1 M Dr. John Taylor
Born: 1763 - Vermont Baptized: Died: July 3, 1839 - West Groton, NY Buried: - West Groton, NYSpouse: Jerusha Ballard Marr: 1796
General Notes: Child - Dr. John Taylor
In Andrew Adams' "History of the Town of Fair Haven, Vermont", a man named John Taylor, from New York, buys a store in 1798. He then sells it in 1804, to John Meacham. The dates that John Taylor sells the store roughly coincides with Dr. John Taylor's move to Dryden, NY.
In Fair Haven at this time (1798-1804) are Joseph Ballard, his daughters Drusilla, Anna and Elizabeth and their husbands. John Meacham and Joseph Ballard have come from New Salem, MA, together some years earlier and live on adjacent properties.
Stephen Holt, husband of Drusilla Ballard, will live in Dryden, NY, in 1810, the same time as John and Jerusha (Ballard) Taylor. Also, John Morrow Ballard, a son of Joseph, lives there.
There is a John M. Ballard (and Jeremiah) mentioned in Dr. Taylor's journals (see below). This is in Jennings County, IN, where John Murray Ballard, son of Joseph Ballard, settles. (I don't think it's too big a stretch to assume they're the same person.)
In the history of Fair Haven it says that Jeremiah Ballard, a methodist preacher, is a brother of John M. Ballard.
In "The Centennial History of the Town of Dryden, New York, 1797-1897" by Goodrich, it says that on 5-18-1812, John Taylor is one of four Dryden citizens to give up 1 acre, each a corner of their properties, to make a town square in the center of the village. All the space is eventually reappropriated by the owners except for that left for church grounds. It also says the "Taylorites" flourished here, and that some from the group eventually joined the Shakers. In 1816, there were three (3) physicians in the Village of Dryden - John Taylor was one of them.
In "First Presbyterian Church of Dryden 1808-1908; Church Centennial Committee," Jerusha Taylor is listed as one of the original members of the church on 2-17-1808. However, she is expelled from the church, along with Juliana Terpening, wife of the deacon, and joins the Taylorites, whom the publication calls "a set of religious fanatics."
(Courtesy of Bill Phillips' research)
In the 1810 Census, John Taylor is counted with 2 age 26-44, 2 age 1-9, and 4 age 10-15.
In the 1820 Census, an Abraham Taylor, age 26-44, is living with 7 children, his wife and one older woman.
In the mid-1790's, Dryden was in the County of Montgomery. In 1799, Cayuga County was split off Montgomery, and in 1817 a final split creating the Tompkins County we know today.
Revolutionary War Bounty Land in Military Tract: 600 acre Lots were drawn in the mid 1790's and generally settled in the 1800's in the Town(ship) of Dryden. A Benoni Ballard settled on Lot 53, John Taylor on Lot 62, kitty-corner to each other, 53 being NE of 62. Lot 53 was next to (and has today within it) the old Robertson Cemetery on Baker Hill Road, just off Bridle Road, or the first road cut through the area in the mid-1790's, running east and west. We can assume children of both of these families attended the little rural schoolhouse #24 called Baker HIll or Turkey Hill schoolhouse.
Dr. John Taylor kept a diary / journal, which is in possession of William J. Montgomery RIN 1, while traveling and preaching as an itinerant minister and doctor. John's journey was with a Samuel Ross. The Journal was written between 24 October 1818 and 7 March 1819, during their travels through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and their return trip.
At some time in the early 1900's, J. Ivor Montgomery provided a paraphrased, summarized memoranda of the Journal. J. Ivor was the husband of Mary Lett Montgomery who was a G-Granddaughter of John Taylor.
In the 1980's, the Journal was entirely transcribed, in longhand, by Barbara Montgomery, widow of James Robert Montgomery, a grandson of Mrs. Mary Lett Montgomery. Barbara is William J. Montgomery's mother.
In 2006, the Journal was committed to digital text, on computer, enabling all descendants who desire a copy of the Journal to have a copy in this format or in printed text.
John Taylor died July 3, 1839 and is buried in Stearns Cemetery, also known as: Allen-Stearns Cemetery, Old West Groton Cemetery and Free Cemetery. Located on Cobb Street, West Groton, NY, Approximately 1/2 mile south of the intersection of West Groton Road and Cobb Street. The cemetery is set back about 600 feet from the road in the woods and is on private property. Town(ship) of Groton, Tompkins County, NY. Latitude: 42.598, Longitude: -76.448.

Some Civil War Soldiers of Northwestern Maine...
Joshua L. Witham, aka Charles H. Smith. As Joshua L. Witham, a 31 year old resident of Dexter, Maine, he enlisted in Company G, 6th Maine Infantry, on February 2, 1862 - the record indicates he transferred to Company E, 7th Maine Infantry, on November 5, 1863; transferred to the 1st Veteran Maine Regiment on August 21, 1864; and was dropped as a deserter on January 27, 1865. However, as Charles H. Smith, a 34 year-old farmer from Wells, Maine, he enlisted in Company I, 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry, and was mustered in on February 10, 1863. His pension application in 1890 lists both names and service in the 2nd Massachuseets Cavalry and the 6th Maine. He died in November 1890, and is buried in the Madrid Village Cemetery with his wife Charlotte (1832-1910).
General Notes: Child - William James Witham
The Withams moved to Green Co., Wisconsin in 1856, then to Phillips Co., Kansas in 1874. They had seven children.
William James Witham was a Civil War veteran, farmer, postmaster and jeweler. He, wife Lovina and oldest son Moses moved from Franklin Co., Maine to Wisconsin in the 1850's, living there during the Civil War. But then the children numbered four, and William traveled from Wisconsin to Kansas in 1873 and homesteaded five milesbnorth of Agra. The first home was a dugout on the bank of West Cedar Creek. William returned to Monroe, Wisconsin in the spring of 1874 to move his wife and children. He and a man named Dan Beedy drove cattle and sheep 800 miles, taking most of the summer. Joe Beedy, father of John and Dan Beedy, was postmaster of the West Cedar Post Office, and when he died in 1885, William J. Witham took over the post office for two years.

EAST MILLINOCKET \endash Jean V. Osgood, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at a Millinocket health care facility. She was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Millinocket, daughter of J. Harold and Grace M. (Taylor) Whitehead.
Jean grew up in Millinocket and was raised by her grandmother, Sarah Taylor, from the age of 3. She was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1948. Jean worked at Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, for six years as confidential secretary to the mill manager. During this time she became married to Dwight M. Osgood Jr. She took time off from her career to help raise their family, and returned to the workforce in 1967 after Dwight suffered a heart attack. Jean worked as a secretary in the guidance office at Schenck High School, East Millinocket, for 23 years. She had an open door policy to all students, which made it a popular place to hang out in their free time. Jean and her family did a lot of traveling around and camping whenever they could. After her husband died, she continued the camping tradition but made it a permanent summer spot in southern Maine for several years. She was completely devoted to her grandchildren and made them her focus in later years. Jean was active in Beta Semper Phi sorority for several years, and also served as secretary to the board of directors for East Millinocket Board of Public Housing.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Allen Leclerc; six grandchildren, Daniel Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Olivia Lewis, Sarah Rideout, Andrew Rideout and Timothy Rideout; two great-grandchildren, Kylie-Jo and Jace Lewis; two sisters, Rhoda Bouchard and Deanna Perrow; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and grandmother, Jean was predeceased by her husband; daughter, Laurie J. Osgood; grandson, Dwight Rideout; and two brothers, James and Ronald Whitehead.

I exchange data with people who have a interlocking marriage
into any surnames that interlocks into any of the branches
of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.
I am sharing my data in the interest of collaborative research.
I do this to help people to find there lineages and to fill
the pedigree charts.
I have not personally researched all families listed; dates
and information are subject to verification. Not responsible
for typographical errors misplaced citations. Missing
sources/references are because of my learning curve, not my
intention. You are encouraged to seek further documention
for your own confirmation.Further I have no control what
other people include about their families in any of the
data that they exchange.
If there are no dates about the living, then the computers
can not determine if the person is alive or deceased.
The sites set the living anywhere from 75 to 100 years
depending on the laws of the countries that they are in.
When I exchange with lineages the living are sometime shown
depending on who you are exchanging with, but my
request is that,if you update any of my data to the
internet, you also set the do not show the living, before
you update to the internet.
Also place in the source your contact email
address, and the lineage, so people can contact you
reqarding your update.
I have no claim to owning the data, except that which is
my immediate lineage, and even that is worked on by many
members of my family lineages. It is only as good as what
people put into it,that exchange with me. So look
in the notes of the genealogy for origin, if they put it
there,or the source.
If you are going to correct, update or put new branches on the
lineage your are inquirying about, please do not add from what
I have sent you,(This just duplicates how many more people
I have to find in the duplicates and merge them, edit your
notes to ensure that there is nothing there that you do not
want published.
Also do not submit information on copyrights that invades the
privacy of others especially for a relative that has not given
you permission to publish same.
Remember nothing is carved in stone except time.
The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriages, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 631,749 people via interlocking
marriages.
My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.

Coel Hen, King of Northern Britain
(c.350-c.420)
(Welsh: Coel; Latin: Coelius; English: Cole)
Coel Hen or Coel the Old is known to most of us through the famous nur
sery rhyme:
Old King Cole was a merryold soul
And a merry old soul was he.
He called for his pipe,
And he calledfor his bowl,
And he called for his fiddlers, three.
He is also a familiar figure in ancient Welsh genealogies, for mo
st of the Celtic British monarchiesclaimed descent from him in one fo
rm or another. He appears to have lived around the turn from the 4th to t
he 5th century, the time when the Roman officials returned to Italy, leavi
ng Britain and her people to fend for themselves.Coel's particular associ
ation with the north of Britain has led to the suggestion that he may actu
ally have been the last of the Roman Duces Brittanniarum with his headquar
ters at York. He certainly imposed his power over a great swathe of the co
untry, and can be considered the first King in Northern Britain. (This Co
el should not be confused with the legendary Coel Godhebog "the Magnificen
t", Lord of Colchester, whose daughter, St. Helen, supposedly married t
he Emperor Constantius Chlorus two centuries earlier.)
There is an old story told in the north about Coel's last campaign. Wh
at is now Scotland was originally inhabited by the Pictish race. It was du
ring Coel's time that immigrant Irishmen from the Scotti tribe began to se
ttle the Western coast around Argyle. Coel, fearing that the two peoples w
ould unite against the British, sent raiding parties across his northern b
order to stir up discord between them. The plan, however, backfired for t
he Picts and the Scots were not taken in.Coel merely succeeded in pushi
ng the two even closer together, and they began to attack the British King
dom of Strathclyde. Coel declared all out war andmoved north to expel t
he invaders. The Picts and Scots fled to the hills ahead of Coel's army, w
ho eventually set up camp at what became Coylton alongside the Water of Co
yle (Ayrshire). For a long time, the British were triumphant, while the Sc
ots and Picts starved. Desperate for some relief, however, the enemy advan
ced an all-or-nothing attack on Coel's stronghold. Coel and his men were t
aken by surprise, overrun and scattered to the winds. It is said thatCo
el wandered the unknown countryside until he eventually got caught in a b
og at Coilsfield (in Tarbolton, Ayrshire) and drowned. Coel was first buri
edin a mound there before being removed to the church at Coylton. The ye
ar wasabout AD 420. After his death, Coel's Northern Kingdom was divid
ed between two of his sons, Ceneu and Gorbanian.

CELTIC BRITAIN
THE KINGS OF NORTHERN BRITAIN*
Map of Britain
*Sometimes known as the Kingdom of Kyle.
COEL HEN is a familiar figure in many ancient Welsh genealogies. Mo
st of the Celtic British kings of the north of Britain could trace their d
escent from him in one form or another, as could many Welsh kings. In t
he short time after his life that Central and Northern Britain remained fr
ee of the invading Angles, between the start of the fifth century and mid-
sixth century, all of the kingdoms that wereestablished were by his so
ns or grandsons. Although the evidence is typically patchy, he appea
rs to have lived from around 350 - 420, during the time when the last Rom
an officials returned to the heart of the faltering empire, leaving Brita
