In 1820, he is seen residing in Mendon, Ontario County, New York, along with his older brother John. Younger brother, George Hanscom 3rd, (1797-1855) was living in nearby Henrietta, New York the same year. In 1822, Cyrus was living in Fulton, Oswego County, New York, but, by 1830, he was residing in Victor, Ontario County, New York. About 1839 or 1840, Cyrus left New York and moved to Ohio. He lived there for just a brief period before moving on to Shelby, Macomb County, Michigan, where his younger brother George had settled in 1822. Cyrus is seen in Shelby census records for both 1850 and 1860.

Note: Charles and Bestey fled from their impoverished existence in Calais to Oconto, WI, sometime after the 1850 census. By 1860, when they next appear on the census, the only child still living with them is 17-year-old Julia. In 1870, they have an adopted daughter, Hattie Spencer, age 6. Also living with them at that time are John and Katy Maynard and their son, Mindin. The relationship of the Maynards to the Hanscom family, if any, is unknown. They may have simply been boarders. Betsey was troubled enough by rheumatism in later years that it was noted in the 1880 census. At this time, it is not known when or where Charles and Betsey died, or what became of their children.

Source: Virginia Loop - Ruth Lewis said that David went to the Forest City Maine/Forest City, New Brunswick area in the mid-1860's to avoid fighting in the Civil War. He was one of the so called "skedaddlers" who lived in a place called Skedaddle Ridge which ran across the border. When authorities from the U. S. came, they would cross into Canada. After they left, they would come back across the border to Maine.
Frances (Hanscom) Cowing remembered David as a small man with long chin whiskers and not a tooth in his head. She said that he had a farm in Lakeville where he raised horses. Later on he went to Newport to live with son Fred. She said he died after he hit his head walking into the back of a stair casing.

Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Deming Jarves and his associates in 1818
marked the beginning of one of the most successful American glass
manufacturers of the 19th and 20th centuries. The company-now known
as Libbey Inc.-has operated continuously for 180 years.
! The Libbey story began when William L. Libbey joined the company as
sales manager in 1870. His son Edward Drummond Libbey joined him as a
clerk in 1874, and ten years later became his father's partner. By
mid-century the firm had reached its height and was said to be the
largest glass plant in the world. In 1892 the name was changed to The
Libbey Glass Company.

Source: Virginia Loop - According to the History of Gorham, by Hugh McLellan (p. 159), a list of soldiers in the the War of 1812, under the command of Capt. Robert McLellan, included the name Lewis Hanscom.
Lewis was born in Gorham but moved to Harrison, Maine, as a young man. In 1816, he married Rebecca Johnson of Harrison. The six children of Lewis and Rebecca were all born in Harrison, Maine, between 1817 and 1832. Then in 1835 the whole family moved north to Springfield, Penobscot County, Maine. Land records of Washington County, Maine, show that Lewis was living in Baileyville in 1863 when he purchased two parcel of land there: a 25 acre parcel located between the Houlton and Ryan roads, and a 56 1/2 acre parcel known as lot No. 5. He was shown as "of Baileyville" when he sold the former parcel in September 1864 but "of Springfield" when he sold the latter parcel in July 1865.
Maine separated from Massachusetts on March 15, 1820 and was admitted to the Union. (VDL)

According to the Centennial History of Harrison, Maine (p. 122), "*** in 1835, we find a case where one Samuel Willey agrees and promises comfortably to support, maintain, and provide for Abigail and Patience Hanscome, daughters of Mr. George Hanscome, late of Harrison, deceased, he to provide all necessary meat, drink, lodging, and apparel, and to defray all necessary expenses for their support in sickness and in health during their natural lives, pledging himself, his heirs, executors, or administrators to well and truly perform the conditions aforesaid, and mortgaging his farm to the town as security for the performance of the contract."
The Centennial History of Harrison notes that arrangements such as the forgoing was influenced by the town's desire to conduct business in such a way as to cost the town as little as possible. Although they virtually sold the services of those unfortunate people at auction the same as slaves were formerly sold, yet it was in accordance with the usages of the times.
According to Robert Hanscom (Editor, Hanscom Family Newsletter), Abigail never married and eventually went to live with her brother Lewis in Springfield, Maine. Abigail is shown in Lewis' household in the 1850 census but by 1860 Lewis was living alone.

Note: John and Susannah moved first to Unity, Maine where he remained until about 1817. In 1820, he is seen residing in Mendon, Ontario County, New York (along with his brother Cyrus) before eventually moving on to what is now Akron, Ohio. Note: Cyrus first settled in Harrison, Maine where he began his lifelong occupation as a blacksmith. In 1820, he is seen residing in Mendon, Ontario County, New York, along with his older brother John. Younger brother, George Hanscom 3rd, (1797-1855) was living in nearby Henrietta, New York the same year. In 1822, Cyrus was living in Fulton, Oswego County, New York, but, by 1830, he was residing in Victor, Ontario County, New York. About 1839 or 1840, Cyrus left New York and moved to Ohio. He lived there for just a brief period before moving on to Shelby, Macomb County, Michigan, where his younger brother George had settled in 1822. Cyrus is seen in Shelby census records for both 1850 and 1860.

Source: LFA - "From Kittery he moved to Scarborough, and settled on a farm on
Scottow's Hill. his house was a garrison, and stood about two rods
southeast of the late residence of Leonard Libby.... There it was that
Nathaniel Dresser was killed by the Indians. David Libby shot the Indian
that did the deed, and wounded him so severely that he died soon after."
Both David & Esther were likely buried there, along with other Local inhabitants. Covered by dense growth, not more than 3-4 graves are now discernible.

General Notes: Child - David Libby
!David Libby early adopted the following of the sea, and became captain
of a coaster. During the French War he was engaged in transporting
supplies to the garrison at Black Point. He bought a lot at Blue Point and
built him a house there. He sold this property in December, 1762 and was
one of the company who formed the first settlements at Machias, in
1763. He did not stay there long. In June 1768, he sold his seven-acre
home lot to Samuel Libby, and soon after removed to Providence, R.I.,
where he resided during the Revolution, and some years after. In his old
age he and his wife returned to Maine. She died near the home of her
childhood. After her death, her husband led an unsettled, homeless life,
stopping here and there in the neighborhood of Scarborough,Me. The time
and place of his death are unknown.
