General Notes: Child - Ozzie Pound
MILLINOCKET - Ozzie Pound, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while at home, with his family at his side June 28, 2013. He began his adventurous life May 26, 1924, son of Thomas and Estella (Reynolds) Pound.
Ozzie graduated from Stearns High School and entered into World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to Millinocket, he began working at Great Northern Paper Company where he stayed for 47 and a half years. While at GNP, Ozzie served as union president for the National Pipefitters Association. He retired as superintendent of maintenance in 1986 and as training director in 1988. He also sat on the Millinocket town council for four years, was a member of the Elks Club, serving as exalted ruler for four years, a member of the local Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he also served as noble grand, was a member of Francis Elliott Post No. 4154, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millinocket, and was Cub Scout Troop Leader. As well, Ozzie was very active within Millinocket Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, and singing in the choir. Ozzie shared his life with his best friend, and wife of 54 years, Emily (Marston) Pound. Together they lived life to the fullest while hunting, fishing, and raising a family.
Besides his wife, Ozzie is survived by his sons, Steve, and wife, Elisa, of Greenville, Kim and wife, Stacia, of Payson, Ariz., Brent and wife, Pam, of Greenville, Woody McCafferty and special friend, Marietta Cole, of Millinocket, and Pete McCafferty of Millinocket; two sisters, Theresa Madore of Millinocket and Marie Henry of Rockport. Ozzie and Emily also enjoyed their 10 grandchildren, Roxanne, Brett, Devon, Sarah, Mark, Michael, Miranda, Erin, Jarrod and Ireland; as well as their 13 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Maddison, Ember, Zoey, Isabella, Maxwell, Aiden, Ryan, Brooke, Katelyn, Kameron, Kyleigh and Kendahl. Ozzie was predeceased by eight brothers, "Tully,", Atwood R., Darryle O., D. Lloyd., Otis E., Bryant O., J. Thomas Jr., and Richard D.; three sisters, Marsha L., Muriel E., and Elizabeth E.; as well as grandchild, Peter Wayne McCafferty Jr.

History of Penobscot County Maine -
Charles E. Powers, of Medway, is a son of Charles
Powers, of Kennebec county, Maine. Charles Power;,
had five children, four sons and one daughter, viz:
Charles E., Andrew, Nelson, William, and Laura A. (deceased).
Mr. Powers died September 25, 1874. Mrs.
Powers, whose maiden name was Frances Proctor, died
in 1870. Charles E. Powers, the eldest of this family,
was born August 6, 1826, and married Hannah Dean,
daughter of Gideon and Mary E. Dean, of Robmson,
Maine. He first settled in Marion, Maine, but moved to
Medway in 1847, where they have since lived, engaged
in farming and lumbering. He has had seven children,
viz: Wellington, now of Medway; Maria, wife of George
Reed, of Medway; Angeline, wife of William Taylor, of
Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Ella D. and Mark, deceased;
John A., and Charles William.

Mervin Lee Powers
AUBURN - Mervin Lee Powers, 92 of Auburn, formerly of Harpswell and Rumfor d, died on November 14, 2008 at Central Maine, Medical Center in Lewist on with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Newry on November 9, 1916, a son of Harry Lee and Mart ha Burgess Powers. He attended Newry schools and was married on May 4, 19 40 to Doris May Vashaw.
Mervin worked at the Rumford Paper Mill until his retirement as a Ste am Plant Inspector in 1981. Mr. and Mrs. Powers lived in Florida, USA sin ce the mid 1990's and moved back to Maine, USA in 2006. They had liv ed in Rumford for 40 years.
He was a wood carver, avid golfer, a quilter, enjoyed reading and w as constantly busy. He was former Master of the Swift River Grange and al so loved fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of Auburn; three sons, Harry Lee Powers a nd his wife, Roxalyn of Rumford, David F. "Tom" Powers and his wife, Kar en of Springfield, and Richard Dean Powers and his wife, Nancy of Keene, N H; his daughter, Donna Nunnally of Harpswell; eight grandchildren, 14 grea t-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Powers is predeceased by two brothers, Rexford Powers and Berna rd Powers; a grandson,
Harry Lee Powers, Jr.; and a stepbrother, Warren Powers.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside committal servi ce at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Powers Cemetery in Newry. In lieu of flower s, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Hea rt Association of Maine, USA, 51 US Route #1, Scarborough, ME 04072.

Charles E. Powers, of Medway, is a son of Charles
Powers, of Kennebec county, Maine. Charles Power;,
had five children, four sons and one daughter, viz:
Charles E., Andrew, Nelson, William, and Laura A. (deceased).
Mr. Powers died September 25, 1874. Mrs.
Powers, whose maiden name was Frances Proctor, died
in 1870. Charles E. Powers, the eldest of this family,
was born August 6, 1826, and married Hannah Dean,
daughter of Gideon and Mary E. Dean, of Robmson,
Maine. He first settled in Marion, Maine, but moved to
Medway in 1847, where they have since lived, engaged
in farming and lumbering. He has had seven children,
viz: Wellington, now of Medway; Maria, wife of George
Reed, of Medway; Angeline, wife of William Taylor, of
Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Ella D. and Mark, deceased;

Thomas Tyler served well in the Gettysburg, Pa. Battle, 1st Sargeant Cp.,F. 19 Me. Reg. Volunteers. He enlisted at Bowdoinham, Maine on August 5,1862, and was continually with his Co. until wounded 3 July 1863 inPichett's Charge. G.A.R. Post at Bowdoinham, Maine was named for him. Nobraver soldier went from Bowdoinham or died for her honor.

Dec. 19, 1785, SARAH POWERS, of Temple, b. April 1, 1769.
He was a farmer. He probably became a citizen of Temple at or not long
beforehis marriage, as we find him taxed in Temple in the years 1786,
1787, 1788.His two elder children were born there. In 1789, or early
1790, the family removed to Weston in the county of Windsor, Vermont.
They first occupied what is known as the Farrar house, a house yet
standing, the oldest in the village. After two or three more removes, he
went to live with his son Josiah onthe place now occupied by William
Manning, where he died some time in 1822, aged 58.
His widow Sarah lived with her son Leland, and during the latter part
of her life, with her son Artemas, in whose family she died, Feb. 28,
1855, aged 85 years 10 months and 27 days. She was laid by the side of
her husband in the old cemetery.

ASA RICHARDSON, b. in Weston, Vt., April 29, 1797; m., in Kingfield,
Maine, Feb. 26, 1824, Jane Staples, b. June 25, 1806, dau. of Noah and
Ruth (Bradford) Staples, of Flagstaf, in the north part of the State of
Maine.
He has been, from the beginning, a tiller of the soil. When a young
man he went from his native Weston into the northern part of Maine, about
as far north as the settlements had extended. There, in the town of
Kingfield, county of Franklin, he took to himself a wife, as above
stated. In 1850,he and his wife, and some of their children, removed to
Grafton, Lorain Co.,Ohio, where his eldest brother, Josiah, already was;
and not many years after, all the children joined them. It is worthy to
note, that the father, mother, and all the children were but recently all
living, and the children, twelve in number, all married.

History: "Led the fight against the Norman invaders. Restored to the crown of South Wales in 1078 and became the founder of the Third Royal Tribe. William the Conqueror met Rhys and accepted him as Prince of Deheubarth in 1081. Rhys was killed in battle by the Normans at Glyn Rhoddnai. Married Gwladus and had sons Griffith and Hywel and a daughter, Nest." Dictionary: Killed in battle with forces led by Bernard de Neufmarche in 1093. Roots: Prince of South Wales. Roots also gives name as Rhys ap Tudor Mawr.

Dictionary says he was brought up in Ireland after his father's death in 1093. But about 1113 he returned to Dyved, waged war, picked up some territory and laid claims to more. After a successful battle in 1136 he regained many of the lands of his ancient inheritance. He remarried and was slain in 1137 through the treachery of his new wife. Dictionary doesn't give details. One and one-half pages on this man, Page 310. ******** Gruffydd (Griffith) ap Rhys, King of Wales, 1135.
"Returned from exile in Ireland to fight the Normans in 1113. Married Gwenillian, daughter of Griffith ap Cynan, King of Gwynedd, in 1116. She was killed leading her husband's army in an attack on the Norman castle at Kidwell in 1136. The spot where she fell is named Maes Gwenillian in her honor. Griffith continued the rebellion against the Normans. Their sons were Meredith, Morgan, and Rhys." [Source 1]
