LINCOLN- Nancy L. Mathewson, 58, wife of Ron Mathewson, died November 4, 2003 at a Lincoln hospital. She was born November 1, 1945, the daughter of Everett and Warnita (Murdough) McLeod. Nancy was a member of the Mattawamkeag Church of God and worked at Shop N Save for 22 years.
In addition to her husband, Ron and her mother, Warnita, she is survived by two sons, Linwood Libby and his wife Alison of CT., and Brian Libby and his wife, Melissa of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Brianne, Emily, Adam, Paige and Brandon, all of Lincoln; two stepsons, Guy Mathewson and his wife B.J., and their children, Isaac and Leah all of Virginia and Ty Mathewson and his wife Melissa and their child Dylan; four brothers, Richard Putnam of Manchester, N.H., Buster Putnam and his wife Patty of Medway, Doug McLeod and his wife Jeanne of East Winn and Albert McLeod and his wife Sherry of Wesley; five sisters, Naida Brown and her husband Norm of Mattawamkeag, Sharon Powers and her husband Robert of East Millinocket, Cheryl Smith and her husband Gerry of Burlington, Mary McLeod of Winn and Lycia Savage and her husband Victor of Enfield; several nieces and nephews.

The following sketch of Manly Gray was provided by his son, Ellsworth Gray, to Stephen Robbins about 1980. While some of the sketch is directly quoted, other parts have been paraphrased.
Manly's family moved from Wesley, Maine to East Machias, Maine in 1872.
"Father married Gertrude Hanscom about 1890. My older brother, Andrew H., was born while they were still in Jacksonville, but my sister, Virginia P., was born one year later when they lived in Chases Mills, which along with Jacksonville was another section of E. Machias. In 1895 I was born in E. Machias, in a house father bought from Josiah Ackley in 1898. Grandfather William passed away in 1922. Manly Gray, my father, was born I believe while William and Elzina were still living in Crawford. As a young man he was in Jacksonville, where his livelihood was earned in partnership with Frank Gray, butchering, peddling, lumbering, saw-milling and lastly, through my growing-up and education years, in the store keeping business."
Manly and his brother Frank married the Hanscom sisters, Gertrude and Amelia. The two brothers operated Gray Brothers General Store in the center of town, until it burned in a fire that destroyed most of the business district circ

Henry King was captain of militia, many timesrepresentative to the general court, delegate to the provincial congress, and was a descendant of William King, who at the age of 28 came with his wife, Dorothy, and two children, to America in the ship Abigail, from Stepney Parish, London, Eng., 1635, had a grant of land in 1637 in Salem, where three of his five children were born, finally settled in Sutton, a farmer. His son John, b. in Salem Nov. 1, 1638; m. Sept. --, 1660, Elizabeth Goldthwaite and had eight children. His second son, William, b. June --, 169, m. Hannah Cook, settled in Sutton1717, and was one of the most prominent and wealthy of the first settlers, hadten children.

EAST MILLINOCKET -- Rene E. Pelkey, 53, died on Sunday, May 30, 2004. He was born in East Millinocket, the son of Leo T. and Laura E. (Dempsey) Pelkey.
Rene served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers: Oakley and Eugene.
He is survived by his beloved fiance, Sandra Linehan of East Millinocket; a son, Edward Pelkey and wife, Trisha, of Arkansas; a daughter, Laurie L. Pelkey of New Hampshire; nine siblings: Roberty Pelkey, Priscilla Lyons, Marianne McLaughlin, and Ronald Pelkey, all of Medway, Roger Pelkey and Janice Currie, both of East Millinocket, Kathy Hardy of North Amity, Sharon Smyth of Medway, and Ellen McLaughlin of Woodville; his stepchildren: Paul, Allison, and Kevin Linehan; and a special granddaughter, Paige; as well as several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in East Millinocket. Burial will follow in East Millinocket Cemetery.
Arrangements are by R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home in East Millinocket.
