girls moved back across the country to raise their family in his hometown of Millinocket. Ken worked for the Foundry before returning to the mill where he worked as a machinist, eventually retiring from Great Northern Paper.
He grew a garden every year and enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards.
He was a longtime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Mary; and three of his brothers, Ronnie, Jackie and Billy. Ken is survived by his wife, Myra of Millinocket; four daughters, Michelle Trask of Corinth, Shannon Jewers of Millinocket, Mary Jewers of Westbrook, and Sandra Dow and husband, Damian, of Westbrook; five beautiful grandchildren whom he adored, Taylor and Garrett Trask, and Caden, Carter and Carson Dow; brother, Mike Jewers and wife, Cheryl, of Millinocket; and five sisters, Norma Waye and husband, Bill, of Millinocket, Carolyn Giurlanda and husband, David, of Glendale, Ariz., Mary Ellen Daigle of Brewer, Kaye Moore and husband, Michael, of Newport News, Va., and Cheryl Albert and husband, Willie, of Woodville. The family extends a special thank you to Uncle Bill Waye, and Cheryl and Roger Powers for all their support and help throughout, along with Drs. Jackson and Herbert, and Katahdin Area Support Group.
Ken requested no formal ceremony take place. Graveside services with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Millinocket Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest by his beloved "Brother Bill." Pastor Paul Fuller will officiate. After the service at the cemetery, friends are invited to join the family to share conversation and refreshments at Francis Elliott Post No. 4154, VFW, Millinocket.
