In Andrew Adams "History of the town of Fair Haven, Vermont" a man named John Taylor, from New York, buys a store in 1798. He then sells it in 1804, to John Meacham.
In Fair Haven at this time are Joseph Ballard, his daughters Drusilla, Anna and Elizabeth and their husbands.
John Meacham and Joseph Ballard have come from New Salem MA together some years earlier, and live on adjacent properties.
Stephen Holt, husband of Drusilla Ballard, will live in Dryden NY in 1810, the same time as John and Jerusha (Ballard) Taylor.
Also, John Morrow Ballard, a son of Joseph, lives there.
I know that there is a John M Ballard (and Jeremiah, right?) mentioned in Dr. Taylor's journals. This is in Jennings Co., where John Murray Ballard, son of Joseph Ballard, settles. I don't think it's too big a stretch to assume they're the same person.
In this same history of Fair Haven, it says that Jeremiah, a methodist preacher, is a brother of John M. Ballard.
The dates that John Taylor sells the store roughly coincides with Dr. John Taylor's move to Dryden, NY.
Jeremiah was married to Eliza Barnes by Seth Gard, J.P., Illinois Territory, 2 August 1815.

Jeremiah sold the old family place at Andover in 1735, to his brother-in-law Joseph Gibson and moved to Lunenburg, then to Lancaster, then to Concord, where he was living in 1743.
At the outbreak of the war with France in 1744, he entered military service, serving first as sergeant and then as Captain. In 1745 he was in command of a company engaged in protecting the frontiers of Maine, and his manuscript orders signed by Governor Shirley are still in existence. In 1749, he moved west to New Salem, VT, Franklin County, at the foot of the Berkshires.
He became one of the most prominent settlers of that town. In 1738, he was a Captain in Colonel Joseph William's Regiment. In 1750, Jeremiah Ballard and Jeremiah Meacham were granted a license to erect a sawmill upon the land belonging to them. This mill was built in the east part of the Township, upon the middle branch of Swift River, near the locality called Buffalo.
Many papers relating to his activities are on file. Jeremiah had six children: Mary, Phebe, Jeremiah, Daniel, Joshua and Joseph. He died in New Salem in 1761. His resting-place is not marked, but the location is believed to be on the site now occupied by the old school.
By Fay Hunting Bennett
General Notes: Child - Joseph Ballard
Moved with his father (probably) to New Salem, VT, in 1750.
Joseph Ballard leaves New Salem, VT, for "West Hoosac", soon to be re-named Williamstown, MA.
Around 1780, he moves to Fair Haven, VT. John Meacham and Joseph Ballard live in Fair Haven on adjacent properties.
In Andrew Adams "History of the Town of Fair Haven, Vermont" a man named John Taylor, from New York, buys a store in 1798. He then sells it in 1804, to John Meacham. The dates that John Taylor sells the store roughly coincides with Dr. John Taylor's move to Dryden, NY.

In the history of Fair Haven it says that Jeremiah Ballard, a methodist preacher, is a brother of John M. Ballard.
In "The Centennial History of the Town of Dryden, New York, 1797-1897" by Goodrich, it says that on 5-18-1812, John Taylor is one of four Dryden citizens to give up 1 acre, each a corner of their properties, to make a town square in the center of the village. All the space is eventually reappropriated by the owners except for that left for church grounds. It also says the "Taylorites" flourished here, and that some from the group eventually joined the Shakers. In 1816, there were three (3) physicians in the Village of Dryden - John Taylor was one of them.
In "First Presbyterian Church of Dryden 1808-1908; Church Centennial Committee," Jerusha Taylor is listed as one of the original members of the church on 2-17-1808. However, she is expelled from the church, along with Juliana Terpening, wife of the deacon, and joins the Taylorites, whom the publication calls "a set of religious fanatics."
(Courtesy of Bill Phillips' research)
In the 1810 Census, John Taylor is counted with 2 age 26-44, 2 age 1-9, and 4 age 10-15.
In the 1820 Census, an Abraham Taylor, age 26-44, is living with 7 children, his wife and one older woman.
In the mid-1790's, Dryden was in the County of Montgomery. In 1799, Cayuga County was split off Montgomery, and in 1817 a final split creating the Tompkins County we know today.
Revolutionary War Bounty Land in Military Tract: 600 acre Lots were drawn in the mid 1790's and generally settled in the 1800's in the Town(ship) of Dryden. A Benoni Ballard settled on Lot 53, John Taylor on Lot 62, kitty-corner to each other, 53 being NE of 62. Lot 53 was next to (and has today within it) the old Robertson Cemetery on Baker Hill Road, just off Bridle Road, or the first road cut through the area in the mid-1790's, running east and west. We can assume children of both of these families attended the little rural schoolhouse #24 called Baker HIll or Turkey Hill schoolhouse.
Dr. John Taylor kept a diary / journal, which is in possession of William J. Montgomery RIN 1, while traveling and preaching as an itinerant minister and doctor. General Notes: Wife - Jerusha Ballard
In "First Presbyterian Church of Dryden 1808-1908; Church Centennial Committee," Jerusha Taylor is listed as one of the original members of the church, in 2-17-1808.
However, she is expelled from the church, along with Juliana Terpening, wife of the deacon, and joins the Taylorites, whom the publication calls "a set of religious fanatics."
That may be a little harsh! Not to mention the raw feelings in the Terpening household after the deacon expels his own wife from church.

In Fair Haven at this time are Joseph Ballard, his daughters Drusilla, Anna and Elizabeth and their husbands.
Stephen Holt, and wife Drusilla Ballard will live in Dryden, NY in 1810, the same time as John and Jerusha (Ballard) Taylor. Also, John Morrow Ballard, a son of Joseph, lives in Dryden, NY.
There is a John M Ballard (and Jeremiah) mentioned in Dr. Taylor's journals. This is in Jennings Co., IN, where John Murray Ballard, son of Joseph Ballard, settles. It's not too big a stretch to assume they're the same person.
In the above history of Fair Haven, it says that Jeremiah, a methodist preacher, is a brother of John M. Ballard.

John M. Ballard: b. 1764 in East Hoosuck (now North Adams) MA, married about 1790 in VT, 1st child born in VT, family not found in the 1800 census, perhaps lived from 1806-1810 in PA, and by 1812 John M. Ballard is FOUND in a record for Cincinnati which states “Ephraim Brown reports that Peter Keen and John M. Ballard have appraised a horse that was found.”
A daughter was married in Cincinnati in 1814.
Land purchased by John M. Ballard in 1815 in Hamilton Co., OH and then sold in 1817.
By 1820 the family is in Jennings Co., IN (in the census).
Jeremiah and John M. were NOT in the same religious circles, I don’t think, but then there is that odd record above that links Ephraim Brown and Peter Keen to John M. Ballard.

Alias:<ALIA> /"Curtmantle"/
Henry II (5 March 1133 – 6 July 1189) ruled as Count of Anjou, Duke of Nor
mandy, and as King of England (1154–1189) and, at various times, controll
ed parts of Wales, Scotland, eastern Ireland, and western France. His sobr
iquets include "Curt Mantle" (because of the practical short cloaks he wor
e), "Fitz Empress," and sometimes "The Lion of Justice," whichhad also ap
plied to his grandfather Henry I. He ranks as the first of the Plantagen
et or Angevin Kings.
Following the disputed reign of King Stephen, Henry's reign saw efficie
nt consolidation. Henry II has acquired a reputation as one of England's g
reatest medieval kings.
He was born on 5 March , 1133, at Le Mans to the Empress Matilda and her s
econd husband, Geoffrey the Fair, Count of Anjou. Brought up in Anjo
u, he visited England in 1149 to help his mother in her disputed cla
im to the English throne.
Prior to coming to the throne he already controlled Normandy and Anj
ou on the continent; his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine on May 18, 11
52 added her holdings to his, including Touraine, Aquitaine, and Gascon
y. He thus effectively became more powerful than the king of France — wi
th an empire (the Angevin Empire) that stretched from the Solway Firth alm
ost to the Mediterranean and from the Somme to the Pyrenees. As king, he w
ould make Ireland a part of his vast domain. He also maintained lively com
munication with the Emperor of Byzantium Manuel I Comnenus.
In August 1152, Henry, previously occupied in fighting Eleanor's ex-husba
nd Louis VII of France and his allies, rushed back to her, and they spe
nt severalmonths together. Around the end of November 1152 they parted: H
enry went to spend some weeks with his mother and then sailed for Englan
d, arriving on 6 January 1153. Some historians believe that the couple's f
irst child, William, Count of Poitiers, was born in 1153.
During Stephen's reign the barons had subverted the state of affairs to un
dermine the monarch's grip on the realm; Henry II saw it as his first ta
sk to reverse this shift in power. For example, Henry had castles which t
he barons had built without authorisation during Stephen's reign torn dow
n, and scutage, a fee paid by vassals in lieu of militaryservice, beca
me by 1159 a central feature of the king's military system. Record keepi
ng improved dramatically in order to streamline this taxation.
Henry II established courts in various parts of England, and first institu
ted theroyal practice of granting magistrates the power to render legal d
ecisions on a wide range of civil matters in the name of the Crown. His re
ign saw the production of the first written legal textbook, providing t
he basis of today's"Common Law".
By the Assize of Clarendon (1166), trial by jury became the norm. Since t
he Norman Conquest jury trials had been largely replaced by trial by orde
al and "wager of battel" (which English law did not abolish until 1819). P
rovision of justice and landed security was further toughened in 1176 wi
th the Assize of Northampton, a build on the earlier agreements at Clarend
on.This reform proved one of Henry's major contributions to the social hi
story of England. As a consequence of the improvements in the legal syste
m, the power of church courts waned. The church, not unnaturally, oppos
ed this and found its most vehement spokesman in Thomas Becket, the Archbi
shop of Canterbury, formerly a close friend of Henry's and his Chancello
r. Henry had appointed Becket to the archbishopric precisely because he wa
nted to avoid conflict.
The conflict with Becket effectively began with a dispute over whether t
he secular courts could try clergy who had committed a secular offence. He
nry attempted to subdue Becket and his fellow churchmen by making them swe
ar to obey the "customs of the realm", but controversy ensued over what co
nstituted these customs, and the church proved reluctant to submit

General Notes: Husband - Charles Pine
The following information was taken from a book entitled "Finding Your Forefathers in America" by Archibald F. Bennett. It states: "Charles Pine was a famous hunter and Indian fighter of Scarborough, and was described as "a reckless, daring young fellow....Here, in 1703, the little company, numbering only eight persons, were besieged by five hundred Indians....The deadly accuracy of the settlers' guns kept the savages at bay....For Pine and Hunnewell the Indians entertained a superstitious terror....In 1752 he made his will, describing himself as 'aged and infirm'....
"Pine's wife's name was Grace.... He had five children, Charles, George, Isaac, Mary and Grace. What became of Charles is not known. The report has been handed down that he went to England to claim a large inheritance there which his father had refused to accept, and never returned....Grace married John Reynolds, or Runnels, and had by him eight children. From her have descended the Scarborough Carters....His daughters, Sarah, who married Benjamin Carter, and Grace, who married Daniel Moulton, received the greater part of their grandfather's lands.
On 2 June 1734 Grace, wife of Charles Pine was added to full Communion in the First Church of Scarborough. On Oct. 25, 1741 Mary, Wife of William Dearing was a communicant. Following her name is this notation: "(Murdered by her husband 15 Feb. 1749. She was the daughter of Grace Pine admitted June 1734.)" Isaac Pine, son of Charles and Grace, was drowned 6 Feb. 1721-2.
==================
The children of William and Mary Deering were probably raised by their grandparents, Charles and Grace Pine. Charles Pine mentions them in his will in 1752:
Item: I give unto Isaac Dearing my Grandson Fifty Acres of Land which was laid out to me by Virtue of a Grant of One Hundred Acres given to one Thomas Harris the Said Fifty Acres being laid out anew in Scarboro aforesd in the Year 1735, and is Scituate in Said Township and bounded as per the Proprietors Records in Said Town will fully appear. Item: I give unto the other Children of my Daughter Mary Dearing Deed the Sum of five shillings each to be paid at my Wife's Decease as aforesd.
