General Notes: Husband - Nehemiah Leavitt

The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriges, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 724,091 people via interlocking
marriages.

My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.

General Notes: Husband - Robert Keyes

Genealogy of Robert Keyes of Watertown, Massachusetts 1633,
Solomon Keyes of Newbury And Chelmsford, Massachusetts,
1653, and Their Descendants: Also, others of the name,
by Asa Keyes. Brattleboro: George E. Selleck, Printer, 1880.

The death of Robert, is recorded at Watertown, Newbury, Plymouth
and Sudbury, Mass. The Watertown record says: "Robert removed
to Sudbury, Mass., June 16, 1645, where he died 1647." Another
record, makes his death occur July 16, 1647. His history seems to
be, that he was in Watertown, in 1633 if not earlier, removed to Newbury between 1643 and 1645, and to Sudbury during the latter year, and died
in 1647. His widow was married to John Gage, in 1658, or according to
the Plymouth record, Nov. 1664.

General Notes: Child - Elias Keyes

We learn from "Ward's History of Shrewsbury," that Elias was in Marlboro, Mass., where he had a family, between 1696 and 1702. We find no record of his marriage there or elsewhere, or of the birth of children.

FRANCIS EATON: The English ancestry of Francis Eaton was only recently
discovered.
In 1929, Charles E. Banks in his English Ancestry and Homes of the
Pilgrim Fathers brought to light a Bristol apprenticeship document dated
4 December 1626, in which John Morgan son of Edward Morgan was
apprenticed to Francis Eaton, carpenter, and his wife Dorothy. In the
margin the document it says "The Mr at New England", and on the reverse
it states John Morgan would receive 25 acres of land in New England and
15 bushels of wheat.
In Mayflower Families for Five Generations: Francis Eaton (volume 1,
updated in volume 9) and Plymouth Colony: Its History and Its People,
this record was rejected as relating to Francis Eaton of the Mayflower
because by 1626 Francis' wife was Christiana Penn, not somebody named
Dorothy, and further the record says Eaton was "at New England" and "of
Bristol", instead of being listed as "of Plymouth".
The rejection of this record was challenged by myself on this web page in
September 1995, and was again challenged by David Greene, editor of The
American Genealogist in his review of Mayflower Families: Eaton (The
American Genealogist, April 1996, p. 125-6). The reasons for our
objection was that the Francis Eaton listed in the Bristol records is
called a carpenter, as was the Francis Eaton of the Mayflower. And
further, there are no records of any Francis Eaton in America by 1626,
except for the Francis Eaton of the Mayflower.
The slow travel of news could easily be the cause for the delayed
information about the death of Francis Eaton's wife.
In response, David Greene requested Neil D. Thompson, FASG, to search the
parish registers of Bristol for information on the Francis Eaton in the
apprentice record, to see if he was the Mayflower passenger. The results
of the successful search were published in The American Genealogist,
72:301-309. The baptismal record of Francis Eaton of the Mayflower was
discovered in the parish of St. Thomas, Bristol, on 11 September 1596,
son of John Eaton. Two years earlier, the marriage of his parents were
discovered: John Eaton and
Dorothy Smith were married on 14 October 1594. Francis had other
siblings as well: John (bp. 26 July 1595), Jane (bp. 20 January 1598/9),
Samuel (bp. 8 November 1600), and Welthian (buried 20 March 1603/4).
Francis' brother John died within three days of his baptism; and Jane,
Samuel, and Welthian all died in March 1603/4 suggesting an illness wiped
out the young children. The only brother Francis would remember would be
Samuel--a significant find, since Francis Eaton of the Mayflower named
his first son Samuel. Another record shows that in the 1615 will of
Christopher Cary of Bristol, he gives to his eldest son "a garden ground,
with a lodge in the same, in the parish of St. Phillip's, now in the
occupation of Frances [sic] Eaton, house carpenter."
Francis Eaton was baptized in St. Thomas, Bristol, Gloucester, England in
1596, and came on the Mayflower at the age of 24, with his first wife
Sarah and their "sucking child" Samuel. Sarah died the first winter, and
Francis remarried to Dorothy (---), John Carver's maidservant. She died
about two years later, and Francis married Christiana Penn about 1625 in
Plymouth. Francis was a "house carpenter" by the age of 19, and is
called a "carpenter" in the 1626 Bristol apprenticeship record and in his
1633 estate inventory.
Francis died in 1633 in Plymouth, likely from a disease that was going
around that year and also claimed Mayflower passenger Peter Browne. The
inventory of Francis Eaton's estate included one cow and a calf, two
hogs, fifty bushels of corn, a black suit, a white hat and a black hat,
boots, saws, hammers, an adze, square, augers, a chisel, boards, fishing
lead, and some kitchen items.

Birth Notes: Child - Captain Benjamin Swett

Benjamin came with his father from England before 1642. He lived in Newbury, NH until after he bought a house and land in Hampton. In Aug 1676 he served in King Philip's War. In 1667 he was commissioned Captain and ordered to repair to Black Point (now Scarborough, ME). He was placed in charge of the expedition and the day after he landed at the Black Point garrison house (29 Jul 1677) he was in command of all the troops. He made an attack upon the Indians, but was defeated and had to order a hasty retreat. "Having received many wounds, he was at last surrounded and overpowered by the foe, and fell, not far from the garrison house, still fighting." On 9 Oct 1677 the administration of the estate was granted to the widow, Hester. His eldestson was to have the land, and the other 8 children received 30 pounds a piece as they came of age. In 1679, the inventory of his estate was filed.

"Ancient North Yarmouth and Yarmouth, Maine 1639-1936, A History", by William Hutchinson Rowe, on p.42, mentions a Nathaniel Wallis as one of several inhabitants of North Yarmouth who, in 1687-1688, was granted a land warrant by Sir Edmund Andros, Governor of Massachusetts. I have not yet ascertained how, or even if, Nathaniel was related to Josiah.

General Notes: Husband - Henry Sparks

Richard F. Sparks and Henry Sparks Jr. were whitnesses to the will of Henry Lisle in 1792. Henry was the surviving witness when the will was probated in 1807. I have assumed that this is the same Henry and, since he is refered to as Jr ., that his father was also Henry.

General Notes: Child - Rhoda Sparks

Rhoda's parents are listed here as Henry and Sarah following information which was probably given to Richard Sparks Wainwright by his uncle, Henry Edwin Tripler in 1929. On the other hand, a letter written by Chandler P. Wainwright on July 26, 1902 to a cousin states that Rhoda Sparks' father's name was James. He says that the name is often mentioned in Westcotts' "History of Philadelphia". The cousin's name may have been Mrs. Newkins; Chandler's writing is not clear.
