(I) Christopher Wadsworth, immigrant ancestor,
was born in England and came with
his brother William in the ship "Lion", landing
at Boston, Sunday, September 16, 1632,
after a voyage of twelve weeks. The old
Wadsworth Bible which he brought with him
is now owned by the Cowles family of Hartford,
Connecticut. He settled at Duxbury,
Massachusetts, where he became a prominent
citizen. He was the first constable of the
town, selectman and highway surveyor at
various times. He is mentioned first in the
town records in 1633, and in 1638 he drew
land in the Holly Swamp. The site of his
house is west of Captain's Hill, near the new
road to Kingston; his lands ran clear to the
bay on what was formerly known as Horton's
Hole. The homestead remained in the
family until 1855. His will was dated July
31, 1677, and was filed in September, 1678.
He married Grace Cole, whose will is dated
January 13, 1687. Children: Mary, married

From 'The Doane Family' by Alfred A. Doane, 1902: 'George Crisp was a resident of Eastham, that part called Pochey, now East Orleans, and was a constable there in 1650; a grand juror in 1672 and 1678. ... His will, dated 8 June 1682, names wife Hepzibah executrix, and directs that 'my Brother Israel Cole, and my friend and neighbor Goodman Daniell Done, be healpful to my wife as overseers'.' From 'Library of Cape Cod' #32 (FHL 1004003): 'George Crisp was in Eastham in 1650, acting in the capacity of a constable, but the precise year of his settlement is not known. Though a townsman, he was not of the class called Town-purchasers, and had no legal right to the common land. What his vocation was is now unknown. His townsmen, who had the disposal of the common land, were very liberal in their allowance to him. He was, it is supposed, a resident in that part of Eastham called by the Indians 'Poche', and now denominated East Orleans. In 1658, in that vicinity, near his house, he had a swamp and upland allowed him, near John Young's. Under date of 27 Apr 1659, he was allowed 17 acres of land near William Twinning, Jr.'s, in Poche, and also three acres of meadow on the south side of Boat Meadow, or as the Indians called it, Onoscotist. He was the fortunate possessor of a horse, and he is set down as having one as early as 30 May 1660. In 1662, he appears to have brought upon himself some trouble, by receiving for sale liquor illegally, which he claimed was received without knowledge of doing an unlawful act. He was favorably considered by the court. The report of some little disorder at his house in consequence of the sale, was investigated. Mr. Crisp was a grand juror in 1672 and 1678. He was twice married. His first wife, Mary, by whom he had no children, died 20 Feb 1676. ... He attempted to adopt a son of Richard Berry of Yarmouth in 1660, a lad some six years of age called Samuel. He became 'stubborn and rebelioous and went away against' Mr. Crisp's protest 'before his lawful time.' In consequence Mr. Crisp ordered the executor to pay him the small sum of 'twelve pence and no more'. ... The name of Crisp is extinct in Eastham, also in Barnstable County.'

Hall, former family genealogist (now deceased), found death of his first wife Mary, no children born to them, record of his second marriage and of his death in Vital Rec of Eastham, Barnstable, Mass, 'Mayflower Desc.' V. 3 pg 180. She found his christening in the parish register of St. Peter's, Sandwich, Kent, England, and carried the line back three more generations. She submitted these and had LDS proxy temple ordinances done for them. LDS proxy temple ordinances for George were on the FGRA sheet and are in the 1997 IGI from temple records. However, an earlier proxy baptism was found there, also from a temple record.

From 'The Doane Family' by A. A. Doane, 1902: 'Nothing is known of his first wife. The marriage is not recorded on Eastham records. She was doubtless the mother of all his children except the daughter Hepzibah. His second wife ... was many years his junior, and survived him. Mr. Doane went from Plymouth to Eastham with his father's family in 1645. He settled in that part of Eastham now known as East Orleans near where Mr. Joseph Taylor now resides (1902). He was a prominent man in the affairs of the town and church. He was a selectman each year from 1691 to 1696; a juryman in 1677 1678, 1687, 1689; a surveyor of highways in 1667,1673, 1699, 1700, 1704. He was a deacon of the First church for many years, probably succeeding his father Dea. John Doane. He was an extensive landholder, the Eastham records showing many grants to him, nearly all of which were within the limits of the present town of Orleans. One of his children, evidently the eldest, was accidentally drowned in a well at Eastham, and an investigating jury was impanelled 22 Sep 1667. Dea. Daniel Doane was buried in the old Town Cove burial ground where a small slatestone still legible (1902) marks his grave, and bears this inscription: 'Here lyes ye body of Deacon Daniel Doane Dec'd ye Dec'r ye 20th 1712 in the 76 year of his age'.' His will, probated 9 Oct 1712, gave 'that end of my dwelling house wherein we now live (viz: ye Eastern end) from the foundation to the roof ...' plus the eastern half of the lot on which it stood and gave the other part, that in which he was then living, plus the other half of the lot, to his son Nathaniel. It further provides for his daughter Ruth Mayo and her husband, Nathaniel, to support and provide for his daughter, Hepzibah, who ... 'by the Providence of the Allwise God is not endowed with such a competency of understanding as to be capable of supporting and providing for herself.' He gave lands lying in the town of Middleborough to his sons Joseph and Israel, lands in Pochey Flatts (now East Orleans) to his son Nathaniel, and to his son Daniel one pound in money. The rest of the estate to be divided among his seven children.

'The Great Migration...' account of Nicholas Snow family says his daughter Ruth was married to John Cole 10 Dec 1666 [PCR 8:57] LDS proxy baptism is in the 1997 IGI with birth date but no parents, relative Thomas Jefferson Patten, JR., the endowment was with birth abt 1644, Plymouth, no parents, relative Lorenzo Snow, the sealing to parents was to Daniel Cole and Ruth Collier Cole. All were from temple records. There were several entries with later ordinance dates. *There is a proxy sealing of marriage 16 Jan 1944 from temple film 537478, which is Los Angeles 1968. The 1998 LDS Ancestral File says it was SGEOR. There are many with later dates, the next earliest being 9 Feb 1972 LOGAN.

'The Great Migration...' says she was daughter of Nicholas Snow and Constant Hopkins. *The 1998 LDS Ancestral File has it thus and has her LDS proxy temple ordinances 20 Nov 1894, 11 Jan 1895, both SLAKE, sealing to parents 5 Jun 1946 ARIZO, sealing to spouse 26 Jan 1944 SGEOR. The baptism is in the 1997 IGI from temple record, birth 1644, Plymouth, no parents, relative Minnie Mabelle Snow. The endowment is in from temple record the same except relative Lorenzo Snow. It gives the baptism date with no temple. The sealing to parents is also there but there is an earlier one, 17 Jan 1900 SLAKE, from temple record.
