!At age seven, Ezra moved with his family from Jay, Maine to Mercer
County, Illinois, arriving in 1843. In 1865 he moved to Minnesota and in
1879 to Montrose, McCook County, South Dakota. After Martha died, he
married Mrs. Emma Stainsby. He was a merchant in Montrose for many
years as a partner in the firms Hamilton and Fuller (with J.T. Hamilton,
founder of the Montrose Bank) and later Heyl & Fuller. He later served as
post master, then as night watchman, patroling the streets of the town.
After retiring because of poor health, he spent several winters with his
daughter Minnie Coons, in Stafford County, Kansas and summers back in
Montrose with his granddaughter Mrs. Lon Wheeler. He was a member of
the Presbyterian church and the Masonic Fraternity.
